"Hey Jamie" Pt 2
His voice was hoarse and shaky, hallow almost; like he hadn't really spoken much in the years he was missing.
"Regulus-?? Oh my god- OH MY GOD ?!" James cries, getting up and basically running over to Regulus.
It was hard to tell if James's tears were of joy, disbelief, or grief.
Maybe it was all three.
"Oh my god.. is it really you..? Reggie..?" James whispers through his tears, standing in front of Regulus.
James wanted to hug him, to touch him, to do anything; just to make sure he was truly alive.
"Yeah.. It's me," Regulus says, his voice still hoarse and shaking at every word.
James doesn't initiate the hug, he gladly let's Regulus hug him and then wrap his arms tightly around his lost - now found - love. Hugging him as if he were to let go, he might disappear again.
"Reggie.. Where have you been..? Why didn't you-"
"I- I am sorry.. I'll explain later.. can we just.. hug?"
James nods and shuts his mouth at Regulus's request.
All that mattered was that is love was home, in his arms, after all these years.
And James would never let him go again.
After a few long minutes of just holding each other, James finally speaks.
"Love.. you need food, clothes, a shower- Regulus.. are you alright..?" James asks quietly, his voice soft and sweet as he just barely pulled back from the hug to look Regulus in the eyes.
It takes a moment, but Regulus responds with a nod.
"Yes.. and no. I'm alive and with you, that's all that matters.. but I don't think I'm truly fine."
James nods.
"Okay.. Why don't you go wash up and I'll go make you- us, some food."
Regulus nods again, but he doesn't want to let go of James, not yet at least, not after so long of them being apart.
"I'm not going anywhere, I promise," James states softly, just knowing Regulus didn't want to let go, because that might mean he leaves.
"Alright.."
Regulus reluctantly lets go of James and looks up at him.
"I'll be down in the kitchen, alright? I'm not leaving you."
Regulus nods and retreats to the bathroom to get washed up, as James leaves the bedroom to make some food for the both of them, but mainly his Reggie.
'This is not at all how I thought this day was going to go.. but fuck I'm far from mad at it.'
. . .
They catch up and fill each other in while they eat.
Regulus tells James of the lake, and the cave, and the horcruxes; about how he nearly died, and how he has lived in shadows as a cat for years.
James tells Regulus how everyone is doing, the state of things, how he has been; any question Regulus asks, he answers.
. . .
It was nice being able to be together again.
More than nice.
It was perfect.
Neither would trade each other for the world.
It was safe to say, they wouldn't be leaving each others' side for a very long time.
And they were okay with that.
