Embracing The Light
Summary
Years after the war, Draco and Harry are happily married, with a young son named Scorpius. However, Draco's fears of repeating his father's mistakes haunt him in a recurring nightmare. In the midst of this internal struggle, Harry becomes his anchor, reminding him that he is a loving father and has broken free from the darkness of the past.

The night had draped itself over the Malfoy Manor, and Draco lay in bed next to Harry, his breathing shallow and uneven. His mind was tangled in the past, the echoes of memories clawing their way into his dreams. Suddenly, he found himself in a chilling vision, a place where he feared to tread – the realm of his nightmares.

In the darkness of the dream, Draco watched helplessly as he stood before his young son, Scorpius. His eyes were filled with a coldness he thought he had long banished. He heard his own voice, laced with bitterness, saying cruel things he never thought himself capable of.

"You're weak, Scorpius," the dream version of Draco spat. "You'll never be the heir this family needs. You're a disgrace."

Scorpius, his innocent eyes brimming with tears, looked up at his father with a heart-wrenching vulnerability. "Please, Father, I'm trying my best," he whispered, his voice trembling.

But Draco's nightmare self remained unmoved, a cruel sneer curving his lips. "Your best is never good enough," he taunted, his words like shards of ice.

The nightmare's grip on Draco tightened, and he began to tremble in his sleep, lost in the clutches of self-doubt and past demons. However, just as the darkness threatened to consume him, a familiar warmth washed over him – a gentle hand on his shoulder and a voice that had the power to anchor him back to reality.

"Draco, wake up," Harry's voice was soft yet persistent. "You're dreaming."

Draco's eyes fluttered open, his breaths still uneven as he found himself in the reassuring presence of his husband. Harry's emerald eyes held concern.

Draco's voice wavered slightly as he replied, "I... I had a nightmare. I was terrible to Scorpius, just like my father was to me."

“You are a good father," Harry reassured him, pressing a gentle kiss on Draco's forehead. "You're breaking the cycle, Draco. You're giving Scorpius the love and support you never had, and that means everything."

Draco clung to Harry, his heart slowly settling as he took in the soothing words. "But what if I turn into him, Harry? What if I hurt Scorpius the way my father hurt me?" he confessed, his voice filled with vulnerability.

Harry gently lifted Draco's chin so their eyes met. "Because you've worked so hard to break free from the darkness, Draco," he said, his voice firm with conviction. "You've made amends, you've learned from your past, and you've embraced the light. You're nothing like Lucius."

Draco's eyes glistened with tears as he absorbed Harry's words, feeling the weight of his fears lift ever so slightly. "I just want to be the father Scorpius deserves," he admitted, his voice cracking.

"And you are," Harry affirmed, brushing away a stray tear. "You're loving, patient, and kind. Our son adores you, and he knows how much you love him. Don't let this nightmare taint the reality of who you are as a father."

Draco nodded, his heart swelling with gratitude for the unwavering support of his husband. In that moment, he realized that he wasn't alone in his fears, and that they could face whatever challenges lay ahead together.
