“Can I tell you something?” Severus crawled into bed next to his husband who was reading a new book.
“Of course.” Remus responded, setting the book to the side, once he had finished his page.
“I—well, you know how Harry is biromantic? And Draco is homoromantic? Because they are asexual?”
“Yeah, so?”
“Well, I was talking to Harry earlier, maybe an hour before he left for Neville’s, and, well it’s a long unimportant story how we got there, but he said, I mean, I’ve seen some videos, well not exactly in that order, I mean—”
“Sev, calm down. You know you can tell me anything, right, baby?”
“....Yeah.”
“Really, baby?”
“Yeah, I do, really, it’s just….I don’t know. This changes so much, and also nothing, and…it feels like my whole identity has been crumbled then put back together.”
“Change as much as you want or need; you’re supposed to.”
“Supposed to?”
“Everyone changes; it’s just life.”
“What if I change too much? What if you don’t like me anymore?”
“There’s no such thing as changing too much. Anyway, I’m changing too. Like I said: everyone does.”
“But your sexuality isn’t changing.” Severus clapped a hand, the right one, over his mouth, eyes widening comically. He had a bad habit of saying things he didn’t mean to, the words just kept pressing against his brain until he couldn’t help but let them slip out through the gaps between his atoms.
“But yours is?”
“I—yeah.”
“Okay. In what way?”
“I—well, like I said, Harry and Draco are both ace and therefore homoromantic and biromantic instead of homosexual and bisexual.”
“That’s right.”
“So, I thought that you could only be something-romantic instead of sexual if you were asexual. But, Harry said that you can also be something-romantic if who you’re sexually attracted to is different from who you’re romantically attracted to.”
“He’s right. So, you’re saying that the gender you’re sexually attracted to is different from the gender you’re romantically attracted to?
“....Yeah….Is that okay?”
“Of course, love. I don’t care what your sexuality is. But, can I ask what it is?”
“Well, I’m homoromantic, which we all already knew. I could never be with anyone romantically who wasn’t a man. Maybe nonbinary, but probably only if I was already with them.”
“But it’s different sexually?”
“Yeah, I think—I am pansexual….I’m sexually attracted to all genders.”
“That sounds wonderful.”
“Wonderful? Why wonderful?”
“Why not?”
“....I don’t know….It doesn’t really change much, I’m still sexually attracted to you, and we’re monogamous, so….I guess it just changes the type of porn I watch…I like solo-female better than anything, honestly.”
“I thought you hated what genitals look like? That’s why we never get naked when we have sex.”
“Fully-clothed solo-female.” Severus amended.
“Well, there you go then. Now you get to be more sexually satisfied when you masturbate.”
“Is that really worth changing my sexuality though?”
Remus smiled, repeating his previous words. “Why not?”
