THE OVERSEERS OF THE MYSTERIES
An interactive story in the Marauders’s era !
What is it ?
The overseers of Mysteries is a (free) roleplaying game/interactive story, with a focus on mystery solving and characters’ interactions.
Who can play ?
Anyone over 18. Feel free to play even if you are busy and can’t answer often !
How does it work ?
This game is a hybrid between roleplay (RP) and tabletop roleplaying-game (TTRPG). It is similar to a choose-your-own-adventure book.
The TTRPG mechanics have been simplified significantly in order to give more importance to the roleplay. You might have to roll a few dices, but there won’t be statistics or tedious fights. Most situations will be solved through roleplay and through your writing.
• You, the player, play one, and only one, character. You are the one who decides what your character does or says. Your goal is to solve the mystery. (Unless you decide otherwise.)
• I, the narrator, play the rest of the cast in order to provide you with an entertaining and challenging environment. My goal is to create an interesting mystery for you to solve !
This game will be played online, by writing on a Google doc. Each group will have its own, private Google doc.

Can I play as a canon character/original character ?
Yes ! I recommend playing as a canon character, but it is possible to play as an original character.
I particularly recommend playing as Severus Snape, as he is the one who will come across most clues. A character that spy on Severus and follow him might also be a good choice, as you will come across the same clues as him. (For example, the maraudeurs & Lily.)
Characters must be in their seventh year at the start of the story, and either in Gryffindor or Slytherin. Original characters must have been homeschooling/studying in another school so that they might arrive at Hogwarts at the start of the story, making their introduction easier.
Who is the creator of this game ?
It’s me ! I regularly play and organize tabletop roleplaying games, with a focus on mystery-solving, and, for a while, I’ve been wanting to organize one in the Harry Potter’s universe. I’m particularly fascinated with the marauders’ era and the first war against Voldemort.

Here is the introduction you will get if you play as an Howgart's student :
Mrs Chandler, their Defence Against the Dark Art teacher, had probably died during the Christmas holiday.
It was not that surprising. The position was cursed; it was only a matter of time before a tragic accident was to happen. It wasn’t even the most spectacular case; a few years ago, the new DADA teacher slipped and fell down the stairs, fatally injuring his head. He had not even given one lesson yet.
According to the rumors, Mrs Chandler had been attacked by the death eaters. That, too, was unsurprising. The attacks were becoming more recurrent, and more violent.
Her body had not been found.
It had taken a few weeks for the headmaster, Albus Dumbledore, to announce that she was presumed dead, and a few more to find a replacement. Between the curse and the incoming war, qualified candidates were harder and harder to find.
Eventually, an old Greek wizard, Hector Charon, accepted the position.
A few students had written to their families, seeking to learn more about the new teacher. If the rumors were to be trusted, then, the man was from a relatively new pureblood family, pure enough for his name to be considered respectable, but not pure enough to carry the influence of one of the great families.
He didn’t seem to have been involved in politics, or in anything noteworthy, really. The current consensus was that the wizard seemed to be a harmless lunatic, foolish enough to come teaching in England, in these troubled times, but hopefully, not foolish enough to involve himself more in their business.
Anyway, (your character's name) would soon be able to judge by himself, as his/her/their first DADA lesson with the new teacher was scheduled for this afternoon.
