Chapter 5
Eddie picked Christopher up from school the same day that Buck showed up at the house, the boy having no clue that the other man was in the same state as them. When they arrived home Buck was in the kitchen, he was baking cookies for Chris even though Eddie told him he didn’t need them.
“Why does the house smell like cookies?” Chris questions as they walk into the house, the boy taking his shoes off in front of the door. “You don’t bake.”
Eddie just shrugs his shoulders. “Maybe you should go check in the kitchen.” He suggests to the teenager, pointing down the hallway towards the kitchen.
Chris looks at Eddie, raising an eyebrow as he walks down the hall and into the kitchen, eyes widening when he spots Buck, standing in the middle of the kitchen, patiently waiting. The teenager rushes over to Buck as fast as he could, wrapping his arms around the man in a tight hug. “Buck!”
“Hey buddy.” Buck smiles and hugs him back, but it was short lived when Chris pulls away, a smile on his face.
“I didn’t know you were coming.” He says, looking between both men, raising an eyebrow at his dad in silent question. “Did you know?”
Eddie shakes his head as he walks further into the kitchen, smiling at the two of them. “Nope, he showed up earlier, said he missed us.”
Buck nods his head. “I did, and I made cookies.” He holds up a plate of chocolate chip cookies to which Chris took two right away, shoving one into his mouth. “Good?” He asks, setting the plate down, grinning when Eddie stole one.
“So good.” Chris mumbles, mouth full as he grabs another cookie before leaving the kitchen, making the two men laugh.
“He was happy to see you.” Eddie points out and leads Buck out of the kitchen and to the living room. Chris had gone to his room so the two just sat down on the couch.
Buck hums softly. “Does he know?”
“Yeah, he was the first one I told. He was okay with it surprisingly.” Eddie tells him and leans back against the couch, propping his feet up on the coffee table. “I don’t know what I would’ve done if he wasn’t okay with it.” He admits, sighing heavily. “I couldn’t choose between my kids.”
“That’s understandable.” The other man nods and looks over at Eddie. “You look tired, you should take a nap. I can figure out dinner.” He suggests.
Humming softly, Eddie tilts his head to the side to look at Buck and shrugs his shoulders. “I’m fine, I’ll sleep tonight. I just want to spend time with you.” His cheeks flush pink. “I missed you.”
“I missed you too.” Buck smiles and nods his head. “Okay, we can spend time together. What do you want to do?”
Eddie shrugs his shoulders. “I dunno.” He speaks. “I just like being in your space.” He admits and laughs softly.

Later that night after Chris went to bed, the two men sat on the couch and watched a movie, Buck was barely paying attention though, staring at Eddie pretty much the whole time. “You’re staring.” Eddie noticed, not taking his eyes off of the tv screen. He was into the movie, not wanting to miss anything.
“Sorry.” Buck mumbles and tears his gaze away from him, looking at the tv screen again.
Eddie grabs the remote and pauses the movie, laughing softly. “You don’t have to apologize Buck. Did you need something?” He asks, raising an eyebrow.
Buck just shrugs his shoulders before speaking. “No. I was just thinking about how I wanted to kiss you again.” He says nonchalantly, turning his head to look at Eddie again, the older mans cheeks flushing pink for the second time that night.
“Oh.” Eddie mumbles. “Then kiss me.” He says, and Buck complies surging forward and pressing their lips together in a soft kiss that turns heated as it goes on. Eddie pulls back, breathless. He catches his breath before speaking. “Let’s go to bed, want you.” He murmurs, standing up from the couch and holding a hand out for Buck.
Buck takes the other man’s hand and lets himself be led to Eddie’s room.
---
Buck ends up sleeping in Eddie’s bed, the two waking up wrapped around each other the next two mornings. Eddie and Buck dropped Chris off at school that morning and they were headed to Eddie’s ultrasound appointment. “I hope they can find out the gender today.” Buck says. “It’d be cool if I could be there for that appointment.”
“I hope so too.” Eddie says as he glances at Buck before turning his gaze back at the road as he drives. “I hope it’s a boy.”
“Mhmm, and you know I think it’s a girl.” Buck smiles. He wanted to reach over and take Eddie’s hand into his own but he wasn’t sure if he was allowed. They had been sharing a bed and sleeping together the past couple of nights, but he still wasn’t sure where they stand, he wasn’t sure if that was just a friend with benefits thing. He wasn’t going to bring it up though, not until Eddie did first.
Eddie nods, knowing that’s what Buck thought. He had been talking about it all day the day prior. When they arrived at the clinic the two men got out of the truck and headed into the building.
Buck was nearly shaking with excitement, he was getting to see his baby for the first time, and he was ecstatic. Eddie felt the excitement that the other man was exuding, grinning at him.
Once they were checked in and, in a room, Buck didn’t sit down, just stood next to the examination bed, towering over the other man. The doctor walked in and smiled at the two men. “Good to see you mister Diaz.” She says and pulls the ultrasound machine over, getting it ready. “And who do you have with you?”
“This is Buck, the baby’s other father. My best friend.” He says, smiling.
“Nice to meet you Buck, my name is Doctor Robbins. I’ll be doing the ultrasound today.” She says as she got started. Eddie pulled his t-shirt up, revealing his small baby bump, allowing the doctor to squirt the gel onto it. She starts the ultrasound, the picture coming up on the screen and Buck looked at it in a trance.
“Wow.” He speaks. He was looking at his baby.
“Alright, do you two want to know the sex?” She asks, glancing at the two of them.
They both nodded instantly. “Please.” They say in unison, Eddie wanted to laugh at that.
Doctor Robbins moves the wand around a bit more before looking at the two and grinning. “Congrats, it’s a girl.” She says, printing a few pictures for the both of them.
“A girl.” Buck breathes, reaching down and grabbing Eddie’s hand, squeezing it gently. He was so happy. He looked down at the man, tears In both of their eyes. “We’re having a girl.” He whispers.
