"Alright, we're ready."
They were ready, indeed.
The barn they were standing in was abandoned, no one would have come there. Moreover, it was late at night. The stars were covered by the full moon's light. It was a werewolves night, but the two boys standing in front of each other didn't seem to be scared by this fact, even though the barn was near the woods.
On the other side of the room, there was a little cauldron and two glasses.
"Do you remember everything we have to do?" the blonde one asked.
"Yes," the other replied, "we drink that potion, we say the spell and we cut our hands. I'm ready."
"Are you sure you are?" The blonde boy sounded worried. "You need to be completely willing to do what we're doing. It's a blood pact, for Merlin's sake!"
"I know," the other boy whispered, "I know what I am doing and why I want to do it."
The blonde boy smiled. "Ok, then. Let's do it."
They took the glasses and drank that not so good looking potion; there was silence between them, the importance of that precise moment was falling over them. They've always known they were made by the same soul, that blood pact was only a concrete way to prove it.
Once they had drunk, they took their wand and muttered an ancient spell. They stared into each other's eyes as they spoke, feeling the connection between them.
And the moment came. They had to lean their wands on their hands and they should have cut themselves.
The wands caressed their hands, anxiety and nervousness were hanging around them, when…
Nothing.
The wands didn't cut.
The pain they were expecting didn't arrive.
"What? Why?! WE DID EVERYTHING WE HAD TO DO!" the blonde boy yelled.
"For Merlin's beard, keep calm, Gellert!" the other one said, "you don't want to wake up all Godric's Hollow."
"Why, Albus? Why didn't it work?" Gellert sounded desperate. He wanted that to happen so much that it was driving him crazy.
Albus leaned closer to him and put his hands on his shoulders. "Don't worry. Maybe we mispronounced the spell. We can try again." He gave Gellert a warm smile.
Gellert stayed still for a while, then pulled back from Albus and turned around.
"Or maybe we weren't completely willing to do it."
"Excuse me?!" Albus snapped, "you're accusing me?!"
"Tell me!" Gellert faced Albus and shouted. "Tell me why you wanna do this damn blood pact! I told you why several times. I told you I want to do it because I believe in our cause. I believe in us!"
The silence broke in as Gellert stared into Albus's eyes, and Albus's eyes went cold, hurt.
After a few seconds which felt like forever, Albus whispered: "Are you assuming I do not believe in us?"
"No. It's just… I've been wanting this exact thing to happen for so much now that… I don't know what to think. And willpower is the most important thing for a blood pact…"
"I believe in us… I want this to happen, too…"
"You just have to put the intention in the spell," Gellert smiled sincerely, that kind of smile he had only when he was with Albus. "Tell me, Albus. Talk to me."
Another silence filled the barn. Gellert pulled back, turned around, walked slowly and then faced Albus again.
"If you say the reason you're willing to do this out loud, maybe…"
"Because I am in love with you!"
The moment stopped. Both of them looked surprised by Albus's revelation. The silence was annoyingly loud. Gellert was frozen right where he was and Albus was blushing hard.
"And also…" he mumbled, "also because… I believe in our cause and I… I am willing to do anything for it."
Gellert didn't say anything, his expression was incomprehensible but somehow looked softer. "Let's try again," he just said.
And so they tried another time.
They drank the potion and muttered the spell again, more focused than ever. Then, they leaned the wands on their hands. This time the pain arrived. A deep wound formed. They brought their hands together. Albus closed his eyes and Gellert’s heart melted at that vision. He closed his eyes as well. When they separated their hands…
Two blood drops flew, as both boys were holding breaths, one from Albus’s hand and one from Gellert’s. They searched themselves in the air, they met, they became one thing.
A rhomboid phial formed around them, shining and creaking a little.
Then, it gently fell down on Gellert’s hand.
“It’s beautiful,” Albus said after a long moment of silence. “It is,” Gellert confirmed.
“So… this is it? We are stuck with each other forever, now?” Albus giggled and Gellert laughed with joy. “We are! You can’t leave me, silly boy!”
They laughed and then hugged and laughed again. Happiness filled that barn.
Half an hour later Albus and Gellert were laying in Albus’s bed next to each other, the blood pact between them. They had noticed that the blood pact made them feel… different. It was like it triggered a sixth sense. When they were close, they could somehow feel their closeness. They could feel each other. And they knew it was forever; they had no idea of how to break it. It was a pretty big deal. But they were okay with it. They were confident in their cause and goals and the feeling they had for each other was stronger than anything. They had loved each other all summer and they didn’t even have the need to confess it. They just knew.
“Albus?” Gellert whispered, even though they were supposed to be sleeping.
“Mhmh?”
“I am in love with you, too.”
