The Morning After
Remus woke up confused. It was the morning after a full moon, one of the last ones of their fifth year. He felt strange, stranger then he usually did after full moons. He smelt blood; maybe that was why. He hadn’t woken up with the smell of blood since fourth year. The other three Marauders were usually there, in their animagi forms, to make sure Remus didn’t harm himself. So where were they now? Remus lay pondering on his small cot in the shrieking shack, awaiting Madam Pomfrey’s arrival.
Eventually Madam Pomfrey came, and escorted Remus from the shrieking shack. She seemed nervous, but maybe it was because of his injuries. Remus had no clue. It was Madam Pomfrey who broke the odd silence once they were walking across the grounds, back to the castle.
"Are you feeling okay, Dear?" She asked Remus in a soft tone. Remus was slightly off put by the question, it was a usual thing she asked, but it somehow felt odd. The atmosphere felt weird.
"I’m okay." Remus mumbled.
Once they made it into the hospital wing. Madam Pomfrey did her usual healing. Although, it felt slightly unusual, because Remus hadn’t needed any healing for almost the whole school year. It appeared he had some small cuts, none too severe. He lay down in his hospital wing bed, as Madam Pomfey has recommended he got some rest. "It’s been a long night for everyone." She said, which was strange but Remus decided not to question anything for the time being; he felt too tired.
He woke up a few hours later, feeling restless and sweaty. He felt like he should leave the hospital wing, so he did. He spoke to Madam Pomfrey, she said he was free to go, "Just rest," she said. Remus knew he would be fine, but he assured Madam Pomfrey he would, so she would allow his leave. He changed from his hospital wing pyjamas, pulling on a sweater and black trousers, before leaving the hospital wing. He decided to search for the other Marauders, questioning why they weren’t there.
He searched almost everywhere, the Gryffindor common room, their shared dormitory, and the library; he doubted they’d be there, though. He didn’t seem to be able to find Lily anywhere, either. He figured she might be in the girls dormitories, but for obvious reasons, he couldn’t go up there. He eventually came too his last resort, and decided to ask McGonagall where they were. He knocked on the door of her office a weird, anxious feeling creeping into his stomach. "Come in." She replied to the knock, as he walked into her office.
"Oh, hello, Mr.Lupin," McGonagall said as Remus walked into her office. "I’ve needed to speak to you." She added. That filled Remus with a small amount of nerves, but he ignored those and decided to take a seat in front of her desk.
He was about to ask about James, when she began to speak. "So, last night, an event has happened, regarding your condition." McGonagall said, in a concerned yet stern tone of voice. Remus felt panicked and confused. Was that why none of the other Marauders were there that morning? Had he hurt one of the Marauders? Those thoughts crowded his brain, before McGonagall spoke again. "Severus Snape found his way into the whomping willow during your transformation." She said severly.
McGonagall kept speaking, Remus didn’t listen. Her voice sounded as though her voice had been clouded over by his thoughts. Remus felt betrayed. His three best friends, the people he’d spent all of his magic school years with, had told others? No.. maybe Severus found out on his own. But all the same, that felt less logical. Why would someone as prissy as Severus want to be anywhere near that tree? He didn’t want to hear anymore.
Once McGonagall finished speaking, Remus thanked her, all though he had no idea what she was talking about, he said it anyway. He went back to the common room, feeling confused. But now another emotion crept in. Anger. He’d been angry before, but not like this. He shuffled through the portrait hole, distraught. Then, as if they had appeared out of thin air, he saw the other three Marauders, all looking at him.
"Moony-" they all said, almost in unison, but Remus wasn’t having it. He stormed out of the common room, up to their shared dormitory. This was when he really felt that anger; he didn’t feel like being in the room with any of them - not without calming himself first.
