Chapter 3
Sirius was walking up with these random kids even after one of them punched Peter. Out of all of them, Peter was definitely the best one (if you know, you know). He was kind and always tried to make everyone happy.
Sirius kicked the grass under his black shoes. They were no longer as shiny and already had scuff marks on them. They looked a lot worse now than when he left his house. Unfortunately, they were the only shoes he brought to the Potter’s and they haven’t gotten around to buying new ones. Sirius noticed the blonde one gave him a look. To him, it was as if Regulus was a little older and blonde. He finally had enough of just mindlessly walking toward the castle. “So what exactly are we going to do with them? I mean I don’t know much about time turners, but I don’t think we can just send them back.” He looked at Remus mostly, but also scanned the others' faces. “I mean, can we? Maybe the headmaster will know something.”
“We can’t go to the headmaster!” The redhead screams. All of them, even his friends look at him, “I mean, well, when we do get back, we’ll get in trouble and we have to win the house cup this year!”
The blonde boy, Sirius can’t remember his name, but it’s not like that matters too much, says, “Is that honestly the only thing going through your head! We can’t lose to Slytherin!” He holds up his hands mocking the other boy. “I can’t believe you, you dense bastard. Getting in trouble is not the biggest issue right now! We fucking time traveled and we have no clue how or when we will get back.”
“Well when you put it like that, I guess I sound dumb. Can we really not get back? I mean I promised Ginny I would play chess with her later.” The red head’s cheeks were almost as red as his hair. Sirius knows this isn’t funny, but after a shitty summer, it was kind of funny. He had to hold back his laughter because if he laughed he knew that Remus would get mad.
They finally made it off the grass and were outside on the pavement. The other students didn’t seem to notice or could tell that Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Draco were very much not from this time. It was a good thing that they were all still wearing their uniforms. I mean Draco thinks about how bad it could have been if they weren’t. The marauders, well mainly Sirius and James, already don’t trust them. I mean how do you tell people that you are their future kids or are their friends kids? In Draco’s case, probably not friends. Draco couldn’t see anyone being friends with his parents who aren’t stuck up death eaters. Actually, mainly his father. Draco liked his mom, or he loved her enough. She took care of him. His father was nothing but cruel when it came to how they raised Draco. His mom was really the only family member he doesn’t truly hate, and she was probably the only one who had friends.
Ron was the first to notice the two girls sitting on one of the columns on the outside walls. Ron leaned over to Harry and said, “Look, aren't they kind of hot?” Harry gave him a look but still looked over at the girls. The taller girl had shiny blonde hair, almost as if it was white. She was writing in a pink and green notebook with a green quill. The other girl had wild dark brown, almost black hair. It was curly and clearly not very well kept. It was frizzy and puffy in a way that seemed to suit the girl. She was leaning close to the blonde girl and looking at what was being written. They were giggling at whatever it was.
Shortly after they calmed down from what was making them laugh, the darker hair girl looked up at them. She didn’t look at the kid who just showed up like they thought she would. Instead she looks at Sirius. She looked mad from what Ron could see. She was glaring at him through her bushy eyebrows. All of the sudden her left hand started shaking. She quickly noticed and used her right hand to grab it and try to stop the uncontrollable shaking. Her grabbing it got the other girl’s attention and she too looked up at them and then back to the dark haired girl. When Ron looked back at Sirius he was only staring at her still shaking hands. It was like he saw a ghost. Ron didn’t know what was happening so he looked at the others but they seemed to not notice what was going on and were still walking toward the doors. When Ron looked back at Sirius, he shoved his hands into his pockets so hard Ron thought he might have ripped the inside of them. Soon enough Sirius was speed walking away from the girls leaving Ron awkwardly standing there.
After a little embarrassing jog, Ron caught up to the other boys. That is when Harry gave him a weird look with his eyebrows moving closer to his eyes. Ron just shook him off and Harry seemed to not care after that. Harry spoke for the first time out of all of them for at least a couple minutes. “So what year is it exactly?”
That got James attention, “Oh right. It’s 1976. I mean it could have taken a long time, right. The uniforms are still the same. Well, if you were like 100 years from the future I would hope that these uncomfortable things would get updated.” He made sure his voice was quiet as he spoke so no one, besides the group of them, could have heard.
Ron couldn’t help but laugh at that matter. The uniforms were uncomfortable and they were in desperate need of an upgrade. Hermione was the only one who did the math and figured out that they were the same age as the marauders. She spoke out about it, “Okay, well we are the same age as you. We’re from 1996.” James' facial expression made it clear he was shocked. He thought it was funny to say how they were 100 years from the future, but he never thought that they were actually that far from the future.
“Oh wow, so we are like, old there. I could have like, five kids and am married. Oh my god, have you heard of me in the future?” James skips ahead of them and continues his little rant. “The great James Potter is the best wizard.” Harry freezes for a moment. Suddenly the only thing going through Harry’s mind was hearing his mother’s screams. Of course he doesn’t remember the night it happened, but he does remember when he heard it from the dementors. He quickly snapped out of it and remembered that he shouldn’t tell them about what really happens in the future.
Remus gives James a look and states, “The first thing you ask is if they know you and not, I don’t know, maybe if we win the war?” Draco scoffs at their bickering. The gold trio, plus Draco don’t say anything. It was too hard. None of them wanted to say how Voldemort was back and was stronger than ever. Harry was still rightfully upset about what happened at the ministry. He was just looking down at the floor as they walked. No one said a word, not even the ones from the past. Remus bringing up the war dampened the mood and now they were back to walking in silence.
Moments passed and the topic of the war was still fresh in everyone's mind. Sirius stopped talking and was now in front of everybody. James looked at the four from the future and spoke quietly to make sure that Sirius didn't hear. “The war is not something we should bring up around him. Stuff happened over the summer with his family and it’s still hard for him right now.” Harry was the only one, besides James, who knew why the summer had been rough. Sirius told him about his family one night and explained how he ran away to the Potter’s house. He used to tell him how one of his greatest regrets was leaving his brother in that house and not taking him when he left.
That’s what led Harry to think about Regulus. He has to be alive if this all went down just over the summer. Harry wondered how he would act. Would he be like Draco or completely different? Harry tried to ask Sirius about him, but Sirius only gave the bare minimum. The facts are: one, he was a death eater, two, they fought a lot, three, he would be dead soon enough, and four, Sirius still loves him, even after everything happened. Harry wondered if he would ever see Regulus or if he would ever get to thank him for finding the horcrux and dying for it, but he couldn’t change the future. If he did tell them anything, Harry knows Hermione would beat him half to death and would probably never speak to him again.
After another couple minutes of them just walking awkwardly, they finally make it to the headmasters office. James says the password and the stairwell opens up. All eight of them slowly walk up the steps, towards Dumbledore.
