Personality: Adventurous, loves exploring new places. Mischievous, often getting into trouble. Cheerful, always optimistic. Exceptionally loyal, though only to those she feels have earned it. Determined, once she sets her mind to something she doesn't let anything stop her. Inspired, especially by nature. She isn't an extrovert, preferring time alone exploring the countryside than being at a party with people, but has a small group of friends she adores.

Relationship With Mother: Strained. Louisa is stubborn and has fixed ideas of how Layla should behave, especially with her magic, and can be harsh when she feels Layla isn't even trying to meet them. Layla is of the belief that she can't meet those ideals without compromising her personality and oftentimes rebels against her mother. While Louisa isn't cruel, she is stubborn, prideful and hot-tempered. Louisa has been looking into ways to punish her more severely without hurting her (that is a firm last resort, though it is still an option)
Relationship With Father: Austin is a quiet man that prefers to avoid conflict and is rather trusting. He also doesn't have magic, and relies heavily on Louisa for his knowledge on it and how it works. Due to all of the above he doesn't tend to interfere when Layla is punished because of how she used her magic, straining his relationship with her. He also can't connect with her over hobbies, since he is a man that prefers staying inside with a book about his latest obsession and a cup of herbal tea to hiking through forests and watching the sunset.
Relationship With Brother: Spencer looks up to Layla a lot. He is open with people, wearing his heart on his sleeve and very imaginative. He often follows Layla on her explorations and has thoroughly charmed Delilah and Tallulah. He and Layla are close, him confiding in her his fears and excitements over the magic (including dread over being put to the same expectations from their mother as Layla) and her acting as mentor figure, teaching and guiding him though they are only two years apart.
