Marlene McKinnon was dead. Nobody knew that her body lay in ruin. As her body was carried by Death, she wept. She wept for Severus, whose soul she couldn’t save, for Harry, who wouldn't see his Aunt 'Lene anymore, and for herself, the life she'd never have.
As Death carried her to the afterlife, she watched Severus arrive and rearrange her body into a more peaceful position. He kissed her forehead before leaving. When she closed her eyes, she saw Eileen Snape, Severus’s mum. Her hand was outstretched, pain streaked in her oynx eyes.
"Oh, Marlene. Your time came too soon, my dear."
Marlene took her hand and Eileen brought her close.
"Hold tight," Eileen whispered in her ear.
Wind flew around them before they stopped and felt the sun. Marlene looked around. It was her 15th birthday. Eileen smiled sadly at her.
"Let's take a trip down memory lane, hmm dear?"
They walked across the yard to where she was looking shyly at the ground in front of Severus. She'd asked him to be her boyfriend. Slowly, he took her hand and squeezed it softly.
"Okay," he whispered. "I'll be your boyfriend."
She shot her head up and grinned brightly at him. Giggling, she jumped into his arms. He spun her around before setting her down gently. Marlene caressed his cheek before dragging him to the main party.
Tears prickled at Marlene's eyes. Eileen wrapped her arms around her before the wind took them away again. This time they arrived to a bleary day.
"Our wedding day," Marlene gasped.
They walked into the church. Lilies and orchids covered the pews, the pews that were empty. Because Severus was a spy, only Dumbledore, McGonagall, and Remus attended their wedding. Severus promised her that after the war, they would have a gigantic wedding.
Marlene smiled sadly as she watched her and Severus say their vows. Once more, Eileen wrapped her arms around her. She kissed Marlene's forehead before laying her down gently.
"Rest, my dear. I'll awaken you when Sev arrives."
