Prologue
A black cat sat patiently on rock on the outskirts of the Forbidden Forest. It seemed to watch over the castle. There was a tale that if you spoke to it nicely you would be rewarded and if you told it stories about your life you would be invited to the Astronomy Tower or Room of Requirement but if you were mean to it your deepest secret would be leaked without a known source. There would be a letter sent to you to meet up with the youngest Black late at night it was never signed with a name just a paw print in bottom right hand corner.
Nobody knew that the youngest Black and the cat were one and the same. It was secret that only his friends knew and promised not to share. Madam Pomfrey was an exception though. She was the only one that knew all of the animagi in the school. Everyone knew she was the most accepting and loving person in the whole of Hogwarts Professor McGonagall being second.
The cat was about to leave his watching spot and head back to the dorms when a boy walked over, seemingly in tears. The boy sat down next to rock and tried to regulate his breathing as well as trying to stop the never ending tears flowing down his face. The boy looked familiar to the cat but he couldn't put his finger on it. The short, slender figure and untidy uniform. The pale skin and shoulder length jet black hair pulled back and put in place with a wand seemed so welcoming to him. Why did he have to forget everyone's name now? Whoever he was, he was comforting to the cat. It was almost as if they had met before this, had so many memories and conversations filled with joy and laughter. The cat hopped down from his watching place and place his head in the boy's lap before jumping up onto his legs.
"Hey there buddy. I'm sorry if I disturbed something but I just needed some comfort if that's ok?" The boy whispered smiling slightly at the sight before him. "I guess the flashbacks got the better of me, huh?" Why was he laughing at this? He was in a troubling situation yet still making jokes and laughing about it.
"I guess I should tell you what happened. I mean Minnie doesn't even interfere with the meetings and she generally doesn't care about them but the ones sent by letter, she finds them important for some stupid reason." He said looking at grass fiddling with a small purple flower, twirling the stem and studying every little petal on it. " My parents just really don't know what love really is. They don't even love each other they just keep on fighting and fighting then taking it out on me and my brother. I understand why they do it to me. I'm the disappointment. The failed child who can do nothing right. But my brother. He follows every single rule and keeps quiet at family dinners. He doesn't interfere with any of the plans. Yet he still gets punished. I want to go back and save him but I might die you know? I'm asking that like you know what's happening entirely."
The cat did know. He knew it like the back of his hand. He as in a similar position to this boy. He could understand everything too well. He could read and feel every emotion in the explanation that the boy gave.
