Chapter 4
“Goddammit. Where the hell are they?” Leon asked, impatiently pacing back and forth. “It’s almost 6:30.”
“I’m sure they’re on their way.” Chris said. “Relax, man."
“Ugh, can we just go inside?” Em impatiently said, adjusting her blue silk dress.
Their heads all rose as a car rolled right past the group and reverse parked.
“Who’s that?” Ashley asked.
“Wait, that’s Jordan’s dad’s car.”
The door opened and Jordan jumped out of the car, pushing his seat forward, allowing the three in the back out.
“Never again am I riding with Jordan.” Sam said, trying to remain on her feet.
“Oh stop it, Sam. It wasn’t that bad.” Hailey said, getting out and grabbing Beth’s hand to allow her out.
“Told you he’d show up just in time, Leon.” Chris said, walking up to the car.
“Jordan, my man!” Matt said, dapping him up. “Lookin’ good, dude. Digging the suspenders.”
“I had to leave the house looking at least somewhat decent. Mom wouldn’t stop bothering Hailey and I about taking pictures before we left.”
“I think we all agree with that sentiment.” Chris laughed. “My mom wanted to take so many pictures, it could probably fill an entire photo book.”
Jordan closed his door. “If you’ll excuse me, I have a date to let out of my engine drawn carriage.” He said, walking to the other side of the car and opening the door.
“Woah. You didn’t tell us Hannah was your date.” Leon said in shock as the girl stepped out of the car.
“That was the point. I wasn’t going to tell anyone but Beth, Josh, Sam and Hailey. And no, Josh didn’t force me to take her if that’s what you were going to ask. I voluntarily asked her myself. Impressive, am I right?” He said as he closed the door.
“Very impressive indeed.” Leon answered.
“Alright, enough gawking, people. Can we get inside already?” Jordan adjusted his glasses.
“Yeah, yeah.” Joey said, heading towards the entrance.
Turning to Hannah, Jordan could see that her eyes were locked with Em, who mutually returned the sentiment.
Everyone could tell the tension was through the roof as the two women glared at each other.
Having enough of it, Michael pulled Emily away to head inside.
“You guys go ahead. We’ll be right there.” Jordan said, popping his trunk and grabbing the suit jacket he was originally going to wear with his outfit.
“I don’t like that they’re here.” Hannah said, her expression of disgust never wavering.
“I get it, Han.” He wrapped the jacket around her bare shoulders. It was a wee bit big around her figure but it was definitely good enough for her so she didn’t complain.
“Believe me. I don’t like it either but this is once in a lifetime night and I want you to enjoy it. I won’t let anybody ruin it for you tonight. If any issue arises, I’ll handle it.”
Taking solace in his words, she interlocked her arm with his and proceeded forward.
