A love of our own

Regulus looked at the boy hunched over on chair letting and promised himself that no matter what he would never abandon him. He would never leave him. He would never stop caring. The sun and the star was a forbidden relationship that always missed each other by mere minutes but if you looked closer they were never without the other. They belonged to the same sky but could only be seen without the other.

Regulus envied his brother's relationship. The stars and the moon were meant to be together. They belonged to same sky at the same time. If the moon was up, so was the star. People found them beautiful and always put them together. They had a relationship that was set in stone.

James, sun of his life and the one who always found a way to make everything better, was just as wonderful as before but James seemed to find it the other way round. Regulus could only admire from afar. He was conflicted on whether or not he should move. The chair was just big enough to fit them both but he wanted James to have his space. It was hard to look away from him, his eyes seemed to be stuck on the boy in front of him. He would gladly stare at the sun until he went blind.

Even in his darkest moments, James was the brightest person in the room and whether he knew it or not, he could charm anybody.

"I'm sorry Reg. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry." James finally said, his voice now more audible.

"You don't need to be sorry dear." Regulus assured him, picking himself up from the floor and sat on the chair opposite the boy.

"Wait say that last bit again." The boy now had a large grin on his face.

"Dear?"

"Yes. Say it again!" James was practically bouncing in his seat and was starting to laugh which made Regulus's heart melt.

"Dear." A soft smile appeared on Regulus's face. It made him happy that James was grinning and laughing this much. He missed the iconic laugh and dimples in his cheeks. It was past the point of cute. It was adorable. "Oh you are enjoying this, aren't you?"

"Maybe I am. Was it that obvious?" They were both laughing together with their at the other's words. It was so simple and Regulus wanted to hold onto the moment forever. Or for as long as he could. Forever was never an option. He never believed in 'in death do us part' as death was unpredictable. It could whisk anybody away at any moment it wanted. Somebody had to leave first. Somebody had to die first. One person has to live by themselves for the rest of their lives and Regulus knew it was going to be James.

James.

James.

James.

His heat and soul. The one that caught him on the ledge of the Astronomy Tower that one fateful night. The very night that James had promised to look after him no matter what just like Sirius had. They were so similar yet so different no wonder Sirius referred to them as brothers. Sirius and James were inseparable they were practically joined at the hip from the moment they met.

"I love you. You know that right?" Regulus said after catching his breath. He had tears in his eyes from both laughter and partially reliving memories that had been buried in a box at the back of his mind. They weren't meant to be opened this soon but he was used to memories being drawn forward without him wanting them to be.

"Oh I know Reggie. If you didn't you wouldn't have allowed me to enter the dorms. Hell you wouldn't have talked to me or even given me that book earlier."

"I guess I didn't think of that." Regulus stared at the boy in front of him, a miracle that appeared out of nowhere but was somehow everywhere. The loud charmer of the school and made everyone fall for him. How did he fall for his? Surely he was better than this. "You have a point for once darling."

"Why do you do this to me?"

"Do what?" Regulus winked, putting on an angelic voice as he leaned towards James. Only a coffee table was separating them.

"Well maybe the way you somehow manage to get my attention with jut one word."

"Do you want me to say it again darling?" This was fun, seeing James getting flustered over one word. Adorable. Regulus leaned his elbows on the table and rested his face on one of his hands, his other hand free to move around when talking. "Who thought I could get the 'Almighty James Potter' to blush? This is news to me!"

"You are getting awfully close but if you sit next to me, you get even closer. There is an empty spot open for you." James had managed to get himself together. Not that it mattered much all.

"Well nothing is exactly stopping me. So I might as well." Regulus got up and lifted James's chin up in a swift motion. "Is this seat taken?" He asked, eyes pointing towards James's lap and dragging his hand over his jaw, placing it on his lip before pulling it down and leaving it on his chest. James's heart beat was beating fast and it just got faster.

"No, not at all."

"Good, wouldn't want anyone mad, would we?" Regulus sat himself on James's lap, both hands cupping his face as he leaned closer. James only nodded as he ran his own hands down Regulus's back, catching the edge of his shirt, rubbing his lower back and dug his nails in when Regulus kissed him along his jaw. It was slow but short.

Regulus felt the burning sensation of James's lips on his neck and ran his finger down James's spine, loving the way that he shuddered under the touch. They knew that somebody was bound to catch them eventually but they didn't care. The only thing on their mind was each other and the other's touch.

James moved his way up Regulus's neck, stopping at the jaw momentarily and inching closer to his mouth before pulling away. He looked at Regulus with a smile on his face. Regulus grabbed James's tie, bringing James closer to him and brought their lips together. They melted into each other with the only noise being their heavy breathing
