Stubborn Boy

Minerva rushed into the hospital. Not ten minutes ago, she got a phone call saying Severus was being checked in. She could only think of the possibilities. Tobias, Sirius, James, even Lily at this point.

"Poppy," she screamed. "Where is he?"

"Room 65."

Only just not running, she stood in front of the door. Slowly she opened it. There lay Severus, motionless in the bed, bruises covering his face. Minerva let out a silent gasp as Severus opened his heavy eyes.

"Minnie?"

"I'm here, Sev. Who hurt you?"

"Dad," he coughed. "Lily, too."

Minerva fumed. Severus did everything for the girl and this is how she repays him. Tobias was abusive. At one time he had loved Severus, but those days were long gone.

"I'm sorry, Severus. I will -"

Severus’s eyesrolled to the back of his head. Then he started shaking uncontrollably.

"Poppy! Help," Minerva wailed in horror. "He's having a seizure!"

Nurses and doctors rushed in, pushing Minerva out the door. She slumped against the wall and sobbed. The hospital smell clouded everything. The bright lights blinded her. She hated hospitals. Minerva didn't want Severus to die. He was the son she never had.

"God, please," she prayed. "Don’t take Severus. Please not yet. I still need him. I still need my little boy."

Her tears never subsided. When Poppy told her that they were too late, she shrunk into herself. Later, after everyone left, she went into the room. The silence seeped into her skin.

"Oh, my little boy," she whispered. "I'm so sorry, Severus."

She stayed with him until they came to take his body away.

"Goodbye, my stubborn boy."
