Marlene swears this could be the best day of her life. It couldn't get better.
Dorcas and her went to Hogsmeade this afternoon, the last Hogsmeade trip before the end of their school years. All those years and Marlene is still madly in love with Dorcas.
They tried to make the afternoon go as smoothly as possible, avoiding everyone and spending time with eachother. And that happens every night in Marlene's dreams. She just wants to stare at Dorcas, take all of her in, be one with her. She is the shimmering stars in Marlene's night skies, her dark skin illuminating light onto Marlene's life, when Dorcas looks at her with those inky eyes, Marlene can swear she feels her soul coming out and nestling itself into Dorcas's palms.
Marlene can't imagine the rest of her life without her.
They had spent the afternoon talking, laughing and daydreaming about their future lives, together.
They had planned out their house interior, exterior, garden flowers, the colours of the shutters on the windows, the absolute necessary library and a tiny couch beneath a window (just like Marlene always dreamed of having one). Their front porch and their backyard, where the huge swing will be. The wooden rocking chairs they've been promised to grow old on together. All of it. Marlene couldn't have fantasized about a better way to spend her day. Laughing with her lover and their blooming feelings that altered their fates with their interwined hands.
The Sun was about to set, but Marlene's feelings were not. She knew this wasn't the end.
They had decided to stay a little bit more, on Marlene's request, she wanted to try out a few candy bags she saw in the window of a small shop. Dorcas stood outside and waited for her sweetheart.
Marlene went in and the shop was illuminating a warm energy and an old woman stood at the counter.
"Oh hello there, young lady!" The woman exclaimed. Marlene found the gray-haired lady is very soft spoken and an emty place in her heart ached for that kind of motherly love. Warm and comfortable, a feeling that wraps around you and doesn't let you go, it takes up all of your space and you feel drowned in it, but the ache is still there, because the place is, after all, empty.
"Hello ma'am!" The blonde wants to be as polite as possible, there is a always a feeling inside of her when she sees elderly people, the urge to comfort them and let them know you're a kind person.
Marlene gets her bags of candy, she has bought two, the other one for Dorcas to try. She even told that fact to the lady at the counter. Marlene looked back and she could see Dorcas through the shop window, she was looking off into the distance with a small smile and Marlene could have melted off into space after that.
"Your lady friend over there. She's very beautiful. As well as you, dear. Did you want something else?" The lady says with, kind of a disassociated feel in her blue eyes. Like she was thinking of someone.
In her head, Marlene goes, yes, yes, I want to hug you and hold you, but in reality she goes:
"No, that's all ma'am. Thank you though. You are so very beautiful. I wish to age like you."
The woman smiles wildly and Marlene could cry right there. "Oh, honey, thank you. Now don't make me cry, child! Go off to your friend then. Go, go!" The woman speaks playfully and Marlene walks out of the shop with a, probably crazy looking smile, but she can't help it.
They continue walking back, both enjoying their candies. Marlene is bearing all her teeth in the little in-between-glances smiles and Dorcas is so in love.
She could watch her do this forever, over and over, round and round each time. She feels a dizzying feeling and her mind is blank, no thoughts, just Marlene. It's beautiful. Dorcas admires her. She could count all the freckles on her face. It's like someone stole all the stars from the sky and they melted into Marlene's porcelain skin, forming constellations.
They make their way back to the castle and Marlene suggests they go and hang out together in the courtyard. Dorcas thinks it's normal, but Marlene knows she's only going there because she knows about the prank.
Not any prank, the Marauders's last prank. One would think, finally! I couldn't stand them all, bunch of little trouble makers. But Marlene thinks different. These are just some of her best friends, whom she spent the majority of her life with. She's never going to be able to shake off the vacant feeling when they all split up. She can't bear losing any one of them.
The pair is stood facing eachother and just looking into eachothers eyes. Marlene is lost in the moment, so when the fireworks start lightning up the sky, she's a bit startled.
Dorcas pulls away, looking at the colourfull fireworks. Marlene is looking at her. Her eyes, in whose reflection the fireworks are seen. Her soft, downward smile and plump lips. Dorcas's beauty is a killer and Marlene has proclaimed herself the victim.
The fireworks were definitely not Remus's idea, Marlene thinks. If it were, it would be a long message filled with swear words and McGonagall would be fuming. However, this one is for sure Peter and James's work. It is an amazing message, formally "signing off, as their marauding job is now done". Peter has the tendency to be sweet and fun like that. Marlene sees a mirror in Peter. She doesn't want to lose him.
"They're astonishing!" Dorcas says slowly.
Marlene can't help but look at Dorcas instead. Focusing on her, taking all of her in.
"They are." Marlene whispers.
Dorcas looks back at her, noticing that Marlene is not paying that much attention to the bursting flames. She lets go of a feeling she's been holding in all day. And they kiss, like never before.
Mouths connected, limbs attached and letting themselves be one with another. Letting eachother explore and know every deepest part of themselves. They are ruling eachothers heart.
They're finally together. Nothing could change that.
