Chapter 2
Family has always been a strange concept for me. My parents only had three children: my older brother, myself, and my younger brother. Despite this, I never truly grew up with my siblings. When we were younger, we used to play and mess around together, but everything changed after Michael's 11th birthday.
I started seeing my father less often due to his company going international and governments having concerns about security breaches along with safety concerns for civilians. Of course, this really didn't change much in our home; between me and Evan being home schooled and Michael skipping the 5th grade and going straight to the 7th, nothing ever really changed.
Then someone blew up Michael's school and shot up our house. I was thankfully unharmed, but Evan had gone into a coma and hadn't woken since Michael went missing. It left both my father and me devastated.
It had hurt being the only child in the house, waking up every day alone in a dark, empty house. The only reason I had recovered was because of a real-life superhero who called himself GearSmith.
He had gone after the people who had attacked my family and exposed another group of superpowered people who called themselves the Secret Society and stopped them from trying to feed everyone in New York to a giant space alien before he dropped off the map, and so did my father.
I, of course, moved on with my life, turning 15 and getting into both medical school and learning all I can about my father's inventions. The world had mostly moved on from Gearsmith; he had become a footnote in history, and the world moved.
Then unexpectedly a new superhero showed up, but not only did he appear out of the blue, he showed up fighting GearSmith of all people, which made me and others confused before GearSmith started escalating.
He had become a villain and people wanted answers. Answers we thought would never come but it showed up in the form of every TV in New Jersey getting hijacked.
