Why you?
"See you later, Caitlyn" Vi said and bowed respectfully. She gazed up at Caitlyn who was also bowing.
"Yes..." Caitlyn gave Vi a small smile. "We'll meet again." She agreed and glanced behind her. She looked at the carriage she would go into soon.
Caitlyn and Cassandra were finally leaving Vander's estate after a week of annonyed glances and akward silences between the young couple.
Ofcourse it wasn't all that bad. Caitlyn enjoyed the calming effect the contryside had on her. Caitlyn had time to read her favorite books, sit in the sun and walk around the garden as much as she wanted to.
Everything was great altough there was a one problem. Problem that just couldn't be ignored. Violet. Always there, always having something to say, always getting on Caitlyn's nerves.
---
"This is shit."
"Can't you really do anything else?" Caitlyn hissed when Vi had once again complained about Caitlyn's choise of book.
"Well, it's not my fault everything you do is boring as hell." Vi grumbled.
"And besides I don't want to hang out with you anyway. But it's not really up to me at this point" She continued.
Caitlyn exhaled deeply. "Alright then.." She marked the page she was reading and put down her book. "What do you suggest we do, if I'm so 'boring'?" Caitlyn asked and crossed her arms.
"Oh, I'm glad you asked!" Vi chuckled and jumped up from the bench they were sitting on. "Let's go" She said and took Caitlyn's hand into her own and pulled her up and away from the bench.
---
Vi and Caitlyn had spent most of the days together. Something about 'being engaged and having to spend time together.'
Caitlyn walked away and stepped into the carriage after her mother. Caitlyn sat down and sighed deeply.
The carriage started moving and the journey back to Piltover had begun. Caitlyn leaned her head against the window and looked at the beatiful countryside view. Huge fields and green meadows. Peaceful. She closed her eyes and listened to the quiet rattling from the carriage wheels. Calming.
After only few minutes of travelling Caitlyn was already half asleep. She was tired of thinking, of travelling, of worrying.
There was a one last image in Caitlyn's head before zoning out. A woman with spiky red hair and wide shoulders. Her blue eyes and wide grin.
It was the image of the woman that Caitlyn would marry in a couple months. She had to face the truth.
°°°
"All done, princess. We left your hair open like you requested." A handmaiden spoke quietly. Loud enough to pull Caitlyn out of her thoughts, once again.
"What do you think? Is the dress well fitted, princess?" Asked another maid.
Caitlyn looked at her reflection in the mirror. The wedding dress she had on was long off-shoulder dress made of white expencive silk. The upper part of the dress was tight around her torso. The neckline was low enough to show a tiny bit of cleavage, it was still very modest. The sleeves that fully covered her arms were quite loose. Tight from both ends, but loose in the middle. The dress was pretty, but a bit too tight and fancy for Caitlyn's liking. She preferred dresses that weren't too tight around her upper body. And she loved colored fabrics that had flowers printed on them. Cute and simple. That's how she liked things.
"Yes, everything is perfect. Thank you." Caitlyn smiled and with that she dismissed the maids.
She's now alone in the dressing room. Caitlyn, a mirror, a dress and all her overwhelming thoughts.
Caitlyn hugged herself tightly trying to calm her rising heartbeat. She felt nauseous, stressed and anxious. She wanted to lock herself into a room and stay there forever.
Caitlyn stepped closer to the mirror and inspected the reflection of her body and face. She judged herself. Noticing all the smallest imperfections. Why are my arms so long? Did I always have a mole there? Why are my boobs shaped like this? Is my hair too long? Is that a wrinkle?!
She was once again at the verge of tears. The tight corset she had on under the dress made breathing a lot harder. Her thoughts were spiralling. I am not good enough. She believed every single bad thought she had of herself.
All of this 'perfect princess Caitlyn' life is just an act. She might seem like a brave and confident young lady. But at the end of the day it's all fake. It's a wall that keeps out all the wrong people and barely lets anyone enter. Caitlyn felt few tear drops escaping from her eyes so she quickly wiped them away.
Caitlyn exhaled slowly. She stepped away from the fullbody mirror and sat down on the vanity chair. She looked at her reflection and started playing with her long dark blue hair.
Caitlyn wanted to braid her hair. But knowing her mother wouldn't like it, she settled on keeping it down.
"Braids are way too casual for a wedding" Cassandra had said few days prior while they were fitting on Caitlyn's dress.
Caitlyn looked at the time. She still had one hour before the walk down the aisle. She sighed, and started playing with the silver bracelet on her wrist. It was a small piece of Caitlyn's father, Tobias, that she always carried around.
Caitlyn tried to lean back in the chair. The fear of ruining the dress made it hard and uncomfortable so she gave up and left the chair with a huff.
But as soon as Caitlyn had stood up she noticed a quite familiar silhouette from the corner of her eye. She snapped her head towards the person. Caitlyn placed her hands on her hips and frowned her brows.
"What? Came to pick on me for the last time before we get married?" Caitlyn questioned with an annonyed tone.
"Nope, just bored." Vi anwered nonchalantly.
Vi leaned her body against the door frame and looked at Caitlyn with a michievous grin. Vi was wearing a neat black suit with dark brown leather boots. Her hair was brushed to the side. Vi had even bathed in different oils to smell clean.
"You look-" Vi looked at Caitlyn slowly from head to her toes. "Nice." Vi confessed.
Looking 'nice' was a huge understatement. Caitlyn looked amazing, she looked like an angel. She looked perfect. The dress hugged her waist perfectly. Her hair rested neatly on her bare shoulders. There was a midnight blue silk ribbon tied beatifully around her neck as a necklace. From Vi's point of view Caitlyn looked ethereal. But that's are just a one of the many things Vi could never say out loud.
"Well thank you, you don't look half as bad yourself." Caitlyn joked and adjusted her hair by pulling a strand of hair behind her ear.
Vi noticed the motion and how Caitlyn's hair covered her face. It was clear how uncomfortable the omega was with this hairdo.
"Need help with that?" Vi asked and gestured towards Caitlyn's hair with her finger.
Before Caitlyn could barely even register Vi's question. Vi had already walked in front of Caitlyn and started taking off the couple hairpins from her hair. Vi took a stool from the corner of the room and placed it behind Caitlyn.
"Sit down. And don't worry, I know what I'm doing." Vi assured and gestured for Caitlyn to sit down.
Caitlyn sat down and frowned her brows at Vi. Caitlyn and Vi were in front of a fullbody mirror, Caitlyn sitting on the stool and Vi standing behind her.
Caitlyn noticed Vi's hands moving to touch her hair. Vi's touch felt gentle and soft.
Vi reached for a comb from the vanity and started combing Caitlyn's long hair. Vi parted the hair into three even pieces and started braiding.
They were both silent until Vi finished. Caitlyn stared at Vi in shock trough the mirror. It was strange how someone like Vi, strong and brave, could have such gentle hands. And a talent to braid hair so beautifully.
"What? Not to your liking, princess?" Vi asked jokingly. Vi must've noticed Caitlyn's confused frown trough the mirror.
"No no. It's great. Just- Where did you learn to braid hair so well? I doubt you ever had long hair." Caitlyn stuttered out.
"I- My sister..." Vi looked down breaking the eye contact. "I used to braid her hair when we were younger." Vi said carefully. It was clear that this was a sensitive topic for Vi. Vi kept her hands on Caitlyn's hair and adjusted the braid.
Caitlyn nodded understandingly and smiled at Vi. "Ofcourse. Do you want to tell me about her, your sister?" Caitlyn asked.
"Her name is Po- Jinx. Her name is Jinx. She's smart, funny, creative and really brave." Vi pulled out few small strands off of Cait's braid to make it perfect. Vi slid her hands down the omega's neck and subconsciously caressed the skin under her hands. "She has a long blue hair, a bit like yours. And the prettiest blue eyes I've ever seen." Vi said and sighed.
Vi looked visibly upset which made Caitlyn worry. "Is- Are you okay?" She asked.
Vi looked up and instantly locked eyes with Caitlyn. Vi stayed silent for a while. She has never talked to anyone, other than her family, about Jinx. Why did she tell Caitlyn? Vi was about to answer but she was interupted by the knocking sound coming from behind her.
Cassandra was there. Standing. Looking. Staring.
Cassandra cleared her troath and looked at the pair in front of the mirror.
"Am I perhaps interupting, something?" She asked and eyed Vi suspiciously. Vi whose left hand rested on Caitlyn's shoulder and right hand on Caitlyn's neck.
Vi noticed how the queen looked at her and instantly removed her hands from Caitlyn's body. Vi laughed akwardly and smiled at Cassandra.
"No, not at all. Just wanted to see my soon to be wife." Vi said proudly and tried to convince Cassandra. Which apparently worked, because the queens piercing gaze turned from Vi towards Caitlyn.
Vi glanzed at Caitlyn who was already looking at her. "I probably should go now..."
Caitlyn nodded at that and gave Vi a warm smile.
"See you at the altar then?" Vi asked.
She took Caitlyn's hand into her own when she noticed that Caitlyn started to get up from the stool. Vi is a gentleman after all. And she had to make a good impression on Cassandra. Not because she wanted to hold Caitlyn's hand, not at all.
Caitlyn chuckled as she held onto Vi's hand, harder than she intended. Caitlyn didn't want to let go of the alpha and her calming presence. "Don't be so sure, I can still run away." She giggled at her own joke and smiled at Vi.
Vi chuckled at Caitlyn's stupid joke. Vi kept smiling as she looked at Caitlyn in the eyes. Vi took Caitlyn's other hand into her own and gave Caitlyn's hands a reassuring squeeze. Vi bid her goodbyes to Caitlyn and Cassandra before she walked away with a warm smile spread across her lips. And a light tint of red on her cheeks.
After Vi left Cassandra fully stepped into the room with a breathy gasp. Her heart was filled with happiness, proudness and love. At a moment like this Cassandra wanted to go back to the times when Caitlyn was a baby. But she couldn't, her baby was all grown up now. And getting married, she'll be the next queen. She'll have her own duties, her own home, her own family.
Cassandra's little baby daughter will be all on her own– well not all on her own. She'll have her husband after all. Oh and what a great husband will Vi be. She's brave, strong, hardworking, handsome, smart. Alltough Cassandra only knows Violet the prince of Zaun. Not Vi. Not the person she truly is.
"You look perfect, the prettiest bride I've ever seen." She complimented while she walked to stand next to Caitlyn.
Suddenly all the anxious thoughts came running back to Caitlyn's mind. She stared at her mother trough the mirror. Caitlyn felt empty, sad, scared even. It would be so hard to live without her mother. Cassandra is the only family she has ever had. Cassandra is her mother, her one and only parent. Atleast in Caitlyn's books, she doesn't know her father like she knows her mother. Her father Tobias wasn't present when Caitlyn learned to read, when Caitlyn's first thooth fell, when she shot her first goose, when she learned to ride a horse, when Caitlyn danced in heels for the first time, when Caitlyn got her period for the first time or when she got engaged without her own will.
It was always her mother, Caitlyn and Cassandra. Just the thought of not living in the same castle with her mother made Caitlyn tear up.
"Mother–" Caitlyn called out as tears filled her eyes.
Cassandra noticed Caitlyn's sad expression instantly. She didn't waste a second before pulling her daughter into a warm embrace. Cassandra often found hugging pointless. But not today. Today her one and only daughter would get married.
It took few seconds for Caitlyn to register the sudden closeness from her mother. Caitlyn wrapped her arms tightly around Cassandra's torso and let her tears flow. Somehow she felt like a child again. Just a small child crying in her mother's arms after scraping a knee when playing outside. Just a warm hug full of love. Nothing more, nothing less.
"Mom, I'm scared" She cried out and softly pressed her face against Cassandra's shoulder. "What if I'm not good enough?"
Cassandra caressed Caitlyn's head and gave it a small kiss. "Caitlyn my dear, you have nothing to worry about. You'll be a great wife. You're perfect." She reassured.
Cassandra held Caitlyn for a few minutes more before moving Caitlyn away from her body creating a small space between them. She placed her hands on Caitlyn's cheeks and wiped away her tears. Cassandra held her gaze on her daughter for a while and just smiled lovingly.
"Oh dear, your make up is a mess. Let's fix you up, we don't have much time left." Cassandra said. She was so grateful to spend these last few moments with her daughter before walking her down the aisle.
"Yeah." Caitlyn nodded and smiled warmly. She was now less scared to face the hardships of her future.
However there was one last thing on Caitlyn's mind. Something she just couldn't stop thinking about –An heir. How is she supposed to make babies with someone she barely knows?
°°°
"Ready?" Cassandra whispered and looked at Caitlyn closely. Cassandra offered Caitlyn her arm.
Caitlyn breathed in and out a couple of times. She wrapped her arm around Cassandra's.
"Yeah, I am ready." Caitlyn finally answered after a moment of silence.
The big doors in front of them opened slowly and the orchestra started playing the wedding waltz. Caitlyn took a one last breath before starting the walk down the aisle towards Vi who was already waiting at the altar.
They were standing opposite eachother. They were both smiling a little. Caitlyn and Vi said their wedding vows. And gave eachother a small peck on the lips, it was just enough to satisfy the quests.
°°°
Vi and Caitlyn stood next to eachother for most of the wedding party. They were greeted by multiple important people like royalty from other kingdoms and other remarkable people from Piltover.
The newly wed pair reseived many gifts and congratulations. And ofcourse some oddly personal questions from the older people.
"So, are you already expecting?" One of the women asked and leaned in closer to Caitlyn. "You're in luck, that one can go all night. Trust me, I know." The woman whispered and winked at Caitlyn before walking away.
Caitlyn just laughed it off akwardly. How the heck is she supposed to answer to that?
Caitlyn glanced quickly at Vi who was standing only a few meters away from her. Vi was so caught up in the converstation she was having with her friend, that she didn't even notice the staring omega.
Caitlyn was slightly shooken when Vi's friend started walking towards her. But even more shocking was Vi, who grapped her friend's arm and yanked him back to her. Shit, how is she so strong! Caitlyn thought to herself. She quickly looked away when she locked eyes with the alpha for a one millisecond.
...
"So, how many babies are you gonna make her have?" Vi's friend Mylo asked teasingly and winked at Vi.
"Can you not?" Vi responded sharply and rolled her eyes.
"We both know you want to. So how many? Eight or even ten?" Mylo continued. He was teasing Vi on purpose.
"It's none of your fucking business! Also ew fuck no."
"Come ooon, just say one number. Then I'll stop. Or should I go ask for her opinion?"
"Don't you dare-" Vi's sentence was cut short when Mylo started to walk towards Caitlyn. Fortunately Vi was quick enough to grap Mylo's arm and pull him back.
"You fucking shit." Vi hissed at Mylo and quickly glanced at Caitlyn before leaning closer to Mylo. "Four. I want four children. But one is great as long as that's what Caitlyn wants." Vi whispered and let go of Mylo's arm.
"Okay, okay. Calm down." Mylo whispered and stepped away from Vi. He lifted his arms up like he was getting arrested.
Vi just sighed and walked back to her wife.
°°°
Later that evening Vi and Caitlyn walked into their now shared bedroom together. They had both bathed and changed into night clothing in separated rooms which was quite unusual for newly wed couples. Vi entered the room first, she held the door open for Caitlyn.
Caitlyn looked around the room. It was quite spacious, big for a bedroom atleast. There was a big bed in the middle of the room. A mirror was placed near the bed. A small couch and a tea table in front of a fireplace. The big window was framed with dark purple curtains.
"Ughh, today was fucking tiring. I could sleep for days." Vi groaned as she jumped on the bed.
Vi layed on her back and rested her head on her arm. She looked at the woody bed frame above the bed. Vi felt the mattress press down lightly as Caitlyn sat down on the side of the bed stiffly.
Vi picked up Caitlyn's disstress from her smell. Vi turned her face to Caitlyn whose back was turned towards the alpha. Vi almost choked on her own saliva when she noticed what Caitlyn was doing.
Caitlyn had started taking off the white night gown she had on. Caitlyn slipped off the clothing from her right shoulder with trembling hands. Then shrugged the shirt off of her left shoulder. Caitlyn took few deep, very deep, breaths and started to undo the lace ribbon that kept the gown together.
Caitlyn froze the instant she felt Vi's hand on her bare shoulder.
"Hold on! What are you doing, Caitlyn?!" Vi shrieked and held tightly onto Caitlyn's shoulder.
Caitlyn stared at Vi with wide confused eyes. "Are- aren't we going to do it?" She asked.
"Do what? What do you mean?" Vi was equally confused.
"You know, make an heir. Isn't that what wedding nights are about?" Caitlyn whispered. Caitlyn pulled the gown back up quickly. She was getting embarrassed.
"Oh that..." Vi clears her throat before continuing. "We don't have to, no one is forcing us, you know?"
Caitlyn blinked few times. "Right..." Caitlyn turned her head away and stayed silent for a second. "But, don't you want it?" She asked.
Vi's eyes widened "No! I mean, no. Like not now. Not today. You know?" She stuttered out.
There's no denying that Vi wasn't even a bit interested in the offer. Ofcourse seeing Caitlyn slowly undressing in front of her made Vi feel things. Obviously it did, Caitlyn is the prettiest omega Vi has ever seen. And she also happens to be married to this same woman. But seeing how pained the omega is Vi just couldn't do it. Sex wouldn't feel good if only one of them wanted it.
Caitlyn hummed in response. She once again started playing with her hair. She layed down on the bed and turned to her side, her face towards Vi. "Violet?" She whispered.
Vi hummed as a response and also turned to face Caitlyn.
"Thank you."
"For what?" Vi chuckled.
"For being so-... For making me feel safe." Caitlyn said. She turned around again, now laying on her back.
Vi stayed silent for a second. "Oh. Yeah. I'm just doing my duty. You're my wife now, it's the least I can do." She said casually. Vi eyed Caitlyn and her beatiful face and body. Everything about her, to be exact.
Caitlyn nodded and continued "Thank you for respecting me, and my boundaries"
Vi stayed silent for too long for Caitlyn's liking, so she started second guessing what she had just said.
"I mean... Someone else would have had their ways with me. Just force themself on me. Like you said." She explained. Caitlyn felt her the heat creeping to her cheeks.
Vi nodded and tried to stay cool "Uh-huh, what can I say, I'm a real gentleman. Even if we're married now." She joked. And turned on her back.
"Well, thank you for being such a gentleman. I appreciate it." Caitlyn said, and smiled to herself.
Vi's face also started flushing. She faked a yawn and said. "We should get some sleep. Good night Caitlyn."
Caitlyn smiled and whispered back. "Sleep well, Violet"
They both turned their backs towards eachother. None of them could fall asleep instantly. The events of the past day filled their heads. The light mixture of pheromones calmed both of them. They both felt good. It was warm and safe. It was nice, this was nice.
°°°
The next morning Caitlyn woke up alone which was really unexpected. Caitlyn wakes up around 6 AM every morning. But she didn't think Vi would wake up even earlier than that.
Caitlyn stayed in bed awake for few minutes. Just thinking about everything that happened yesterday. And what would happen today. Maybe Vi could show me the whole castle? She wished.
Finally Caitlyn desided to get up and start her day in still almost fully unknown castle. Sure Caitlyn has visited the place multiple times before, but last night was the first time she stayed overnight. And now she'd live here for the rest of her days.
Caitlyn's morning was suprisingly peaceful. Caitlyn got dressed with the help of her personal handmaidens, she ate a filling breakfast, walked around the castle, went outside and walked in the garden. Caitlyn sat on a big bench in the garden for sometime. Just thinking. Life felt weirdly... empty. Something was missing. No someone was missing.
Soon it was already time for lunch and Vi was still nowhere to be seen. Caitlyn started growing suspicious since no one could tell her where her husband had dissapeared to. Ugh where are you, Violet? She mumbled to herself.
Caitlyn spend most of the day just doing nothing. Just killing time. What was Caitlyn waiting for though? She didn't know either. It's not like Caitlyn wanted to hang out with Vi anyway.
In the evening Caitlyn was called to have dinner. Caitlyn stood up from the couch she had been sitting on and walked into the dining room. To her surprise she had company. Vi was standing back towards Caitlyn.
Caitlyn stood firmly at the doorway. She crossed her arms and frowned. "Look who finally decided to show up." She grumpled and gave Vi a dirty look.
Vi turned around when she heard Caitlyn's voice. "Well hello..." Vi greeted and walked to Caitlyn. "Shall we enjoy our dinner." She said with a smirk on her face. Vi offered Caitlyn her hand and bowed a little.
Caitlyn looked at Vi's hand and rolled her eyes. She walked past Vi completely ignoring her. She sat down at the table and eyed Vi angrily.
Vi was left completely dumbfounded and embarrassed. She cleared her throat and walked to her seat and sat down. Vi could feel Caitlyn's piercing gaze on her. Oh, she's mad as fuck. She thought as shivers went down her back.
"Violet," Caitlyn started, making the alpha lift her gaze from the plate before her. "Where have you been?"
