Chapter 1 – The Prisoner
May 2012; Natasha’s POV
The battle of New York has just finished and the whole team is sitting around a round table in the S.H.I.E.L.D’s still very broken Helicarrier. Stark is engrossed in his tablet and trying to update and repair the damages incurred by his suit with the help of AI Jarvis, Thor was still arguing with Hill on whom reserve the rights to punish Loki, Banner was slouching in his chair and Clint is sitting farthest chair on the table still getting suspicious looks from rest of the agents on the helicarrier not that Natasha could blame them for their suspicion as much of the damage on the helicarrier was due to Clint.
We were all waiting for Fury to be debriefed about the battle when the door opened and Fury admitted himself in his black jeans and T-shirt and completely black outfit with a black overcoat and one-eyed black patch at 6” foot stature cuts a very intimidating figure specially as his face held no emotions.
As soon as Fury got seated and Maria left as she had overseen the repair of the helicarrier, the meeting started and everyone began giving their own account of the battle.
When we reached the discussion on how to punish the Loki, Clint again started saying “Please let me put an arrow through his eye.” Just as Fury is about reply, Thor’s booming voice cuts him off “Have care of how you speak Barton, Loki is still a prince of Asgard and is out of you Midgardians’ jurisdiction.” And Fury started complaining “But we cannot let him go unpunished either.” “You are not letting go of anyone, Loki will face trial in front of the Asgard where Allfather shall decide his punishment.”
Just as Fury was about argue again, Maria came running into the room slamming the door behind her and went directly to Fury with a serious expression her face which did not sit well with any member of the team.
Maria showed Fury something on a tablet and as soon as Fury saw it, The Avengers were greeted by a rare sight of Nicolas Joseph Fury turning death pale and looking very frightened like the demons from hell has been released into the world.
He then turned to face the avengers and I saw something like sympathy and sorrow when he turned to face me but the expression was gone as soon as it came, not surprising since Fury is a mater spy and doesn’t show his emotions to people having the perfect poker face due to years of training. So, the team was more than a little worried when they saw his frightened face as even during the invasion of New York by Loki or even when the world security council sent the nuke at the Manhattan, he did not look so worried.
Fury’s POV
Knowing that this new threat is of catastrophic level and knowing that these are the only people who might even have a chance of stopping him, I let out a sigh and decided to laid out ALL my cards on the tables instead of keeping them close to my chest like I usually do. He looked at each member of the team in the eyes and said “Agent Coulson is not dead.”
Natasha’s POV
My eyes widened at hearing what Fury said as I was not able to easily accept his death. He was my handler and the only person after Clint that I trusted in the S.H.I.E.L.D.
Clint’s POV
I was not having a good time in the helicarrier as everyone on it were still looking at me suspiciously despite my fight in the battle of New York. Fury had entered the room and meeting has just begun when Maria came rushing into the room and then Fury said something which caused my brain to short circuit, he said that my previous handler and best friend was alive.
Steve’s POV
I didn’t know how to react to the sudden news that the the great man who had given up his life to stop Loki was supposedly alive.
Banner’s POV
When Fury announced that the Coulson is alive, I was initially shocked but soon gave away to the curiosity as my scientific mind began to draw and discard theories. I was still considering theories when I looked at the small cut on my hand and I dearly hoped that my conclusions were wrong while deep inside knowing that they were the most obvious ones.
Thor’s POV
I was in the middle of the discussion with Son Of Furry about Loki’s punishment when suddenly Lady Mary came into the room and then Son Of Furry admitted that the brave Son Of Coul is still alive.
Tony’s POV
I was getting bored with waiting and started thinking about Pepper and how nice it would be to have a vacation on a beach where I can ask Pepper to show me off all of her sexy bikinis’, just as I was about think the things that Pepper and I would do the private island I heard the loud voice of Point Break arguing with Superspy and then suddenly things got weird. The redhead came rushing into the room and gave the Superspy a tablet. I tried Jarvis to hack into it but was unfortunately unable to do it. Then the Superspy made a core shocking announcement that the Coulson is dead.
Fury’s POV
I looked at the avengers after delivering this news and was unsurprised to find them dumbfounded. “But How?” I heard Romanoff whispered and turned to find Romanoff looking at me with a determined gaze. I looked around the table and found the rest of the team looking at me with the same intense gaze.
“Agent Coulson heart’s had truly stopped beating but we conducted an experiment in the most secret lab of the S.H.I.E.L.D named T.A.H.I.T.I using a drug called G-351 which is made of the blood of a Kree corpse found by S.H.I.E.L.D years ago but that blood alone proved to be too volatile and in our experiments and that blood working alone would never become a successful serum so we made a addition to it, we also added another blood sample in the serum.
It was of one of the most powerful being of the universe, a being with so powerful regenerative abilities that he can literally come back after been dead. By coincidence when serum this being’s blood sample was added, the serum became stable.
The serum was initially intended for avengers, for healing when they were fatally wounded, for bringing them back from almost the brink of death. It was deemed necessary as without the avengers the earth will become very weak and mostly defend less as you not only fight the dangers but you have also begun to be looked as symbols of hope and it was very necessary for the people to have hope. B..Bu…But”.
Hearing Fury stutter send shockwaves through the team. They have always seen him as the most organized and strict person who never broke his angry façade, seeing him like this made them realize that it was really a façade as they see the broken man inside his eyes. Romanoff and Barton were especially shocked as they have worked for S.H.I.E.L.D for decade but they have never seen Director Fury looking so broken and vulnerable.
While the rest of the team was trying to deduce what was happening and were giving Fury their sympathy, Banner and Stark were in their own zones thinking different things. Banner has not forgotten what Fury was saying about a being of almost Godly regenerative abilities and thinking about the Phase 2 program made Banner realize one very important thing that the S.H.I.E.L.D has probably not taken his blood willingly and maybe the being was capable of something more than his regenerative abilities.
Meanwhile the proclaimed Genius, Billionaire, Playboy and Philanthropist was about the tablet given to the SuperSpy and why did his Jarvis was not able to hack into it which means that it was not connected to S.H.I.E.L.D services and has no backup in S.H.I.E.L.D which is mandatory procedure for every electronics device used by any of the S.H.I.E.L.D personnel no matter even if they are the members of the World Security Council. So, for the Superspy to be using a device which is not registered with the S.H.I.E.L.D is very very heavy violation of code of conduct and Fury can actually lose his job for that. Plus, I am computer expert, no other device can stop me from viewing what I want.
Since I was not able to see the contents of the tablet when the Redhead showed it to the Superspy, I decided that after having try basic method by Jarvis, its time to up my game. I asked Jarvis to search for all the recordings on the Superspy in the S.H.I.E.L.D Databases since it was first established. I entered the database and was easily able to find the access using a secret hack code left by my old man which the only good thing happened to me due to my old man. I asked Jarvis to search the entire database for everything in it regarding Nick Fury and found out many things including that he has also a scan of his second eye into the base for emergency protocols.
But my focus was more on the videos to see if Fury ever in a close proximity of an electronics where he could have nab them. I searched millions of footage of Fury and at last found the one I was searching for.
In the footage, Fury was shown picking up a tablet from a Samsung showroom and after zooming a video 1000 times I was able to see the product serial number and with the help of the Jarvis I was able to track the carbon footprints of the tablet and it was showing a video, a very interesting video.
The video was of the Agent but he was being operated and the doctors were losing him. Somebody yells to inject him with a serum and suddenly everything changed, some scientists start coming out of where there were supposedly walls. But these are not the only changes, Agent was being moved to a machine and was injected with something blue. His line on the heart monitor went suddenly still for a moment before jerking back up to full strength.
The Agent sat up on the bed looking completely healed but there was something different about him. He was not responding properly and was not listening to doctors. Due to this, the doctors tried strapping to bed but was unable to and suddenly agent set up muttering something like to free the master and went away with a popping sound behind him but just as he was about leave all the cameras and microphones in the room went static.
Nick’s POV
As I began stutter, I realized that Stark was looking intently on his tablet watching a suspiciously familiar video. As I focused onto it, I realized that I was watching the same video and realizing that the Stark have must somehow gotten into my tablet, I addressed him in a commanding voice which promised pain if you didn’t follow through what I said “Stark if you are done watching the video, can you please show it to the rest of the team too.”
Stark may behave like a idiot sometimes but he wasn’t one and realizing Fury’s tone, he quickly decided to obey. He hologrammed the video for the rest of the team. The team watched the complete video going through various degrees of shock but they soon quickly got caught up to the Stark. As the video finished, I started addressing them again “As you all saw that the drug made Coulson alive again but there the was something we didn’t knew. The being whose blood we used altered it in a way that whoever receives it will become its slave.”
At this I started playing them a new video which was the continuation of the old one. In it the team saw Coulson suddenly appear at an old warehouse, in which Coulson typed some passwords and it revealed to a scientific lab which was empty. The team saw Coulson going at the very back of the lab where there was something like a cell. They saw Coulson fire a bullet at the lock and a figure emerged from the cell, I started addressing the team again “As you all saw Coulson freed the most the most dangerous being on the planet and biggest kept secret of the S.H.I.E.L.D. Our Unofficial Prisoner….”. Just as Fury said this the revealed a white man with messy black hair and Emerald orbs as eyes. Seeing made ROMANOFF GASP and Barton became PALE. Fury locked his eyes with the team and said the name of the person he feared the most in the world.
