Chapter 12
Draco and I stood there for a while until the tears stopped flowing from his eyes. With a sniffle he pulled away from me and picked up the apple from the floor. He tossed it in the trashcan next to the stove and wiped his hand on his pants. Reaching into the cupboard he got out two gold mugs and made some tea from the water I had on the stove.
I sat down at the table and observed his bare back before he turned around with the mugs.
“Gold,” I question jokingly. I reached out for the mug and wrapped my fingers around the warm surface, my fingers lingering over Draco’s before he let go. The first sip was like fire flaring in my soul.
“I’ve never got how you can drink it without sugar,” Draco looked at me with his nose scrunched in disgust. He proceeded to drop about five sugar cubes into his own cup.
“I like the bitter freshness instead of a sugary syrup that coats my teeth. I didn’t realize that you had noticed my tea habits,” I sneer jokingly at him.
“Well notice a lot of things you wouldn’t think that I notice.”
I was startled by his words and looked up at his red face. Apparently crying on my shoulder has opened him up to being more vulnerable around me this morning. I wonder how long this will last and decide to see if I can push further.
“What does that mean Draco,” I purr softly at him.
“Nothing, Granger, forget it,” his face still red. “Oh, scones! I love scones.”
He snagged a steamy scone from the basket and placed it on his plate. Rooting around in the basket he found a knife and some honey that he spread on the halves that he created before smashing them back together like a sandwich with honey filling. Crumbs scattered all over the top of the table. Some stuck to his bare chest.
“Wow,” I chuckled. “Leave some honey for me too.” I pile food from the basket and start digging in before the food cools off. We make small talk as we continue our meal, pausing for Draco to get refills on our tea. When we finished, I started to pack up the basket while Draco relaxed back into his chair.
“You have some honey on your face,” he suddenly leans forward and strokes his thumb over my chin. I jerk back and watch as he lifts his thumb to his lips. I’m entranced as his tongue swirls over the tip of his finger to lick the honey off slowly.
The room suddenly got very hot. I suddenly got hot. I stumbled back a little and clutched at my chest where a tight feeling started.
“I’m going to get ready for class,” I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion at what I’m feeling. “I’ll see you later Draco.”
I dart into the bathroom and shut the door quickly. His face while he licked the honey off his finger flicked through my mind again. As did the feeling of holding him while he was shirtless. I felt myself get even hotter. I looked into the mirror and saw that my face was flushed. I yanked the faucet on to cold and splashed cold water over my cheeks, trying to rid them of the ruddy color that stained them.
I was confused. I was hot. I was bothered. I was… troubled. The last time I felt like this was when I had kissed Ron for the first time. I shook my head. I’m was only kidding myself. It was a lack of sleep and high emotions after our discussion. I sighed and got undressed for my bath. I’d just ignore it for now.
