Prologue

Pain was a gun and it was tearing through Remus' life while the change occurred . His throat was a cutlass dagger to the air as a primal scream gripped the atmosphere - it shook the bones of the shack , the animalistic pit where he savaged for endless nights each month .
The mirror , a rankled piece of furniture they had put in the shack to help him come to his senses - to make him realise this condition didn't have to be real - now showed the creature beneath , cracked chalices of canine teeth were the only thing Remus could see in his reflection .
That was all he seemed to be , teeth . A beast or at best a corporeal form of ammunition that rifled through the broken remains of the shack each month .
James , Sirius , Peter , Poppy Pomphrey . He tried recalling their names in his mind , but the only sound in his head was a carnal grunt and howl , a lewd desire for destruction .
So he advanced .
And once the shack was torn to scraps like mere paper , the wolf gave a guttural howl of finality before sputtering out like the dying flame of a candle - leaving only the wick of a small teenage boy left to be relit again on the next full moon .
