Summary
A short epilogue to Draco meets the Boy Who Lived
Note
Decided to publish this as a sequel rather than a new chapter as a) it’s been a while and b) it’s totally optional - I’ve mixed feelings about epilogues too myself…

Harry tapped his glass with a spoon, causing a chime rang out across the room. Conversation muted and a sea of faces - family and friends - turned toward him.

Clearing his throat, Harry stood up and cast an amplification charm so everyone would be able to hear his speech.

"I want to thank you all for coming here today and joining us on this special occasion

"Besides being a day of celebration of our union, today is also the anniversary of the first time I met Draco. Today marks the twentieth year since we first met.

"They've not always been easy years, and life has not always been kind"

Harry let his eyes drift across the room, missing the faces that should have been there but weren't

"I met Draco at one of the darkest times of my life. I was alone, in pain, lost, and he reached out to me in that darkness and held out the hand of friendship. He too was only a child and had his own problems, but he freely gave me his love and friendship, and a place of sanctuary. Everything I ever needed he offered with open arms, even if I couldn't find the words to ask.

"We all know Draco; he probably tells himself there was some sneaky, selfish reason behind it all. Perhaps that is true, or was true at first. But it doesn't change that he gave me the world, and has continued to give me the world ever since, no matter the personal cost."

Harry turned and looked down at the man gazing up at him, grey eyes wide and a pink blush riding his high cheekbones

"Draco. I think I've loved you since the first day I met you, when you wrapped me up in your arms and made everything feel like it was going to be OK for the first time. We had a few rocky years at Hogwarts when you had to learn how to share, and that thing with old snake face that just wouldn't go away, but we came through it stronger than ever."

A few hysterical giggles and coughs rang out

"When you walked away from your family, I asked you how you could do such a thing. As an orphan it seemed unimaginable to me. But you said to me, 'those are just two individuals who share my blood. Family are people who you choose, and people who choose you. People who put you first no matter the cost. You are my family Harry'

"So to everyone who is here today: thankyou for joining us, but this was just a ceremony to formalise a truth that Draco and I have known in our hearts for a very long time. He is mine, and I am his, we are family.

"I'd like to propose a toast to my husband, finally and officially: Draco Potter. Draco Potter everyone!"

Everyone stood, a sea of joyful faces, the room filling with whooping and cheering voices. Harry ignored them all as he smiled at his new husband, who had stood up close beside him and wrapped his long arm around Harry's waist.

"Merlin - Draco Potter sounds so dreadful." Draco's lip curled in mock disgust, but Harry could see the amusement and happiness in his face.

"It was your idea Draco - I was happy to become a Malfoy. Or Malfoy-Potter even"

"Whatever Harry, at least people will stop confusing me with Lucius now. I suppose I can survive bearing your name"

Harry laughed and turned to kiss Draco on his hot cheek.

"You're stuck with me now" he whispered in his husband's ear

"Good" Draco replied, and with a quick, satisfied grin, he leaned down to kiss Harry on the mouth.
