The Beginning
Lidia Powell had always lived a quiet life. During her Hogwarts years, she tended to drift under the radar, never getting too close to anyone and never making any enemies. After graduating from Hogwarts, Lidia worked hard and tried to save enough money to open a potion shop in Diagon Alley. Eventually, she reached her goal. Lidia was on her way to buy the store when she got robbed. Now the only place Lidia was able to afford was in Knockturn Alley. While this wasn't the life she anticipated, she did the best she could. Lidia kept pushing, working hard every day for three years. One night while shutting down the shop, she heard a cry from the small alley next to her shop. Lidia looked around, and before long, Lidia saw something in the rubbish. She poked her head in, gasped, and picked up what was inside. It was a baby! She brought it inside and made it a small bed out of blankets. She vowed she would figure out who he belonged to in the morning.
The next day she checked the newspaper to see if there was anything about a missing baby. While reading the paper, she learned of Voldermort's defeat and the death of Lily and James Potter. She also learned about the saviour child. There was even a picture of the once-happy family. Lidia Powell quickly realized just whose baby she had. As she stared at the baby, she considered her options. Lidia could turn him into the ministry, but they are undoubtedly busy capturing the Dark Lord's followers. She could take him to Dumbledore, but as a Slytherin, she didn't trust him very much. The baby had godparents, but they seemed firmly in Dumbledore's pockets. The only option she had left was to care for him herself. Lidia might not have been one of Lily Potter's closest friends, but she appreciated how much she cared for others, even for nobody Slytherins like herself. So, to repay Lily Potter, she would care for her baby. It would be wise to think of a cover story for the child. If anyone found out Lidia had the boy, they could both end up dead. It would be best if he had a less-known name. She knew Harry could be short for Hadrian, and Powell is close to Potter. All that was left to do was to take him to Gringotts. Lidia Powell had a feeling her life would never be quiet again.
Gringotts was a gigantic building, even from the outside. The goblins offer many services, from managing money, investing in businesses, managing lordships, and even, strangely enough, guardianship. Before going in, Lidia made sure no one was looking her way. She wrapped Hadrian tightly in his blanket before putting him under her coat. Lidia hurried up the stairs, past the guards, and up to the first available goblin. She informed him that she had important business with the head goblin that concerned a very important heir. The goblin asked a few questions before walking over to a small door. Before too long, he came back with two guards. They indicated that Lidia was to follow them, so she followed them as they went down winding hallways. It wasn't too long before they reached large ornate doors. The first goblin knocked on the door. Lidia could hear a voice shout from behind the doors before the guards opened them. Inside was a cluttered but grand office.
"You are interrupting my day. What is your business, and what does it have to do with an heir?" Lidia whirled around before finding the source of the voice behind a lavish desk. Lidia grabbed Hadrian before approaching the desk.
"This is Harry Potter. But I want him to be known as Hadrian Powell. I want to take guardianship of him so he doesn't fall into Dumbledore's or the Ministry's hands. Will you help me?" The goblin gazed intently for what felt like an eternity, then retrieved a sheet of blank paper and a small blade.
"I will need to draw his blood to validate his identity. Then, I will help you." Lidia was so relieved. She wrested one of his tiny hands from his blanket and held it so the goblin could make a small cut. Hadrian cried briefly, but she comforted him and healed the wound. One drop of blood fell on the paper, and ink spread throughout it. The goblin snatched the now complete paper, reading the results. "It appears that he is who you say he is. I will get the guardianship papers for you now."
Before long, the goblin was back with a large stack of documents. All Lidia had to do was sign all of them. Each acknowledged different things. For example, one was to ensure she would inform Hadrian about his lordships before he reached the age of sixteen. One made sure she could not steal all of his money. One made it so he would be known as Harian Powell while still getting to keep his name. After all, Lidia didn't want to erase his parents. The most meaningful paper came last. It officially changed his guardianship to her. While Lidia Powell did not know just how influential her actions would be, the effect would change the world forever.
