Chapter 2
Vex knocks on Keyleth’s door and steps back. It’s 6:30 AM, exactly when she said she’d be there to pick Keyleth up.
She hears a pair of footsteps running up, and the door opens to reveal Keyleth.
Vex’ahlia thinks she stops thinking for a moment. Keyleth is there, hair slightly damp, wearing an over sized shirt. She rubs her eyes blearily, staring at Vex for a moment, before smacking her head.
‘Oh- sorry Vex! I woke up late, thank you for coming, do you want to come inside?’
Act normal, Vex’ahlia. Act normal.
‘I’d love to, darling, I love your hair.’ Vex grimaces, what part of that was normal? She hadn’t meant to say it out loud, really, but Keyleth’s hair really was something. All she wanted to do was run her hands through it and give Keyleth kisses on her head.
Keyleth blushes, ‘Yeah, sorry, I just finished showering.’
Vex tries her best not to imagine Keyleth shower, and steps inside the house. Immediately, a cat pounces on her, and Keyleth is telling what Vex can only assume to be Minxie to get down, and that that is not how they treat their guests.
Minxie jumps off, reluctantly, and meows at Keyleth. Vex reaches out and allows Minxie to sniff her hand, before giving her a small pet.
‘She’s adorable, Keyleth,’ Vex pauses, turning to look at Keyleth. ‘Just like you.’
Keyleth blushes bright, and stammers something about having to go change, and rushes into another room.
Vex smiles.
Eventually, Keyleth dries her hair and gets changed, and they get settled into Vex’s car.
‘Again, Vex, thank you- really, you’re a life saver.’ Keyleth rambles as Vex drives.
‘Keyleth, it’s really no issue darling, I’m happy to drive you.’ Vex says, and turns to raise her eyebrows at Keyleth before she can thank her again.
Keyleth sighs, but a small smile has made its way to her face, and so Vex turns to face the road again. The rest of the drive goes smoothly and silently, as Keyleth prepares her slides for her class.
When they arrive, Scanlan looks at them as they get out the car, waggling his eyebrows at Vex. She shoots him a stare, and he raises his arms as if to say ‘ I’m just saying,’ but continues heading into the school building.
She sees Keyleth blush slightly, and , hmm, interesting, maybe she does have a chance.
‘Let’s go, darling. Ignore Scanlan, he’s just being an idiot.’ She says, and places a hand on Keyleth’s back.
They walk into the building together, and when they reach Vex’s classroom, Vex turns around to face Keyleth.
‘I’ll drive you home tonight alright? Meet me here at six?’
Keyleth nods, thanking Vex, before leaving to get to her own classroom.

The rest of the day goes by smoothly, and all she really thinks about is driving Keyleth home again this evening.
She is marking some papers when a knock on the door startles her. It is only 5:30 pm, so she assumes it’s a student, or another teacher.
‘Come in,’ she says, and the door opens.
Imogen, one of her students, steps in.
‘Hi Ms Vessar, I was wondering if you had time to go over a question you set us?’ She asks, bringing out a piece of paper.
Vex nods.
‘Of course,’ she stands up and pulls up a seat next to her. ‘Come here, we’ll go through it together.’
She is so engrossed in helping Imogen with her work that she almost doesn’t notice the soft knock on the door. Even the way she knocks is cute, fuck.
‘Come in,’ Vex says, again, and Keyleth enters.
Keyleth gives a little wave, looking at Vex, before her eyes settle on Imogen.
‘Hi Vex. Hi Imogen.’
‘Hi darling. I’m just helping Imogen here. We’ll be done in about ten minutes if you don’t mind waiting?’
‘That’s alright,’ Keyleth says, shooting Vex a smile, and goes to sit at one of the tables.
It is a few more minutes before Imogen truly understands the question, and Vex smiles, proud of her. Imogen’s progress has come a long way, and it would have taken her longer to understand the question a few months ago.
‘Thanks Ms Vessar, sorry for bothering you.’ Imogen says as she packs up.
‘It’s no problem, really.’ Vex replies, and Imogen leaves the classroom.
It is silent for a few minutes, before Vex and Keyleth say ‘ hi’, at the same time, and Keyleth lets out a laugh.
‘Hi, Vex.’
Vex smiles.
‘Hi, Keyleth.’ Vex says. ‘Should we?’
Keyleth nods, and they walk out the school to the parking lot, where Scanlan is, once again, somehow there. Vex raises her eyebrows at him before he can do anything, and he raises his eyebrows back at her. She knows she is going to get a text sooner or later, and wonders why she was even friends with Scanlan in the first place.
They head to Vex’s car, and the drive to Keyleth’s is filled with comfortable silence. When Keyleth leaves, she places a small kiss on Vex’s cheek, and Vex promptly forgets how to act.
‘Thanks darling.’ Thanks darling? Excuse me? ‘I’ll- I’ll see you tomorrow.’
Keyleth laughs gently, fuck, her laugh is beautiful, and tells Vex goodnight, and to drive home safe.
Vex is so fucked.
