The Phone Call in an Alley
Sirius Black, 5:02 pm, November 20th
“Well, shit,” Sirius sighs. He supposes he looks quite stupid, having just been rejected by a beautiful man he was sure would fall for his charm. The only thing Sirius could do now was wait on the next coming train, not wanting to spend the day alone in an unfamiliar city. He only left the train because he was certain Remus would follow, so now he doesn't know what to do with himself. He leans against a pillar, similar to what he did less than an hour ago.
“Star man?” he hears behind him. Suddenly his whole body is on fire again. That's how he felt with Remus, on fire. It danced in his veins, shooting sparks up his entire body, making him feel alive but strangely at peace. Remus reminded him of a beautiful demon, luring him in. And god, he couldn't give a shit if he were in hell, burning for his sins. As long as he was with the strange wolf boy, he was happy.
Sirius turns his head over his shoulder, looking behind him, and finds Remus standing completely still, a little distance away. Seeing him alone made Sirius want to fall to his knees and devote his whole life and purpose to him. He turns all the way around and smirks, a large loopy expression, and slowly walks to Remus. While Sirius is unable to hide how ecstatic he is, Remus looks calm and collected, maybe a little star-struck. But that's to be expected. Sirius is a star, after all.
“Hello, moony,” he greets after finally reaching the other, looking all around his face to find some sort of reaction, always finding nothing, “Change of heart?”
Remus scratches the back of his neck with the hand not holding his suitcase, sending a lopsided smile that causes Sirius’s whole body to catch fire, “Yea, I guess. Something like that.”
Sirius lets his whole mouth form a large, toothy smile, which he usually saves for only James and Reg. “I'm glad,” he says, looking down at Remus’s filled hand, “let's find some lockers, yea?” He finishes while knocking his head slightly forward toward Remus’s suitcase.
“Uh, yea, sure,” Remus responds, looking unsure and lost.
Sirius chuckles, walks to the lockers, and turns around to ensure Remus is following behind him. When he turns around and finds the other man completely still, staring straight ahead of him, Sirius is confused beyond compare. He goofily turns around, head swinging before his body, and walks back to the wolf boy. He stops right next to him, facing the side of his body. Remus is still standing still, not even looking at Sirius.
“You coming?” Sirius asks, and the sound of his voice causes Remus to jump.
“Yea….” he says, “yea, sorry.” He turns a little and looks right into Sirius’s eyes, “I'm sorry, I dont- I’m not sure what that was.”
Sirius chuckles again, “You’re fine, pretty boy. The night is still young. A couple of wasted seconds is fine,” he says, thinking the complete opposite. He doesn’t want to spend even a few seconds without Remus.
Remus cracks a small, sweet smile. “Sure, freak,” he says before walking in the same direction Sirius had taken earlier.
Sirius gawks at his back and quickly races to catch up with the impossibly tall man, “We were having a nice moment. Did you have to ruin it?!”
“I don’t do intimacy, sorry,” he responds, looking down at Sirius, who was practically running to keep up with the other man’s casual strides, shrugging.
“Oh, does it make you uncomfortable that I care about your well-being?” Sirius accuses, eyes squinting.
“Yea, actually,” Remus says, looking down at him again.
“Oh, fuck you,” He responds, rolling his eyes.
“We can have that arranged,” Remus says, looking down at Sirius with a smile. Sirius looks up at him and smiles right back, happy at the thought of that idea.
“So, why'd you run away, moony?” he asks, and the question causes Remus to look away from him, saddening Sirius beyond compare.
“First, why the fuck should I tell you,” he says, briefly looking down at him again, “Second, dont fucking call me that.” He says, still looking forward as they reach the area where the lockers are located.
“Well, you’re spending the night, possibly the only night, with me. We should just spill all of our secrets with no shame, don’t you think?” He asks, “And I’ll call you whatever I want, thank you very much.”
“I only followed you because I have no other plans and might get a shag out of it,” Remus explains, focusing on shoving his suitcase into the small locker and locking it when he was finished. He silently knocks Sirius with his shoulder and nods toward the lockers. Sirius only shakes his head, seeing no point in putting his bag away. Remus shrugs and starts towards the station’s doors.
Sirius suddenly remembers the topic of the conversation from before and continues his thoughts, “That's how you see me, a quick shag?” He asks.
“An annoying short prick that I may able to shag, yup.” Remus smirks, still refusing to turn toward Sirius.
Despite being rudely insulted, Sirius feels everything burn. He’s been flirted with the hottest men on planet Earth and the sexiest women on legs, but no one has made him feel like Remus Lupin has. He tries to form words, but he simply can't, too stunned to speak, a dumb smile frozen on his face.
“Well, I’ll have you know I’m here because I find you interesting,” Remus looks down at him at that and cocks one eyebrow up, “And because I may want to shag you, but that's beside the point.” Remus nods at that, finding the answer he is apparently looking for.
They finally reach the doors, and Sirius, the gentleman, reaches out to push the glass door open first, motioning with his hands for Remus to step through. Remus rolls his eyes but steps through nonetheless, almost hitting his head on the top of the door frame. Holy shit was this kid tall.
Sirius finds himself staring at him, walking towards the steps into the beautiful city, and finally feels the weight of everything happening right now. He was known for being spontaneous, dangerously so, and never thinking about the consequences, and this moment is a perfect example. He’s found a pretty runaway and has decided to spend a night with him without knowing a single thing about him. He hasn’t even contacted his family, suddenly realizing he hadn’t checked his phone once, even though Sirius promised to give Reg a ring when he was safe on the train. The thought causes Sirius’s brain to freeze, remembering the last time Sirius forgot to call on one of his days out. Regulus ended up calling the police, worried he had been kidnapped. “Stop laughing at me, Siri!” He can hear his dear brother scolding, “I was worried sick!”
He thinks about the memory and smiles, lost in the moment.
“Uh sir, are you gonna hold open the door forever?” someone behind him asks. When he looked over, he realized he was slightly blocking the pathway. A small line formed behind him, filled with impatient-looking people all glaring at him.
“Oh shit, my bad,” Sirius murmurs, heading out the door.
When he finds Remus, he’s leaning against the rails of the stairs and having a laughing fit, bending over with his hands in his jeans pockets.
“Oh, shut up, Mcwolf,” he murmurs, not embarrassed. Never embarrassed. He starts heading down the stairs, and the tall man follows behind him.
“Oh lord, that was so embarrassing to watch,” he says, wiping tears from his eyes, “you were just standing there while all of the people waited their turn,” he barks out another laugh, “What even had you stuck that long?”
“I forgot to call my brother,” he states, already looking for somewhere to step out to call in a semi-private area.
“...Ok?” Remus questions, not understanding what it means.
Sirius stops in his tracks, causing Remus to slam into his back. Sirius turns around and explains, “The last time this happened, he called the police,” he turns back around, still looking for an alleyway.
Remus runs beside him and stares down at Sirius, “Are you shitting me?” he asks.
“Nope,” he states, popping the p, “So much bloody paperwork,” he murmurs.
“That's fucking hilarious,” and Sirius looks up to find Remus laughing to himself. Sirius could get used to this more happy, free side of Remus. “It must be nice for someone to care that much about you.”
“Yea, I suppose so,” Sirius says, looking back forward. Suddenly he sees a small alleyway in a split between a pizza and book shop. “Aha,” he says, stepping into it.
“Do you need me to leave or….” Remus questions, standing right outside the alley. Right as he asks, someone on the sidewalk bumps right into him, cussing him out and hurrying off again. Remus stands, looking at the man as he walks away, and turns back to Sirius, giggling.
Sirius smiles back at him while grabbing his arm and pulling him towards him, “Better if you stay here with me, I suppose.”
“Guess so,” Remus says, smiling still.
Sirius smiles at him one last time and breaks eye contact to reach for his phone, turning it on and seeing the forty-six texts from James and the ninety-eight from his brother.
“Oh, merde,” he whispers, now seeing the three-hundred missed calls from the both of them combined, a couple of texts from Pete, and even two from Marlene. “I'm screwed,” he murmurs.
He quickly dials Regulus’s number, and his brother answers before the first ring can even finish.
“Siri?” he asks softly.
“Hey, Reg,” he replies equally as soft. He looks up and finds Remus still smiling at him. Sirius offers a small smirk and continues talking, “Sorry, Regs, I got distracted.”
“Yea, I fucking hope you have a good reason!” he screams. His mood suddenly switched after finding out that his brother was safe. The screaming was loud enough for Remus to hear, who started laughing loud and clear, causing Sirius to wince, “And who the fuck is that?! Huh?! You better have a good fucking explanation, Sirius Orian Black, I swear to god!” Causing Remus to laugh even more, not hearing the words but definitely able to make out the tone and volume of his brother.
The noise of someone grabbing the phone overtakes the speaker, “Hey, Pads! I love you- ow! Reggie!” He hears James say, “Ok, ok, I'm going. By Pads!” he hears James scream and the light noises of Regulus swatting him away simultaneously.
Sirius chuckles and hears Regulus scoff.
“Hey, hey, I'm sorry ok?” Sirius tries, “I found this guy, and I can’t explain much else except I'm fine, and I’ll talk to you later, k?”
“No! Not fucking K!” Regulus screeches back, “The fuck you mean ‘found a guy’?! You’re going to get yourself killed, Sirius! You can’t just do thing-” Sirius cuts his brother off with a quick, “I love you, Reg, and I'm safe! Ok byeeee!” before hanging up, his brother obviously pissed as he brings the phone down.
“Holy shit, he sounds like fun,” Remus says, clutching his stomach.
“You have no idea,” Sirius murmurs, stepping back out into the sidewalk, “OK!” he says while clapping his hands and picking a direction to walk in, “Now that scary brother is out of the way, what do you want to do first?”
The perfectly timed grumble of the other man’s stomach answers the question for him. Remus looks down at his stomach while walking and looks back at Sirius while shrugging.
“Alright, food it is!”
