Chapter 1
"You, are to return to the era you belong to. And do, what you were born to." A lady clad in green leave for her black hat and boots, said in a strict voice.
"Professor, with all due respect, what do you mean? This is the era I belong to. And I am still figuring out what I want to do, but it isn't playing along a cosplay fan." The teen finished in a fierce tone.
"That's what you think. What else would you think even? Given your upbringing."
"Hey! Don't be rude now."
"It wasn't my intention to. But you have no choice."
"Yes, I do. And I am choosing to walk away."
The lady caught her hand and pulled her back.
In the dark shadows of night, the moon shone behind the clouds. What beams of light escaped those fluffy barriers only served to create a more eerie atmosphere.
"Listen ma'am. It's not early now. I am a fan of harry potter too, but you are taking it too far. You can't just walk up strangers dressed like Professor McGonagall and expect them to play along with whatever scenario you are acting out. I need to go home now. " The girl shook her hand out of the senile lady's grip and tried to run away.
"Petrificus Totalus." She instantly froze, one of her feet still in the air mid-step and her hair stopped mid-bounce just before touching her back again.
'The Hell? What's happening? She couldn't be the real deal, right? This can't be true...'
Professor McGonagall placed her hand on her shoulder and suddenly, they were standing in what seemed to be a living room, judging by the couch and the fireplace burning brightly. The petrification spell was taken off and the girl nearly fell to the ground if not for the Professor supporting her.
"Now, I understand that this all must be very shocking and difficult to accept for you. You may take a bit to adjust yourself."
"Can you pinch me? Please?" The girl asked with gleaming eyes.
"Okay..." The Professor moved to do as requested and pinched the teen's hand.
"That hurts! It's real! Holy Shit! It's really happening! Yes! This is the best day ever!" She exclaimed and unbridled joy was visible on her face. But Minerva McGonagall had a dejected look on her face.
"It's good to see someone in such good spirits. God knows it's been a long time since I've seen anyone smile." She sighed.
That put a stop to the girl's celebrations.
"What?" She asked, puzzled.
"Truth to be told, the wizarding world of today is nothing like the Harry Potter books say. The Dark Lord haunts every corner and and every nook. No where is safe for too long. I..." She took a deep breath, " I am the only member of the Order still alive. Harry Potter was never born to begin with."
"What do you even mean?" She was completely bewildered. "And what do I have to do with it?"
"You are the last descendant of a very ancient and powerful family. If your ancestors wanted, they could have ruled the world. Both muggle and magical would have been unable to even say a word against it. But they preferred a quiet life. Many believe this to be the reason of the gradual demise of the household. As an infant, your mother was attacked. Her time turner broke and brought you here, in this era." Her voice began to crack.
"I...I have a bracelet." She was trying to tread cautiously, since nothing made sense. "There's a name on it. Rose June Rivera, is that my name?"
Minerva looked at her with hope in her eyes. She nodded in affirmation.
"Rose, you have no idea for how long we have been searching for you." She said tearfully. "I finally found you. Your mother will rest in peace now."
"Professor, this is getting harder for me to process by the second. Would you please explain it to me from the beginning?" Rose requested.
Minerva sighed and waved her hand in the air. A crack appeared there and expanded to show some sort of montage.
A woman was cradling a baby in her arms. Sounds of something crashing and shattering could be heard, but her she only held the infant more firmly and rocked it faster. She hummed a gentle song to soothe the child. The sounds began to near. She closed her eyes and tears rolled down her cheeks, into the hands of the infant trying to grab her hair.
"I am so sorry, my love, so sorry." The woman began to mutter something under her breath and laid the baby in a crib. She wrapped it in a fuzzy and warm blanket. The gate behind her was open by an inch and a dark figure could be seen behind it. But, everything stopped moving. Everything except the mother and the daughter. She fastened a necklace around her neck placed a few charms on it, to ensure that it would grow with her, as would the blanket. "June, you may not even remember me after a while, but please just remember this. You have a father who loves you very much. A godmother who adores to no end." She was casting an intricate and complex set of spells as she spoke. "And a mother," her voice broke into a sob, leaving her nearly unable to finish her sentence. "A mother who loved you so much that she was willing to do anything for you."
She took off her time turner and placed it in the locket around the baby's neck. Time started moving around them again. She paid no heed to the monstrous man who had just entered the room and shushed her daughter.
"Avada Kedavara." He whispered. A green light shot out of the tip of his wand and hit the woman's back. She smiled as she felt life drain away from her and pat the child's head one last time. The blinding flash of green subsided mere seconds later, the baby was nowhere to be seen.
Tears stained Rose's cheeks. Minerva's eyes were red too.
"Was that..." Rose began to hiccup.
"That was your mother. Here, have some water. She conjured a cup filled with water and handed it to her.
All those years in the orphanage and Rose couldn't remember a single day when someone had passed her a glass of water, not even when she was sick or choking on the awful food.
She was a bit surprised as she took the glass, expecting her to take it back at the last second. She drank the water and her hiccups stopped.
Minerva took Rose's hands into her own.
"Rose, the wizarding world is in great danger. The Dark Lord has returned and is more powerful than ever. You are the only one who can stop him. You are destined to be the one he fights last." She said desperately. "Rose, you must go back in time, to the year you would be fifteen."
A bang was heard outside the room and the walls trembled.
"There is no time!" Minerva took out her wand and muttered a string of spells. She handed a hazy orb to Rose. "Go to my past self and tell her who you are. Show her this. She will understand. Go now!"
"What the hell is going on? What do you mean?" Rose asked loudly, the walls fell and dozens of black clad witches and wizards barged in.
"Rose, I do adore you to no end." Minerva whispered as she was hit by multiple spells and her eyes fell shut. Golden light entrapped Rose and she gradually disappeared, despite her attempts to to cling to Minerva McGonagall, her godmother who adored her to no end.
