chapter seven
In the following months up to the winter holidays, the students managed to finesse some answers out of the teachers. Dumbledore did indeed take on two trolls on his own, whilst the other teachers each took down a single troll. Apparently Dumbledore took out the trolls using an obscure spell which was specifically designed to make magic resistant creatures go to sleep. The rumors about dead students weren’t true though. Instead of dying, a group of two(Hermione Granger and Dudley Dursley) was seriously injured during the fight between the trolls and teachers. They were all better now, though they were a lot more nervous, especially Dudley, who hadn’t bullied Harry at all since the attack, though that was only a matter of time to continue once more.
Now, in the winter holidays, the school was almost empty and Harry used this to read up on more spells than he normally did. He needed to be the best, he needed to be the most powerful. It was what his heart desired most.
When Christmas rolled around, Harry woke up as early as ever. To his utmost surprise, presents were lining his room, all addressed to him.
He got sweets, chocolate frogs and homemade fudge, books on curses and counter curses, a book on the history of the potters and -most surprising of all- a cloak of invisibility. The cloak was made of a silk almost as fluid as water itself, with strange runes barely visible to the naked eye. A card was attached to the cloak, reading in small, sharp letters: ‘Your father gave me this shortly before he died, I think now it is time to give it back to you. Use it wisely -a family friend ‘
The christmas feast was delicious, Turkey and Swan was served to those still present, small firecrackers lined the tables, which upon lighting transfigured themselves into useful trinkets. From them, he got a few chocolate frogs, a wizarding chess set, a pair of silver scales and more.
Harry could, for the first time in his life, enjoy Christmas, for Dudley was nowhere near and everything was quiet and relaxing.
After the holidays ended, school resumed as always.
Nothing out of the ordinary happened for the rest of the school year.
After the end of term exams, the students were send back home. Naturally, Harry had the best marks of all slytherin first years. The slytherins also won the house cup.
All in all, his first year at hogwarts was great.
