Part 19

Barty leaned back onto the brick wall behind him. He was still outside of the Room of Requirements, waiting for Regulus and possibly Sirius. He had insisted to the others to leave him behind and that he would meet up with them later but Evan had volunteered to stay with him. Of course he had. It was Evan after all. He enjoyed the company so he didn’t mind.

The hallway was empty which was understandable as nobody really walks around here after dinner so the two had it to themselves. Everybody was probably in their dorms or common room, maybe the courtyard but that was quite a stretch as the teachers were doing sweeps around there so they would be immediately caught no matter what. Some people had managed to escape them in the past but nobody else had managed to do so. It was simply impossible now that the teachers had expanded their search locations so that it even reached the outskirts of the Forbidden Forest.

Evan placed his head on Barty’s shoulder, humming to a tune that they had heard at one of the Slytherin parties earlier that week. He had been singing it endlessly since that party even though he had been completely plastered when it had been blasted in the common room. Barty guessed that the song must have been such a core part of the event that even drunk Evan could remember the tune.

“Do you even know the name of that song?” Bart asked, looking down to the boy resting on his shoulder, “You’ve been humming it non-stop and I don’t think you even know what it’s called.”

“I don’t think so but I am going to have to wait until Reg snaps and just tells us.” Evans laughs, moving himself away from Barty and now looking him in the eyes, “We can’t just go up to him and hum it and expect him to find it.”

“You have a point.” Barty laughs along, quieter but still loud enough for Evan to hear, “He wouldn’t allow you to keep on singing along to a tune you don’t know the name of for long though so let’s hope he finds tells us soon.”

“Yeah. He has been on an edge for quite some time now so he’ll tell us soon.” Evan said, hope in his words though his face didn’t match it.

“I wonder why he’s been in a mood, Ev.”  Barty says, sarcastically, waving to the outline of the door in the bricks next to him. “It is such a mystery.”

“Oh fuck off. I know why he’s been in such a mood recently, ok?” Evan flipped him off as Barty rolled his eyes at him. He knew why Regulus had been in a mood and it was a valid reason. Sirius was quite close to him, even after the apparent argument in the Infirmary so it was an understandable reaction. They had been looking out for each other once they had started talking again so he didn’t know if Regulus had known the whole time or if he had discovered it on his own accord but either way it must have crushed him.

“Ok, ok.” Barty grinned, holding his hands up in a fake defeat. “I was just saying.”

“So was I.” Evan eyed him but eventually cracked a grin of his own and put his head back on Barty’s shoulder again, after he had put his hands back down. He leaned up and planted a small kiss on the bottom of his jaw, smiling when he saw a small blush creep up Barty’s neck, “You’re adorable.”

“Shut up.” Barty muttered, rubbing the back of his neck with his free arm, “you’re a pest.”

“Oh I know.” Evan laughed once more, fiddling with his tie with a grin wide enough to reach his eyes, “But don’t think you’re free to go. You nearly set the Potions room on fire for fun.”

“It wasn’t for fun.”

“Oh it so was.” Evan persisted, “You purposefully grabbed some dried flowers, heated them under the cauldron until they were on fire and put them near our textbooks.”

“Why were you watching my every move?”

“Because I was making sure that you didn’t do stupid shit like a 15 year old toddler.”

Hey! I’m not that bad!” Barty exclaims, putting a hand on his chest acting all dramatic and shocked. Typical.

“Oh will you quit being dramatic for once in your life. You could be an actor with the amount of drama you put in your reactions.” Evan rolled his eyes at him, “Not saying it’s a bad thing but you could maybe try to calm down a bit.”

“How dare you, my reactions are very reasonable.”

Suree.” Evan mutters sarcastically. “Very reasonable.”

He turned and planted another kiss on Barty, this time a bit lower down than his last one, aiming for his neck, causing the blush to appear again but this time it wasn’t as prominent.

“You’re insufferable.”

“You’re one to talk.”

“What do you mean by that, Ev?” Barty asks him, an eyebrow raised, his voice seemingly offended, “I am not that bad.”

“Keep lying to yourself and it might come true.” Evan assured him without an ounce of sincerity in his voice. “Honestly Barty you might be smart but you lack a lot in the common sense department. Might want to get that checked out.”

Rude.”

“We are friends with Regulus, you can handle more than that.”

“Fair.” Barty shrugged, at least he was putting his last bit of common sense for today to use. “He would be far meaner than you.”

“Good job for using your common sense.”

“You’re starting to sound like him now.” Barty tells him simply, laughing slightly but his tone  was informative.

“My problem, how?” Evan asks him, “It will drill some sense into you.”

Barty just smiled and looked down at him again, placing a small kiss on Evan’s head. “Payback.”

“Payback justified .” Evan smiled back, feeling his face begin to heat up. “And appreciated.”  he adds on as an afterthought.

“You’re adorable.”

“What happened to the insults? Did you give up?”

“Correction.” Barty sighed, “You’re insufferable.”

“That’s more like it.”

“Fuck’s sake. Will you ever stop?”

“Never.” Evan giggles, yelling out when Barty kicks him, “Oi” What was that for?”

“Being an idiot.”

Brat.” Evan retaliates, kicking him back twice as hard, not that it seemed to affect Barty in the slightest.

“Love you too.”

“Shut up.” Evan looks away from him, hiding the blush that was getting brighter by the moment.

“Aww did I make Evan Rosier blush?” Barty asks, turning Evan’s face so that it was facing him once more. Evan nods at him, unable to find his words. “And he admits.”

Evan just flips him off, kicking him again.
