The Investigation.
The house was much scarier without Barty or Evan to lead them around. Plus, all the stories they were told in each room made the rooms seem more terrible.
“The camera’s battery has gone out,” Peter said. “Did we bring any more batteries?”
“They should be in the backpack. So check there.” said James.
They got the new batteries into the camera and they began filming again. This time, they were without their tour guides.
“Wait, didn’t we ask for a medium to come as well?” Sirius asked.
“Yeah she said she was going to be late,” James replied
“Right.”
Remus turned on his flashlight and the room lit up. They slowly made their way into the first room they would investigate.
“Everyone, welcome to the seance room.” Remus gestured around grandly. “This was where Ed and Lorraine Warren famously did their seance to communicate with the spirits of the house.”
When Remus said this, his flashlight flickered. James squealed.
“James, oh my god, it’s the light,” Peter said, laughing.
James cleared his throat, “Yeah. Mhm.” He said quickly.
They sat down in a circle and Remus pointed his flashlight upwards. They set their things next to the door.
“If there are any spirits who would like to interact with us, give us a sign. It could be knocking, footsteps or anything you’re capable of.” Sirius said and waited.
In the distance there was a knock. It was a sharp knock, and it sounded like it was on the front door. Sirius and James both jumped and they quickly hugged each other in fear. Remus’ eyes widened.
“Who’s there?” Peter called into the night.
“Pandora.” A voice returned.
James and Sirius immediately looked embarrassed and they stood up and went to retrieve Pandora. Once they returned, she sat in the circle with them.
“This is Pandora, everyone, she is our medium for tonight, and hopefully for future episodes as well,” James said and gestured to Pandora.
Pandora looked at Sirius and narrowed her eyes, her gaze travelled to an empty spot just above his shoulder. “You’ve got a spirit with you. Don’t you?” She said and then nodded as if her question was already answered.
Sirius’ face paled. “A spirit?” He said.
“I think his name is Regulus,” she said, “or that’s what he’s told me at least. He seems peaceful. He’s almost like a guardian angel for you.”
Sirius' face relaxed at this, and his eyes became slightly glossy. “That was my brother. He died.”
“I’m sorry to hear that.” Pandora said.
“Thank you,” Sirius said. “Let’s actually start this seance then.”
They held hands and Pandora pulled out some candles from god knows where and lit them in the middle of their circle. She said that it helps her concentrate.
James felt a tug on his shirt. He jumped up in surprise and began screaming. Peter got it all on camera. “Something just touched me! Something grabbed my shirt!!” He shouted.
They all watched him in surprise.
“Yeah, they do that sometimes,” Pandora said sweetly.
“Oh.” Is all James said before sitting back down.
They continued the seance, however, it seemed the spirits didn’t want to go into the seance room. Remus pulled out a spirit box.
“Okay so spirit boxes are something that the spirits can use to communicate with us,” he explained to the camera. “They switch through loads of radio stations and the spirits can manipulate the sound to make it say something that they want it to.”
“That was a terrible explanation, Remy,” Sirius said, laughing.
“Well it’s true!”
“Yeah, yeah. You’d think with all of those books you read, that you’d be able to explain things, but clearly not.”
“You have a go then.” Remus said, throwing the box to Sirius.
It was arguments like these, that the fans of the channel believed that Sirius and Remus were dating. Or at least flirting. They did these so often, in fact, that there were compilations of them arguing. The longest one compiled was 15 minutes long.
“OK. the spirit box. It flips through multiple radio stations constantly and it’s thought that spirits can change what these stations say.”
“You just said what I said.” Remus interrupted
“No I did not.”
“Did so.”
“Did not.”
“Oh shut up, will you?” James yelled above both of their voices. “Spirits aren’t going to communicate with us if you keep bickering like this.”
As if in response to this, a candle in the middle of their circle went out. Sirius gasped.
“Pandora did you see anything happen?” Peter asked, panning to Pandora’s face.
“Yeah actually. The spirit that’s attached to Sirius moved toward the middle of the circle and disappeared. When he disappeared, the candle went out.”
They stared at Pandora for a good 20 seconds.
After that, there were no other interactions from the spirits. They decided to go into the middle bedroom which was upstairs.
“I don’t like the idea that the bedroom is active. Like. At all.” James said, climbing the stairs.
“Neither, but it’ll be really good if we get any activi-”
“Shush.” Pandora interrupted Sirius.
She pointed to the top of the stairs. A shadow had covered it. It was a masculine figure, about 6’’2 and was standing still.
Everyone froze to their spots, just staring at the figure. While the figure stayed still, watching them.
“Is the camera on, Peter?” James whispered, not taking his eyes off the figure.
“Fuck.” Peter said loudly, and the shadow vanished. “It’s not on.”
Everyone sighed loudly before getting into the room. It was a nice room, or would’ve been if there wasn’t some weird feeling in it.
“I don’t like the feeling of this room.” Peter said, and he felt a sliver of fear pass down his back. “Something is going to go wrong here.”
“This room is apparently really active in here because there’s a male entity who doesn’t like women. Sorry Pandora.” Sirius grinned at Pandora. “So we might actually get some luck.”
Remus pulled out a black music box. “This music box is motion activated. Which means that if something passes in front of the box, a tune will play.” He said. He put his hand in front of the sensor and the box began to play a creepy tune.
“Can we not use it? I hate the sound it makes.” James said
“No.” Remus returned smiling.
Remus walked to the entrance and placed the music box so that if someone – or something more likely – was to walk past, the sensor would be turned on.
James pulled out a REM pod. “This is my favourite device we’ve got. It goes off if something touches the little stick here.” He touched the rod and a beeping sound went off.
James put it near where the music box went and then sat down on the floor back in their little circle.
“If any spirits want to communicate with us, we’ve got a spirit box, a REM pod and a music box.” Remus called out into the darkness which surrounded them.
Then, a creepy melody sounded from the door. The tinkle of the music box. As if someone were standing there, looking into the room, watching those inside. James jumped and started freaking out.
Then the REM pod went off.
“I don’t like the beeping it’s making. I volunteer Remus to go fix it. All in favour of making Remus fix the REM pod, say ‘aye’” Sirius said.
“Aye” from James.
“Aye” from Peter.
And a little pause before, a little “Aye” from Pandora.
Remus sighed and stood up. He took his time to walk to the door. Exaggerating his every move. Then he froze. He blinked. Twice. Whatever was there, seemed to have disappeared and Remus fixed the REM pod and placed it back down. This time, there was no sound coming out of it.
The music box was still going. Remus walked over to the door. He picked up the music box and he turned it off and on again, before walking back to the circle.
“I don’t like that look on your face, Remus.” Peter said, concern filling his face.
“I don’t like what I saw, Peter,” Remus said.
“Did you see the shadow figure in that corner there, Remus?” Pandora asked, reaching a hand out to him.
“Yeah, but it was unlike anything else I’ve seen. Like Ever.” He said.
“How was it like?” Sirius asked.
Remus remained silent, staring off into the distance.
“Maybe take him outside, Sirius,” James said.
Sirius stood up and coaxed Remus to follow him, and they left the room together.
Later, fans would comment on the fact that James made Sirius, one of the most scared of them all, to go with Remus. They alluded to the fact that they’re definitely dating or at least have some really close friendship with each other. Half of their fandom ship them together, while the other half have been defending them. They all enjoy scrolling through those threads.
A faint knock sounded from outside. James and Peter screamed bloody murder, and Pandora covered her ears until they stopped.
“It was a knock. I bet you’ve heard it many, many times now.” Pandora said.
“Wait, do you hear that?” Peter whispered, “it’s like footsteps, running up the stairs.”
James scooted closer to Peter, like if he was closer, he’d be able to hear the footsteps too. Also because he was scared shitless and having his back to the door was not the best idea for him.
The footsteps stopped right outside the door. They all tried to get a closer look without moving closer. It was then when the music box went off again, the creepy music going off again.
The three of them sat and stared into the darkness. Peter grabbed Remus’ flashlight and pointed it at the door. Immediately, the music box stopped.
“Oh my god, we could’ve died!” James said and sagged in relief.
Peter laughed and stood up. “I think we should go get Remus and Sirius now and also move to another place.” He said.
They agreed and then walked down the stairs, which felt much more creaky than they were when they climbed them.
They found Remus and Sirius outside, standing very, very, very close to each other. Sirius’ arm was wrapped around Remus’ waist. While Remus’ arm was around Sirius’ shoulder. Their backs were to the group.
“Oi, Remus, Sirius, come back if you’re feeling better.” James called out to them. They turned around, Remus’ face was flushed and so was Sirius’.
“Alright. Where should we go next?” Pandora asked.
“Basement.” Remus said.
“Absolutely fucking not.” James and Sirius said at the same time.
“We should.” Peter said from behind the camera.
“All in favour of the basement, raise your hands,” Remus said, raising his own.
Peter raised his and so did Pandora.
“Well if you’re going to go to the Conjuring House and not go to the basement, I think you’re missing out on the experience.” Pandora said.
“Fine.” James said.
“What the hell, James?” Sirius shrieked. “You’re meant to be on my team!”
James only shrugged, “Race you to the house.”
He bounded off, with Sirius following shortly behind.
