Fourth of July Special~ Jegulus edition

"Alrighty, do you have your earplugs?"

Regulus nodded and held up the tiny container that held the earplugs before putting them in his bag's pocket.

"And at least one of you fidget thingys?"

"Yep, already in the bag," Regulus says, looking up at James who was, surprisingly using a checklist to make sure they had everything for this evening.

"Okay good. Reggie, it's not too late to just stay home, it's going to be so loud and most likely crowded at first-"

"I'll be fine. Come on, Jamie, let's go watch some fireworks."

James sighed but smiled over at Regulus.

"Yeah, let's go."

The entire drive over James couldn't help but be worried over Regulus. This wasn't Regulus's thing for a million reasons.

Too loud. Too many people. Easy overstimulation.

With far to sensitive of hearing, horrible anxiety around people, meltdowns from overstimulation - it was going to be interesting to say the least.

. . .

They drove up to the park, parked their car, and got out.

The park was already filled with people.

James interlocked his hand with Regulus's hand and whispered, "We got this, Reggie. Deep breaths, do you need me to grab your fidget thing?"

Regulus shook his head, and gripped James's hands, taking deep breaths.

They grabbed their bags after a minute of calming down and getting used to their surroundings (though Regulus was far from calm at this point) they walked down the trail to hopefully find a more people free, calmer, spot.

Which they found.

James sat under a tree, on the green dewy grass and gestured for Regulus to sit on his lap.

Regulus sat down on James's lap without hesitation and watched the pale blue skin start to fade darker.

"It's going to start soon, I would go ahead and put your earplugs in."

"Already on it."

Regulus grabbed his earplugs and stuck them in his ears, taking probably way too long adjusting them so the least amount of noise could be heard.

The fireworks started, and Regulus gripped James's hands the entire time, watching the sky, and having to look away a bunch of times to try and prevent a random meltdown from the bright lights, loud sounds the earplugs barely muffle, and the weird texture of the wet grass.

But they somehow managed; it was the middle of the night, and they made it through the fireworks show without any issues from Regulus (to both of their relief).

"Happy Fourth of July, Reggie. I really hope it was a good one at last."

"It was, thanks to you; thank you."

"My pleasure, Reggie. Let's go home before it gets too late."

"It's midnight, can't get much later than this."

James laughs at that softly, and Regulus chuckles.

They both get up and start to head back to their car to drive home.

It really was, one of the best 4ths Regulus had ever had. Mainly because James was there to keep him at least, semi-sane.
