Fishing for a spy
21/06/1979
POV â Peter Pettigrew
Itâs been a week. A week since, one of his classmates, a friend of his has been murdered. Mulciberâs name was written on it very clearly. That much Peter can tell. The bloke had a very serious, very unhealthy obsession with her. His obsession was even worse than Jamesâs utter need to date Lily Evans. Jamesâs antics were atleast only overbearing and not homicidal.
James for all his excessive proposal never thought of Lily as a possession to own. He respected her. Listened to her. And knew almost when to back off, so as not to make a girl uncomfortable.
Lily and Remus are devasted at the loss of their friend. The two of them were very close to Mary. For James, Sirius and him, she was more like a friend of a friend. But the mood around everyone in the order was dark because one member, especially one of such a young age had left them forever.
The very heated discussion that took place between the marauders at their flat last week also has taken the backseat in the light of the loss of their comrade and friend. James had made the silent decision to not bring the issue again for a few days, but Peter knows it is simmering under his skin, the rage, the unfairness of it all, the betrayal. James had not let go of the topic, that Remus also knows because the two of them donât talk about anything useful to each other since then. Remus because of his grief and James because he has drawn the line at being indifferent.
If not for the secret that was revealed to James last week, Peter knows that James would be bending himself backward to make sure that Remus was eating, sleeping and otherwise taken care of in general. He would have been the first to offer his shoulder. Though Peter can see that James is offering his silent support but the warmth that makes him, James Potter, the best friend is missing. He may as well be talking to a stranger with the over politeness he shows towards Remus whenever they need to have talk to each other over mundane issues of being flatmates.
Remus had spent the last week at Lilyâs place which she had shared with Mary, most of the time. The two of them leaning in to each other during the time of their mutual loss.
Peter knows that it is not over. The lava of anger burning in James will bring end to the marauders. But Peter knows that they have been breaking since their sixth year. Jamesâs ire is just the final straw to the camelâs back. And Peter knows that it is okay.
That sometimes like relationships, friendships are not meant to last forever, even though they were beautiful in the beginning, comforting in the middle and amicable at the end. Not because you do not care for the other or that you do not trust each other. James and Peter trust Remus with their lives. They know that he will have their back. But they no longer trust him with their feelings and emotions. They do not trust him to do right by them.
Peter was the first to see that friendship between the marauders is not as long lasting as James and Sirius made themselves and everyone else believes. His and Remusâs friendship was already very fragile and almost non-existent without the support of the other two. Peter has the most time to adjust to this notion. But he knows that Sirius and James are suffering at the probable loss of a precious group. The Marauders
Sirius, because he still thinks that Peter and James are overreacting. He will blame himself for the break in their group. He still doesnât see that he had been wronged. The idiot is still talking to Remus and supporting him in Maryâs death. He doesnât understand that just because Remus is justified in his anger doesnât means that he is also justified in his cruelty. Peter doesnât know that if he will ever understand that he had been played with here.
Sirius used to call his brother, Regulus, naĂŻve and gullible, âhe is stupid, soft, idiot who doesnât understand that he has been manipulated. Played by his own parentsâ he used to say. Must run in the family then. Once you have considered someone your true family/friend, you let them hurt you, fulfil their wishes at the cost of your own self. Maybe his little brother is not so different as Sirius made him out to be. Itâs just that Sirius never really loved his parents that much to understand his little brotherâs dilemma. Now, his own insecurities are used by one of the people he trusted most.
James is also suffering two folds. Firstly, it is quite difficult for him to understand why his soul brother has hidden this piece of his life form him. And secondly that how could he be so blind to not see what was in plain sight.
James Potter is a person who feels too much. If he hates you, he will hate you with all his being. If he loves you than he will love you with all his heart. If he is angry then he will burn himself with that anger. He gives you his everything or nothing. Itâs a good thing that he is not clear that which of these emotions should take precedence as of now, combined with Maryâs death and lack of time due to Auror duties and Order duties, he is undecided. Peter canât tell exactly which emotions will take the back seat and which one will fuel him.
Nevertheless, Peter wants to live like a normal 19-year-old for once. Not a war soldier. Not a citizen whose country is under a war. Just a youth who makes all the wrong decisions and drinks his sorrows and whose friends kick his arse and sets him straight. A normal guy who spends most of his free time with his girlfriend. Who is worried about his future but not in relation to whether he would be killed tomorrow fighting but career problems, tension of parents getting old and all that. Just plain, vanilla, simple life.
So, today, to get away from war and all its struggle and just live life normally, Peter has set a date night with Casey, as last time it got cancelled after they learned about Mary. Today, the two can live in a little bubble of their new romance outside of this dark dark world. A night with his girlfriend. He had asked his boss, Mr. Lynes, to leave work early today.
First, he went to visit his mother, who had told him that he is to come and meet her atleast once a week. She doesnât know that her son is fighting in a war, otherwise she would have tied him and never let him out of her sight. She just knows that he is working on Zonkoâs shop.
Peter doesnât want to lie to her, but he like James and Sirius knew that if they told their parents (guardian in Siriusâs case) then they would not be able to join the Order. Their parents would have made sure of the fact.
His mother, Olivia Pettigrew nee Selwyn, is the squib daughter from a traditional pureblood family. His grandmother had somehow convinced the Lord Selwyn of that time to let her live. So, his mother was tossed in muggle world all alone at the age of eleven just because she could not perform magic. She always lived in a fear that one day her birth family will search her and try to kill her. Her husband also didnât help her in her paranoia as he was an abusive arsehole. So, her fear for herself and in addition to her son is not unfounded.
Only Peterâs closest friend and Casey knows that he is the son of a squib from an old pureblood family and a muggle. For everyone else he is a simple muggleborn. And it will stay that way so as to not attract attention from his motherâs old family.
It is not like Peter doesnât want to tell his mother the truth about him being a part of Dumbledore's vigilante group. But he thinks that the truth will be too much for her. He is the only one she has got. Being a single mother is not easy but she raised him with as much dignity as she could.
When Peter was 10 years old, his father came home drunk and Peter doesnât know why but he was shouting and then he slapped his mother and her head hit the wall. His father kept on shouting not caring that his mother was bleeding on the floor. Peter was feeling very scared and lost and tears were falling down his face, nose running. He pleaded his father to help his mum but Timothy Pettigrew was a monster and did not care for his childâs pleas and that made Peter very angry.
The next thing he knows there is sudden bright light and then his father is also lying on the floor with his eyes glassy and unseeing. If it wasnât for their muggle neighbour who had come rushing because of sounds of fighting, his mother would have died too.
His mum is a very strong woman, the one who inspires him the most. She never looked at him with disgust, which he feels for himself. Because he is a murderer and no one knows, no one except his mother. And his girlfriend. He did not want Casey to enter into a relationship with him without knowing that he killed his own father.
Casey along with his mother ensure him again and again that he was just a child and he didnât do anything wrong, it was just accidental magic because his emotions were running high. But still he cannot fully come to terms with the incident which made him know that he is capable of ending a life if someone were to harm his loved ones.
He wishes that like Sirius came out and told everyone about his home life, he could also confide in his friends about how his father died. Remusâs fury problem has been taken by all three in strides. So, maybe his friends would have accepted that part of his life and not think of him as someone bad, not worthwhile. But he could never work up the courage. And itâs not like Remus told anyone. They found out. In Siriusâs case also the signs were there.
So, he likes to regularly visit the woman who loved him despite all odds, despite the rough card that life had handed her. He just hopes that soon the war is over and he can confess to her that he had hidden from her this life-threatening decision he had taken.
Itâs not like that he and his friends were over eager to fight. Many people think that marauders would be the first one to jump into fights against death eaters. But the truth is that they had all wanted to live their dreams as the teenagers they were when they graduated. Neither he, nor sirius or James wanted to go behind the backs of their respective parents/pseudo parents about this Order business.Â
The only reason they joined the Order was because Remus has told them in no uncertain terms that he will join and fight. Seeing this James told Remus that if Remus would not budge over his decision, then he will join with him to have his back, Sirius also agreed since two of his friends were joining in. Due to James, Marlene also joined as they are childhood friend. Because of Marlene, Dorcas joined because they are best friends. Because of Dorcas, James, Sirius and Marlene, Peter also agreed to join.
So, basically if James had not been the good and supportive friend that he is, then only Remus would have been part of the Order because by then Peter was not so chummy with Remus and Sirius also would not have agreed if not for everyone else.
Besides Lily and Mary that is, as the two of them already had targets on their back because of their muggle ancestry. Mary because of Mulciberâs unhealthy and frankly disgust inducing obsession and Lily because her self-righteous behaviour had made her the most infamous muggleborn among death eaters. That and her friendship with Snape which brought her in spotlight of the baby death eaters who were in school with them. So atleast their decision was not based on Remusâs decision. Their life was already in danger, so partaking in this fight was the only option for them other that running away.
And Peter knows for a fact that Mary herself would have chosen to go in hiding in muggle world had it not been for her two-close friend, Lily and Remus. Lily because she was that bull-headed Gryffindor who would run head first into situations and Remus because he wanted to payback Dumbledore for his âfavourâ to let the guy study in Hogwarts, being the only werewolf to be allowed to do so.
James and Sirius and Marlene are all purebloods from some of the oldest families. Though titled as blood traitors, neither of the three would have been directly affected by the war if they had not actively partaken on the opposite side.
Despite Peter being muggleborn and Dorcas being half-blood, the both of them had no interest in joining a vigilante group to fight evil wizards and draw spotlight on them anymore than already there is. They did have a target but the decision to fight was because of indirect peer pressure and the need to keep their friends safe and have each othersâ back.
The saving grace is that Peter himself, Dorcas and Marlene did get to follow their respective dream career. Casey is training under Unspeakables, Marlene is a healer in training. Peter himself is working in Zonkoâs joke shop. From his days of playing pranks in school, he had been a regular customer at the shop and he fell in love with the job that Mr Zonko Lynes has. Every aspect of it. From a business perspective to getting to run ideas and invent new products, to dealing with customers. Itâs a job that keeps him on the toe. And that is something he strives for. He knows that he would have been bored to death in a desk job.
Peter considers himself the luckiest one among his friend group. Getting to be called as the boyfriend of the wonderful Dorcas Meadows, who had helped him be himself. Not many get the chance to find the love of their life so early on.
Also, unlike Sirius and James, who let go of their dream career of curse breaking and professional quidditch respectively, so as to work as Auror to help in the war, he makes a living out of something that he imagined doing. He didnât make a sacrifice in that section. And poor Remus is unable to land a job due to a condition that is neither his fault nor does it make him any less capable, responsible and hard working than he already is. The only thing that makes poor Remus feel good about himself is that he is an Order member and that he is standing and fighting for the right side of the war.
Peter is brought out of his musings by his mother, âPetey, are you even listening! Honestly, kids these days. I asked you to invite Dorcas whenever she is free. Tell her I will make her favourite cottage pie.â
âAnd what about me. Shouldnât you be making my favourite food. I am your son!â He says with a fake pout.
âNo, didnât you know that me and my future daughter in law are conspiring to be a team and make you suffer. The man always stuck between wife and mother.â His mum jokes.
âYa ya, if you think that is a scary thought then let me tell you that it isnât. My girlfriend and my mother will never do that to me. They love me too much.â He says with a smile
She shakes her head with a fond smile. âBut jokes aside, Petey, I know you kids are busy but do tell Dorcy that I miss her.â
âWill do mum. Ohh shit I am getting late for date mum, I should leave.â Peter says as he gets up and gives mother a goodbye kiss.
âLanguage Peter. Alright but do bring Dorcas next time. Have fun.â
He rushes outside and hears his mum say, âAlso ask Sirius and James to visit me. It has been so long. Tell them I will make whatever they want to eat.â
âAlright mum I will tell them, now bye I need to rush. Love you.â
âLove you too, Petey.â
Peter has decided to buy flowers for Casey from the florist shop nearby his mumâs house so he walks the short distance to the shop. He buys a bouquet of 12 Peonies, signifying their 12 months as a couple. Sirius who has learned in his pureblood etiquette class in the Black family, has told him that Peonies symbolise a happy relationship and serve as an omen for good fortune. He also asked the florist to add 5 red roses that signifies the day on which they started dating and a few white camellias because they are Dorcasâs favourite.
Peter pays for the flowers and makes his way towards a back alley so that he can apparate without any muggle noticing.
As Peter walks, he feels as if someone is watching. He checks in all four directions but sees no one. But his animal instincts tell him that something is off. So, he takes a sprint towards the back alley, he puts his hand on his wand in his pocket to apparate but before he could do so, his body goes all stiff and he falls on the road face first, the bouquet in his hands falls down, and his nose breaks from the effect with a sick crunch. âOh god, what is happening!â he thinks in panic with his heartbeat skyrocketing.
POV â Evan Rosier
Life as a death eater is not going to be fun, he knew that. After all watching his father kissing robes of that man. He knew that his father has dug a hole for the entire family to lie in, so lie in he will.
Now, Evan was atleast lucky to get to complete the school before this double-edged sword was left hanging on his head. Because that is what becoming death eater is. Damned if I do and damned if I donât. You get killed along with your family if you donât agree to become the lapdog because your father was foolish enough to pledge his loyalty to his schoolmate, on one hand and on the other hand, you die daily out of loss of dignity and watching and participating in the deaths of so many people who are none the wiser of this war brewing.
Evan himself has never killed anyone until now. And he is thankful for that. Tortured people, yes. That was one of the tests that he had to pass before he was bestowed the honour of becoming a death eater at his initiation last year. But never tortured to death or insanity like his cousin in law Rudolphus. He tries to hide behind big bad death eaters, who are more concerned with hearing the cries and pleas of innocent people rather than focusing on who is not participating in this madness.
Evan had tried to make himself as useless as possible. If you donât work well then you are not handed more work. Then slowly you start getting unnoticed and become the part of the crowd. Many new death eaters try to please the dark lard by becoming his over eager mindless puppets but Evan has seen his father do that for years and knew that reward for being a good death eater is selling your soul. So, he does the bare minimum. That is also possible because of his father and Rabastan. They also help him in trying to draw the minimum amount of attention on himself.
The same cannot be said for his partner in raids, Rabastan Lestrange. The man has his fair share of wrong deeds hanging on his shoulders but Evan knows that he himself could have been in Rabâs shoes had situation been a little different.
Rabastan is a young death eater of 24 years. He graduated from Hogwarts 6 years ago and has been a loyal and blind follower of the dark lord since then.
Evan would not call Rabastan, an idiot per se. The guy is one of the best duellers but he is thick. Just like his brother. Both siblings are mindless in their dealings. Rumour has it that when their father and lord of the House Lestrange passed away, the dark lord took Rudolphus under his wing when the guy was barely of age, still in school. As soon as the elder Lestrange sibling graduated he became a death eater and not a long time after he was a force to be reckoned with.
But Evanâs father thinks that most probably it was the dark lord himself who killed the lord Lestrange because he was a proud pureblood and would have never bowed to anyone else. So, taking the man out of the equation was the Dark Lordâs only chance at gaining one of the most influential dark pureblood family there is.
The irony of serving the man who is the reason of your fatherâs death is not lost on Evan. But the Lestrange siblings either donât know or donât care about their own fatherâs cold-blooded murder as the two of them have become the most feared from death eaters in the Dark Lordâs ranks.
The only good thing Rabastan Lestrange has ever done in his pitiful life, as far as Evan is concerned that is, is to think that Evan is incapable of murder and is too soft to torture anyone. Though Evan knows that being able to do those things is nothing to be proud of but he doesnât do it because he couldnât. No, he is very much capable to do so. But he himself, privately of course, has never been much into blood purity fanatics.
Rabastan never pointed out that Evan is not partaking in the madness. He even took care of Evanâs portion of responsibilities.
If truthfully asked, Evan is thankful that Rabastan does what he himself does not want to do. That is not wanting to kill muggles and muggleborns.
He even dated the most infamous muggleborn in his 5th year, secretly of course, Lily Evans. They were in the same year, he in Slytherin and she in Gryffindor. It was more of a casual dating scene than a serious relationship. But it was a win-win for the both of them.
Evan himself got to learn more about a world he had never known beyond rumours. And also, she was a good lay. And Evans learned some of the underhanded techniques from him, you know, how to use others for our advantage and all that only by observing him in his dealings.
Though the girl was not far behind in it. She is one of the most self-serving persons he had ever seen. But dating him had made her embrace that part of her rather than shy away from it. She also learned to cut away her losses.
Because Evan had in a post bliss state had blurted out to her that being friends with Snape is bringing her negative spotlight. And how she has become a bigger of a target for potential death eaters because of the issues between Potter and Snape. And the speed with which she let go of Snape after that made Evan question her loyalties. Evan did think whether she was a snake in lionsâ outfit because she shirked away from Snape as if he is infected from a contagious disease.
Not that Evan himself would not have done the same but weren't gryffindors supposed to be noble and chivalrous.
But the even more shocking think that the girl did was dating Potter who she claimed to have despised the most. Evan knew that she was doing it to safeguard her future by attaching herself to a pureblood guy who was so openly against this bigotry. She got her boyfriendâs three best friend as free bodyguards to have her back all the time, that was an added benefit.
But the girl was pretty clever in that too. She made Potter brat earn her. So, that he does not loses his interest in her too quickly if she agreed too quickly and she also had to appear to be grieving the loss of the friendship with Snape.
But the girl is smart, Evan will give the credit where it is due. How she was not sorted into Slytherin house Evan canât think of. Or maybe she knew that she will be eaten raw in the house of snakes, what with her being a mudblood. So, she went to the other house which is so similar to the Slytherin house.
The mean streak of his ex-girlfriend went a mile ahead and Evan is thankful that he knew when to cut his losses because he did not want to bring himself any harm from her underhanded plays.
Or maybe Evan had read into it too much. Maybe she is the saint that every professor and student in the school claims that she is. And Evan thought of her as such because he himself is an overly cautious, pessimistic and paranoid person. But that is what he felt she was doing.
Evan thought of her as an opportunistic person because of three reasons.
⢠Severus Snape:
Snape and Evan were roommates. So, naturally Evan had a little knowledge about the person he sleeps in the same room with. He saw their friendship- Snape and Evansâs. But everyone with a little brain can tell that Evansâs interest in continuing the friendship has been lost when she found out that the schoolâs celebrated bullies, the marauders, were singling out Snape and being his friend was bringing her bad spotlight.
She stared pulling away from the guy around their 3rd year but somehow it ended in their 5th year when the poor guy was humiliated before a whole lot of audience and Evans publicly renounced their friendship. She took the one-word Snape had said in the moment of weakness and ran with it.
Evan also knows that Snape used to give private tuitions to Evans for potion class. The duo was ahead in the class. And somehow Evan canât help but think that Evans waited till 5th year to end the friendship because that was the time when the two of them completed their private studies in potions till the Newts level. Once she stopped needing Snape, she dropped him.
Not that Snape was any better of a person himself, Evan agrees. What with him calling the people of her status as mudbloods despite his own best friend being one. Only she was the exception for the sulky guy. He used to bully all other muggleborns along with mulciber. Even went as far as to bring harm to Evans's other best friend, the MacDonald girl. So, no he was no saint.Â
But everyone in the school and their mothers could see that the guy was interested in her. But the muggleborn princess could not see any use from a half blood wizard like Snape. So, of course she perfectly played the role of innocent little fool and friend zoned the guy.
Again, this might be only Evanâs (Rosier) own over pragmatism and looking into things too deep but he wasnât alone in feeling that Snape was played by the mudblood. Many in Slytherin house also had the same views.
⢠Evan himself:
Evan had always been good in duelling. In earlier years he used to be careless with letting people know of his talents. It was before his OwL year that he got the epiphany that too good scores in DADA will come back to bite him in the ass. What with dark lord wanting his followers to use it practically on people. So, Evan knowingly did poorly in his 5th, 6th and 7th year exam, making it appear that he is barely passing.
But by then Lily Evans was one of the few people who knew that he is not as bad as he is appearing to be in the subject. She also knew that he was one of the Slytherin who did not openly call her slurs or targeted her. So, she approached him. But she did it as if she was interested in him. Maybe she was or maybe she wasnât. But he was a guy who wanted to get into the pants of a pretty girl who was offering, so he didnât mind her playing coy.
They started their secret tryst, both of them being prefects made it easier. Evan had asked her to keep it a secret but the clever minx later started threatening him that if he wants to keep it a secret, he will have to train her into duelling arts.
Evan knew that she canât prove shit and her own self worth will go down among those righteous people she called friends if she outed their thing but he was not done with her by then so he made it seem that he was really scared of her blackmail.
He did half heatedly teach her. And as soon he began getting bored of her, he let go of her.
Evan knew that she could have practised with Snape. But the girl had a keen eye in searching the most talented person to serve her purpose. Snape was specialist in potion and knew about dark arts, what with him creating spells to use against people he did not like but at the time he was no match to a pureblood from an old family like him in duelling. So, she batted her eyes at him, scion from a dark house. And it worked in her favour.
Though she also knew that she was barely scrapping the barrels of the actual knowledge of what Evan was teaching her. Now the mudblood canât expect him to lay down the darkest secrets of his family just because she was offering herself to him. He only taught her basic duelling and hexes and curses that should have been taught to them if the school had appointed a decent DADA professor.
That arrangement between them let Evan know that she was too big a player, a master manipulator, like some child prodigy. Maybe thatâs why Dumbledore liked the girl, she must remind him of himself at the age.
⢠James Potter:
When she started to lay trap for Potter in their 6th year, Evan could see it for what it was. The girl knew that whatever she did, however talented she might be, she would not be able to climb the social ladder. This is how the wizarding world is. For her to be someone in the wizarding society she chose the buffoon who was practically begging her to date him, making a fool of himself in front of the whole school.
Evan can see that the girl is beautiful and can definitely understand the physical appeal but how could someone want to spend their whole life with such a self-serving, self-righteous, conniving and stuck-up women, Evan will never understand. But then again Potter himself had a brand of viciousness to himself, so maybe such people attract each other, because Evan can see that Evans was also romantically interested in Potter, beside the purpose he could serve to her.
Evan knows that it was not necessarily out of wrong reasons. Lily Evans herself had faced many purebloods making her feel inferior and she had faced them head on and proved to them that she is more than capable. She is an ideal muggleborn, if there was one. But the poor girl had taken a fight which is too big. Especially in a time when a war is already happening out there.
He knows that she was trying to get adjusted in a new world. Wanting to prove her worth to people who looked down on her. But she overtaxed herself and in doing so, she sometimes let the demons within her, rule herself. She let her negative traits flourish in times like these. It was not like she was wishing bad for either Snape or Evan or Potter. No, she just wanted the best for herself.
And being a Slytherin he can appreciate ambition. Because Evan has never seen a person so driven like her. When she wants something, she gets that. And there is again nothing wrong in that, unless you are in her way to get that.
But she is too ambitious like the dark lord or Dumbledore. The dark lord who promised a better world to purebloods with brining back old ways and showing the muggleborns and muggles true place, ended up killing people left and right, magical and non-magical, purebloods, half-bloods, mudbloods. He became a monster instead of a saviour.
Like Dumbledore, who will go to any lengths for the greater good. Who will let people die if they serve the purpose. Who is a hypocrite and considers everyone from dark families as evil. Evans and Dumbledore both are prejudiced in their own ways but they canât stand when others have their own reservations.
And seeing as how the Dark lord and Dumbledore are hurting their society, Evan thinks that he is alright in fearing people like Lily Evans who will go to any lengths to prove to the world that they belong, even more than the people who already do.
Sometimes Evan wishes that he had been born in muggle world without magic, at least he would have been far away from this fucked up world. If anyone even caught a whiff of his thoughts, he would be killed painfully and slowly. But Evan let himself fantasise a simpler life.
Every day when he wakes up, he does not know how many people he would be forced to torture. Or when will be the day when he can no longer hide behind his father or Rabastan and will have to kill someone or torture someone beyond healing. He already hates himself enough, he does not need anything to add to the reasons.
Atleast his latest mission does not seem to be the one where he will have to end someoneâs life.
The dark lord wants to plant a spy in the order of the phoenix. The resistance. Vigilante group.
Snape, the potion master of the dark lord had suggested that they target Peter Pettigrew. Said that the guy is one of the weakest among the order and that he may break easily.
The dark Lord had said that if Snapeâs intel indeed proves to be correct then he will be rewarded.
Evan thinks that Snape is wrong in Pettigrewâs assessment. But again, he is trying to draw the least attention on himself, so he did not point out. Itâs not like he is affected by any of it. If it works then Snape gets rewarded. If it doesnât work then he gets punished. Evan will just have to stay away from his leaderâs radar and all will be fine.
But if someone asked he would tell that Lupin was the weakest in their little group, what with him ready to piss at his own shadow. The guy is super scared of his not-so-secret secret coming out to people. As if purebloods will not recognise signs of lycanthrophy when they see one. The gall.Â
But he has already decided to take the back seat in this war that is of no benifit to him. So he keeps his opinion to himself.Â
He and Rabastan had been tailing the guy for the past month. Getting to know their target.
Today, they found the opportunity to corner him, the poor guy wonât be enjoying date with his girlfriend after all.
They have decided to play good cop and bad cop with Pettigrew. If Rabastan knew that the term that Evan used for explaining the idea is a muggle one, he did not comment. And that is what Evan liked about the younger Lestrange brother, he was not like other Death eaters who wanted to make themselves good in front of the Dark Lord even if it meant for them to make others look bad. The guy is simply cruel for the sake of cruelty and nothing else. He is not a backbiter.
Evan knows that when the both of them are through Pettigrew, he will be quite shaken. They do not have to convince the guy today itself or completely terrify him that he runs away.
No, they will slowly court him to see error in his ways. Brainwash, yes that is the muggle term. When he and Rabastan are done, Pettigrew will be a completely different person. After all, however brave a person may be, no one wants harm to come their loved onesâ way. It is just yet to be decided what is Peter Pettigrewâs breaking point. Till how long will he be able to hold. Struggle.
The two of them know all there is to know about this guy. And he can run as much he wants to but he will never be able to outrun them. One day he will have to bend as per their wishes or he will have to first watch his people gone and then face his own painful end.
Only time will tell, whether Snape was right in saying that Pettigrew will break or will the little guy storm the pain that is soon to come his way.
Rabastan casts a body bind curse on the man and Evan secures the area by casting muggle repelling charm, so that no nosy muggle will peak and most probably die at the hands of Lestrange Jr. as he is in a particularly bad mood today. Why, Evan does not know!Â
The both of them remove their disillusionment and smirk before facing their target of the day.
Letâs the game begin.
