Chapter 4
Draco didn’t know what to think nor how to feel. He had no memory of an Olive Nott.
The fact that Olive Nott was Hermione fucking Granger sent him reeling. And the fact that his parents had signed a betrothal contract when he was a toddler with the Notts confused him. Why had his parents never brought that up? Did they think that, since she was missing and thought never to be found, it wouldn’t be worth it to mention it?
Because of his parents’ decision that he was never made aware of, he was now standing outside the hospital wing waiting for his–apparently–betrothed to improve from a curse that–apparently–should have killed her. A curse that one of his father’s ‘associates’ threw at her.
That one of her father’s associates threw at her.
The whole situation was fucked. How life was supposed to go on, Draco didn’t know. Theo’s and Draco’s fathers had been arrested, the Dark Lord would likely be furious when he finds out some of his Death Eaters got sent to Azkaban, and now he is betrothed to a girl who is actually the twin sister of his best friend instead of a mudblood.
Draco glanced at his friend. Theo was leaning against the wall, arms crossed and jaw clenched, staring at the floor.
“How are you handling this?” Draco asked.
Theo slowly looked up at him. He scoffed. “All I can think about is that I had a sister that was right under our noses the last five years and tonight she almost died, almost at the hands of our fathers.” Theo shook his head. I’m now technically head of our House since Father is in Azkaban. I’m sixteen and now have a new family member I am responsible for.”
Draco grimaced. “Not an ideal situation,” he agreed. “I’m sure Mother would be willing to help, though, so you don’t need to be totally lost and on your own, not to mention Severus and Warwick.”
“I guess.” He looked back down to the floor. “I need to go to Gringotts as soon as possible. I need to find some jewelry with protective enchantments on them, maybe something of our mother’s.” He said the last part more to himself than Draco.
They were quiet for a few minutes.
A realization crept up on Draco. “Theo…we’re forgetting something.”
Theo glanced at Draco. “What?”
“Granger is one of the most stubborn people I’ve ever met. She is going to fight this with her whole being.” Draco’s eyes widened. “How are we going to convince her of any of this; how are we even going to get her to entertain the idea of any of this being real?”
The two boys looked at each other for a few seconds.
“Well,” Theo finally said, “shit.”
