Connie rubs her hands together, muttering to herself quietly from her place in the lobby. “Man, I hate the cold…”
”CONNIE!!!” An urgent voice startles Connie, disappearing into a plume of smoke.
Gigi waves the smoke out of her face while Connie materializes, one hand on her hip. “What event could have possibly urged you to do that?”
”Woah…You can turn invisible by accident?” Gigi’s head tilts.
”Answer my question and I’ll answer yours.” Connie crosses her arms.
Gigi bows sarcastically. “Ladies first.”
“Ugh, you suck…” Connie mumbles. “Yes. By instinct.”
Gigi rubs her sleeve-covered hands together, a mischievous look on her face. “Noted…Heh…”
”Do you want my help or not?” Connie raises an eyebrow, lowering herself down to Gigi’s face-level.
”I just lost something.” Gigi shrugs.
”Shocker…” Connie mumbles.
”But it’s important! And you’ve helped me find stuff before!” Gigi insists.
Connie pinches the area between her eyes, despite being secretly humored by the situation. “Okay…What’d you lose?”
“…A book.” Gigi mumbles.
”A book?” Connie asks for clarification, her eyebrows raising. “I don’t recall you being the reading type.”
Gigi scoffs, rolling her eyes. “You’re no help…”
”Hey, Gigi,” Connie places both of her hands on Gigi’s shoulders. “If this book is important, I’ll help you find it!”
Connie searches what she thinks is every conceivable crevice in the clutter of Gigi’s room, to no avail. “Wow, I thought this would be over with quicker. I mean, I find stuff that I lose in here a lot!”
Gigi glances to the side. “It’s not my fault.”
Connie sticks her head up from the clutter, smirking. “Gigi, that very obviously is your fault.”
Gigi crosses her arms. “Maybe stop owning cool stuff then.”
Connie chuckles. “My room has like, barely anything in it.”
”And the stuff that is in it is cool!” Gigi retorts. Connie giggles, her face turning back to the searching.
Connie groans, hovering out of Gigi’s room.
“You seem more upset about this than I do,” Gigi chuckles.
“Urgh…Leave it to you to make me search your room for 30 minutes and also be the only person who leaves sharpened pencils placed in such a way to make me leave looking like I got mauled…” Connie complains. “Who even needs that many pencils?”
”Me, clearly.” Gigi puts a hand on her chest. Connie stretches, thinking.
”Where else would you leave a book, Gigi?”
“Uhm…” Gigi thinks for a good moment, before shrugging.
Connie sighs, slouching over a little. “Do you know any toon who could have taken it?”
”No one that would have a specific interest in a book like that.”
Connie was intrigued by what that sentence meant, but moved on. “This is hard…” Connie thinks for a moment, before getting an idea. “Did Tisha ever come by?”
Gigi looks up, nodding unsurely. “Maybe…?”
“Don’t care, it’s a start!” Connie grabs Gigi’s sleeve and drags her along.
Tisha glances up from the spot she was sweeping up, waving. “Connie, Gigi.” Gigi was out of breath from keeping up with Connie’s out of the blue rush to get to here.
Connie looks at Gigi with a semi-confused expression, before looking back at Tisha. “Heyy, Tish…Did you, like- go into Gigi’s room today? Or yesterday? Or at any point?”
Tisha raises an eyebrow, confused. “Yeah…Why?
”Perfect! Did you see a book in there?” Connie leans forward excitedly.
”A book?” Tisha thinks a for a minute. “Well…There was one. I honestly thought she had taken it from Brightney, she should have it with her.”
Gigi narrows her eyes. “Hey! I got that book fairly and with consent!”
”The fact that in this circumstance those are two different aspects concerns me.” Tisha retorts.
Gigi stares at her for a second, not willing to admit being perplexed, before Connie grabs Gigi’s sleeve again. “Wanna do what we did earlier?”
“Not really.” Gigi shrugs.
“Uh…” Connie shrugs. “Powerwalk at least…?” Gigi nods, and the two begin their slightly-above-average-paced journey to the library.
Brightney is quietly organizing books in there, humming. The sound of the door opening causes her to look up. She readjusts her glasses with a friendly smile at the site of the ghost and gachapon in the doorway. “Good morning, you two!”
Connie waves, looking around at the array of books surrounding them. “Hi…You don’t happen to have a book, do you?”
”You might need to be more specific, Connie.” Brightney giggles.
“It’s a…uh…” Connie thinks, realizing she doesn’t even know what important book she’s been looking for this whole time.
Gigi shifts a little. “The uh…The one you loaned me last week? That dictionary?”
”Oh!” Brightney’s lampshade tilts a little as she steps back behind her desk to find it. “It’s funny actually, Tisha dropped it off earlier.”
Connie looks at Gigi while Brightney continues on. “We spent all that time on a dictionary?” She whispers.
”I’ll explain later, Boolynski.” Gigi whispers back, while Connie sneers at her last name.
Brightney drops a thick book into Gigi’s hands, smiling. “Y’know, it’s reassuring that you even noticed you had lost it.”
“Don’t take me for an idiot, Brightney.” Gigi grins as she walks towards the door, Connie trailing behind her. Brightney laughs again, waving goodbye.
”Have I earned my explanation?” Connie asks, lowering herself to Gigi’s head-level again.
“I’m just…lackluster, for lack of a better term, on longer words, y’know?” Gigi shrugs.
”So you have the whole dictionary on you to study…?” Connie raises an eyebrow.
”It helps more than you think, Boolynski.”
Connie chuckles and lightly nudges Gigi while the gachapon laughs. “Stop calling me that!”
“Okay, okay…” Gigi snickers.
The two converse with laughs and chuckles as they, for the first time during the day, walk slowly down the hall.
