So many mornings, I woke up confused
Ginny is trying her hardest. She really is. So why is she still feeling like she failed. Potions have always come easy to her, but she failed this time. Slughorn shakes his head, disappointed at her. That stings more than it should've. Ginny runs to the girls bathroom on third floor. She hears someone behind her, but she doesn't care.
She tried her hardest and failed. She just wants to make someone proud of her. Her mother already babies her because she's the only girl. She just wants to make someone proud. Anyone. Bill has his life set. Charlie helps with dragons. Percy is with the ministry. Fred and George are starting a joke shop. Ron is also trying just as hard as her.
She breaks. She's crying, ignoring Myrtle. She hears Myrtle start crying and flushes herself away. She should feel sorry, but she doesn't. She hears someone enter the bathroom, so she quickly wipes her tears away. "Ginny?" She hears the female ask. She knows the voice, but she can't quite place it.
When she looks up, she sees Hermione. Her and Hermione are close, they bonded over their relationship with their parents. Hermione is an only child, so they tend to baby her. Hermione sits by Ginny, opening her arms. Ginny falls into Hermione, crying again.
"What's wrong, love?" Hermione asks in her sweet voice. They like to jokingly flirt, and they also like to call each other pet names. Really, their whole friend group has pet names for one another. "I can't. I'm supposed to be good at potions!" She speaks during sobs. She knows Hermione gets it.
"Failing once won't be the end of it. You can still prove yourself." They don't need words to convey. They already know, so they sit there, in silence mostly, wishing to be enough.
..
Lily failed. For the first time in years, Lily has failed. She feels her heart fall. She's supposed to never fail in potions. She's trying her hardest. She wants to be enough. When Slughorn looks at Lily, he shakes his head. He's disappointed. Lily has failed him. Just like her sister. Just like Severus.
When class is done, Lily rushes to the girls bathroom on the third floor. No one goes there, because no one likes Moaning Myrtle. She enters the bathroom and breaks. Full on breaks. Sliding to the floor in tears. She just wants to be enough. She failed once and it disappointed someone. She failed her sister, she failed Severus, she failed everyone.
Myrtle doesn't stay long with Lily ignoring her. It doesn't take long for Remus to find her. It never does. Remus sits down by her without speaking. He just opens his arms for her. Lily falls into Remus shaking her head, "I failed. Slughorn was disappointed in me! I failed him!" She cries.
"You didn't fail anyone love. Everyone makes mistakes. If they think you failed them, they aren't worth it, Lils." Remus speaks softly. Lily knows he's right, but it still stings. They don't need to speak to convey, they just need to breathe in one another present.
They stay like that until Lily is done crying, staying in the silence with another. They won't speak of this. They'll keep moments like these to themselves. They always do, in the safety of one another.
…
Ginny feels exhausted. It's been a long day. She got into an argument with Harry. Their relationship is complicated at the moment. Harry finally said yes to her, after years of pinning. And now their relationship is complicated. Only three months after dating. He's obsessed with Malfoy, and his dramatics. She knows it's because of the stress of being the chosen one.
She sighs, walking down to the Black Lake. She sits by it, wondering if it's time for them to be in a relationship or not. Maybe it wasn't ever love, maybe it was lust. All she knows is it's probably best to call it quits for now, and if they're meant to be, they'll be together again in the future. Maybe she should run this idea through with her friend.
Staring at the mystery underneath the water, she feels someone sit beside her. She looks over and sees Ron. Of course her brother would choose this moment to pester her. "Gin, are you alright? Harry said you guys fought again." Or maybe not pester. Most people don't realize Ron is a good brother. He stresses over small things, but he always makes a point to be a good brother.
"Just thinking. Maybe me and Harry aren't meant to be at the moment. Maybe our destiny holds us in the future." Ginny replies, smiling sadly. Ron laughs, not meanly, but like he realized something. "You sound like Lovegood now." Ginny shakes her head, she does spend a lot of time with the girl.
"I think you two should think about dating in the future, a relationship seems to be causing you two a lot of stress right now." Ron speaks, in a brotherly fashion. Of course he's going to support their decisions, but it won't stop him from being wise. Ginny does think it's time to put their relationship on pause. "I'll speak to him tonight. Maybe if he's not obsessing over Malfoy."
"Ugh! His obsession with the bloke is getting infuriating. I think I might start having to hex him when he speaks of Malfoy! I know more about Malfoy than I should." Ron complains. He has every right too, because it's the truth. They know more about Malfoy than they should. Maybe Ginny and Harry aren't in love, but they can always be best mates.
…
Lily is tired. She groans, sitting by the Black lake. Her and James fought again. James has had this weird obsession with Sirius' younger brother, Regulus, than normal. First it started with trying to befriend the bloke, but not it's an obsession.
They've been dating for four months now. She finally said yes to his dramatics, but she doesn't think she's in love. She doesn't think James is in love either. Maybe they have love for another, but it's not the excitement they want. They could love again in the future, but right now she thinks it's best to call it quits.
She should possibly talk to a friend about this idea, to see their point of view. Staring into the mystery of the lake, she hears someone flop down beside her. She doesn't need to look to know it's Sirius. "You and James fought again, huh?"
Lily nods, "Yeah. I don't think it's our time. Maybe fate will pull us back together, but the stress of the war is wearing us all down. Especially James wanting to keep Regulus the same Regulus we knew in first year."
Sirius makes an agreement noise. They all want Regulus to stay pure. The same one they knew when they were younger. Regulus talked to them the first two years, before shutting everyone out. James has made it his goal to befriend him, and to bring him back to their side of the war.
"Maybe call it quits for now. Plus, he's obsessed with Regulus. I think he always held you both in his heart, but knowing he's losing one and fighting with the other, is doing him harm. Talk to him, and tell him that it's not working at the moment, but you two can always try again in the future." Sirius speaks, closing his eyes.
He has always been wise, especially in the sibling department. Him and Lily got close because of distant siblings. Him and Lily have created a sibling bond. Lily being younger, and Sirius being older, they fell right into their siblings' spot.
"Thank you, Sirius. Maybe he can help Regulus. He must be in a tight spot. Him and James both. I can't believe I know more about Regulus than I do your whole family." Lily laughs.
Sirius groans, "Tell me about it! I swear I know Regulus better than I know my bloodline." They spend the next few hours laughing.
