Narcissa remembers
Narcissa had been in her study and examined some paper all day long. She didn’t want to see the rest of the death eaters right now. They were so different from those people she used to know.
They had been brilliant but also kind students. People never through they was going down a dark path in life. They are now only shell of what they once was. Those who didn’t get insane in Azkaban got insane from public hate.
It was almost dinner time when someone knocked on her door. She smiled a little knowing only one person knock that way. She said:”come in “.
She watched Draco coming in and closing the door behind himself. He took a deep breath before saying in a political voice: “ mother something has happened and I wonder if we can talk about it “.
“Of course Draco what has happened?
Nothing in this world could prepare here for this moment. Draco carefully rolled up his sleeve and reveled the awful tattoo on his forearm. Everything was silent. She couldn’t think. She didn’t know if she cried. She didn’t know if Draco said something. She could only think of one thing right now.

Beginning of flashback
“ Cissa can we talk “?
“Yes of course Regulus ".
Regulus stood in front of her and looked a bit uncomfortable. He looked stressed and tired.
“ I don’t know how to say this so I will just show you “
He rolled quickly up his sleeve. Narcissa gasped when she saw it. The dark mark. The same one Lucius got after graduation. She felt tears rolling down her eyes and she screamed: “NO NOT YOU TOO!”
“Cissa just promise me something” Regulus said in a calmed voice. “Promise me that no more young people are going to get the dark mark. Promise me that no one is going to suffer for it. Please promise me “ Regulus said the last three words in a shaking and begging voice.

Regulus had disappeared some years later. She had failed him. Society had failed him but most Dumbledore had failed him. He had failed every single death eater.
She would never let the same thing that happened to her friends happen Draco. She would protect him with all her power and strength. She just hoped it would be enough. She hoped he wouldn’t end up like Regulus.
