Detention with the Marauders

Hey guys!

Sorry it took so long, but here you go. I know it’s a bit of a shorter chapters than the others and ik I’m really late out with this, but a LOT has happened and I just haven’t had time.

But here it is and have fun reading!

“It’s not fair!” She says throwing her arms into the air, as she falls back on her brother's bed, so she’s staring at the roof.

“You really got detention the most boring way possible,” Barty laughs.

“That’s not the point, Barty!” Dorcas says. “Pandora is right, this is not fair! All she did was argue that everyone deserves respect, not just adults.”

“Exactly!” Pandora exclaims, happy that someone at least understands. She then sits up in the bed “Wait where’s my brother?” she was so caught up in her annoyance when she came in, that she didn’t even realise he wasn’t there. Both Barty and Dorcas shrug. “Nevermind, I’ll find him after. I need to be there in 15 minutes, so i should get going”

“Have fun,” Barty says, saluting her.

Dorcas just rolls her eyes at his antics, before saying “Good luck, Panda. Come to my dorm after?”

“Of course,” she promises.

Dorcas gets up and walks towards the door. Pandora is still sitting on the bed, willing herself to get up, but she’s so tired. As Dorcas reaches for the door handle, they hear Barty saying, “You’re going to abandon me?” in mock offence while clutching his chest dramatically.

"Obviously" Dorcas answers, turning around from the door, looking at him with a grin, which makes Pandora laugh, especially when Barty gasps dramatically at Dorcas’ answer.

“I really have to go now, I’ll see you guys later” Pandora tells them before she finally gets up and leaves them to their dramatic antics, her friends are really something alright. It’s way better than boring friends at least, that’s for sure. She also knows that even through all of their dramatics, they’ll always be there for her and do anything for, just as she would them.

Even though the reason  for her detention is totally unfair, she’s happy it’s at least with McGonagall, her favourite teacher.

She hears loud yelling and laughs long before she even reaches the classroom. Gosh, how many students have detention today she thinks to herself, but her confusion only grows as she enters the room.

There’s only four people and one of them is just sitting there and silently reading. How are three people so loud?

She thought she knew what loudness was ever since she met Barty, but this is Barty times three.

She shakes her head with a small laugh, before making her way towards an empty table.

She hears when they’ve noticed her, because suddenly all three stop talking and turn towards her.

“Hey, new girl” one of them says and she turns around. “We haven’t seen you before. First day in detention?” The boy that’s talking has short black hair and looks a lot like Regulus Black. She remembers that he has a brother, so that must be him, there’s no mistaking him as anyone else.

“You sound like you’re here quite a lot,” she says with a laugh.

“You bet we are” the older Black says in a overly dramatic voice “Sirius Black at your service”

“Peter Pettigrew” the blonde boy says with a smile.

“I’m James Potter and that over there is Remus Lupin” the brown skinned boy with brown messy hair, (has he ever heard of a hairbrush?) says, with a nod towards the guy who’s reading. The last boy looks up from his book when he hears his name, he has brown curly hair and scars all over his face, he’s wearing a big, extremely comfortable looking jumper.

“Nice to meet you” she says to them all “I’m Pandora Rosier”

“Are you Evan Rosiers sister, by chance?” James asks.

People always call her ‘Evan’s sister’ so she’s used to it and just nods with a smile “Yes, I am”

“Then you must know my brother, they’re dorm mates. His name is Regulus Black” Sirius exclaims excitedly.

“Oh yeah, I know him” she answers, trying not to let her annoyance show.

“Is he alright?” The concern shines clear in his eyes.

“I don’t talk to him a lot” she says honestly, but when his shoulders drop, she feels bad for him and decides to continue “but he seems happy when I’ve seen him,” it’s a lie. He’s always brooding and annoyed at everyone and everything. Happy is not the way to describe Regulus Black, that’s for sure. But she knows she wouldn’t want her brother to worry about her, so no matter how annoyed she is at Regulus, she’ll do this for him.

“So what are you here for then, Pandora?” James asks, changing the subject.

“It’s so stupid really! I didn’t even do anything wrong. I was just arguing with our professor, because she said I should respect her because she’s an adult, but then I told her it didn’t matter whether she was an adult or not and that we deserved respect too even if we’re younger,” she rambles, fastpaced. She’s always talked really fast when talking about something that annoys her or she’s passionate about. Fairness is really important in her eyes and the whole ‘respect your elders’ is everything but fair. When her rambling stops, she lets out a sigh, to cool herself down.

“Yeah okay… that’s unfair” Peter says.

“Exactly! Everyone deserves respect! Respect is something you should get because you’re a person not because of your age!”

“Hey if you don’t mind us asking, which professor was it?” the fourth boy, Remus, speaks up for the first time.

“Our DADA professor”

“Professor Raven?” James ask and Pandora just nods before he continues “doesn’t surprise me honestly”

“Don’t worry, Pandora, we’ve got it” Remus says, sending the others a look that Pandora can’t for the life of her understand what means. She decides not to ask.

“So what are you four here for?” she decides to ask instead.

“Got caught while setting up one of our legendary pranks” Sirius answers.

“Legendary?”

“Yeah, you must have heard about us. We’re the Marauders” Peter adds.

Pandora tries to recall if she’s ever heard the name before and then it hits her “you’re the group that’s been terrorising the teachers since you arrived” she says with a laugh.

“Exactly!” Sirius and James exclaims at the same time.

“Those two are the same person if you haven’t noticed.” Remus says, shaking his head with laughter.

Pandora doesn’t get it. How can they be the same person? There’s two different people there, not just one. Maybe it’s some kind of magic where one soul can be split into two bodies. though, it’s no magic she’s ever heard about.

The confusion must be clear on her face because with another small laugh Remus starts explaining “not literally. It just means they’re very alike and has almost the exact same personality”

That definitely makes a lot more sense, Pandora thinks and she says as much out loud as well.

They spend the rest of detention laughing and talking and by the end of the evening Pandora knows that she really likes this group of Gryffindors, they’re all very nice and funny. She really hopes they might become friends after this, she’d really love that.

  •

“Morning Panda, is everything alright?” Dorcas says as Pandora sits down by the slytherin table the morning after her detention.

“I’m so sorry, Cas. I know I promised to meet you last night after detention, but I was just so tired and I completely forgot.”

“It’s completely alright, I’m not blaming you.”

Pandora lets out a relieved sigh, “good, I was scared that you’d be mad at me.” Pandora hates making people angry, she has a bit of an issue with putting her own needs aside, but she genuinely did forget about her promise to meet up with Dorcas after, and she has felt horrible about it ever since she woke up this morning remembering it.

Dorcas' face turns serious and she looks at Pandora, waiting till their eyes meet before she speaks, “Panda, I know what you’re thinking… Don’t. It was really not important, I just wanted to hear how your detention went.”

“I know and I’m-”

“Don’t apologise” the black girl interrupts with a small, fond smile

She’s about to apologise again, but stops herself when she realises. “Okay,” she simply mutters instead.

“Good.” Dorcas says with a smile. “Anyways, you have defence against the dark arts today, right?”

“Yeah, why?”

“We were just told that it’s cancelled today?”

“Wait really? Why?”

“Apparently the professor didn’t feel well this morning, so she’s taking the day off.”

“Oh, okay.” Pandora answers distractedly. She has a feeling the 4 Gryffindor’s from yesterday are somehow behind this. Remus did say; ‘we’ve got it,’ she didn’t know what he meant at the time, but she thinks she understands now. A laugh bubbles out from her throat before she can stop it, she knows it must look weird, laughing right after being told a teacher is sick.

“What are you laughing at?” Dorcas asks, confusion written across her face.

“No reason,” Pandora says, waving it off with another small laugh. “No reason at all. Anyways, I’m guessing Barty and Evan don't know the class is cancelled yet.”

“Yeah, they haven’t been here.”

“Of course they haven’t. they’re never really here for breakfast, prefers sleeping in. I’ve told both of them many times before, that they shouldn’t skip breakfast, since it’s the most important meal of the day… But they never listen.”

“Barty and Evan listening to anyone? In what world.” Dorcas half jokes,

“True” she answers before an idea suddenly hits her.

“Panda?” The older girl asks, the side of her lip slightly raised and suspicion clear in her voice.

“Yeah?” Pandora answers, in an innocent sounding tone and a big grin spread across her face.

“I know that look, what are you up to?”

“Let’s joke a bit with my brother and Barty.”

A glint of mischief appears in Dorcas’ eyes, “what do you have in mind?”

“Let’s not tell them defence against dark arts is cancelled.” She suggest, the big grin still on her face, yet turned mischievous instead of innocent. “They hate school so much that it would be hilarious to see them wait for a while in an empty classroom, for a class that won’t even happen.”

“That would be hilarious.” There’s a pause before Dorcas continues as if a thought just appeared “Though… What if Regulus tells them, he’s their dorm mate after all.”

“Yeah, there’s not much we can do about that. I bet if I ask him not to te-” that’s when it dawns on her. “Oh Merlin! That’s perfect!”

Pandora knows that Dorcas’ immediately caught on to her idea, based on the smirk that forms on the older girl’s face.

“Stay here, I’ll be right back.” Pandora says quickly, as she gets up.

“But I want to see how this plays out!” Dorcas complains.

“It’ll be suspicious then. I’ll tell everything after, okay?”

“Alright…” Dorcas sighs, disappointedly. Pandora feels bad, but decides that even Dorcas will find it worth it after, so she walks over to where Regulus is sitting.

Pandora takes a seat opposite Regulus, who’s reading, yet again. Every time she sees him, he has his nose stuck in a book. She loves reading too, don’t get her wrong, but definitely not as much as him.

“What do you want?” He asks without looking up.

Pandora tries not to look excited, masking her face with a neutral look, even though it’s really difficult for her. She’s always been really bad at masking her emotions from her face, it’s always been clear what she's feeling from just a simple look at her.

“Nothing much. Just wanted to ask if you’d tell my brother and Barty about defence against the dark arts being cancelled” she shrugs.

Finally Regulus' eyes lift from the book to Pandora, his brow is raised. “And why would I do that?”

“To be nice?” Pandora says, pretending to be confused. She hates this, it feels like lying. Regulus isn’t nice and she knows that, so pretending he could be is the same as lying for her. There’s nothing Pandora values more than honesty, so she hates doing this part, but it’ll definitely be worth it to annoy her brother and see his reaction.

“I think I’ll pass,” he says, returning to his book. It doesn’t surprise Pandora one bit, which is why she asked him. It still annoys her though. Like he really doesn’t care one bit about anyone but himself.

With an annoyed eye roll, she gets up and walks back to Dorcas, “god that boy is frustrating!” She says as she sits back down in the chair.

  •

Later that day, Pandora is sitting outside, with her back against a tree, drawing.

Drawing has always been a good way for her to keep her head quiet. There’s always swirling so many thoughts in there, that it can become too much sometimes. Drawing, she’s found, is a way for her to quiet those thoughts. She doesn’t know how or why it works, she just knows that it does and she’s really grateful to have found it.

When Pandora looks up, she sees Barty walking towards her with an angry scowl on his face. Evan is walking fast right behind him, to keep up with the annoyed boy, he’s clearly laughing and Pandora instantly knows what this is about. She bites her lip to hold back the laugh she feels crawling up her throat, threatening to burst out, but that would ruin everything.

“What’s up?” She asks them when they’re in earshot.

“Don’t act like you didn’t do it on purpose, Rosier!”

“Did what?” She asks, mock confused.

“Not telling us that defence against the dark arts class was cancelled today.”

“Oops” she shrugs, “I forgot.”

“I know you. You didn’t forget. You thought it would be fun for us to sit in an empty classroom for half an hour”

“He’s exaggerating, it was only 5 minutes before we left,” Evan joins in with a laugh.

Barty turns to Evan with a betrayed look, “it was at least 15 minutes!”

Evan raises his eyebrows, “Barty.”

“10 minutes”

“Barty.”

Finally he throws his hands up in the air dramatically “Fine” he sighs, “it was 5 minutes.” Barty turns back to her “but it was 5 minutes of hell”

Pandora and Evan look at each other, they’re completely silent for two seconds before they burst out laughing, while Barty stares at them all dramatic and offended.

Salazar, she loves her friends.

“You drawing?” Evan asks as he sits down besides her, she nods and he looks at the notepad, probably to see what she’s drawing now.

It’s a snake, slithering along the grass until it reaches a dark haired boy, Regulus, and bites his leg. The boy crouches over, holding his leg in pain. The snake slithers away, turns around and then the circle repeats.

“You really scare me sometimes, remind me never to get on your bad side” Evan laughs.

With a smile, the girl turns the page in her notebook, before starting a new drawing.

Barty sits down on her other side with a huff.

Both boys watch as she silently draws, while they talk about everything and nothing. Pandora listens, though doesn’t join in. Sometimes when she’s drained, speaking becomes really hard and she prefers just silently sitting while her friends talk. It often confuses people who don’t know her well yet, because she normally talks a lot, but her brother knows and Barty is starting to really understand her just as well as Evan and Dorcas… Okay, probably not as much as them, but he’s definitely starting to understand her, that’s for sure.

Dorcas joins them not long after and the four of them spend the next few hours drawing, talking, laughing and just hanging out in the sun.

Hey, hope you liked it! Again, I’m really sorry it took so long! I’m almost done with chapter 5, so it should be out soon too, just need to finish and then edit it. Also, I still won’t have a lot of time till December, so posting will be a bit slow, hopefully faster than this tho, but slower nonetheless.

Also before you get confused about Pandora’s drawing, I see Pandora as having a bit of an insane twisted mind. She doesn’t act on it tho, so most people wouldn’t know, except for her close friends. She ONLY acts on the stuff in her mind if you fuck with or hurt any of her friends.

Ooooo and we met the Marauders! I love Pandora meeting them in detention ahaha.

Okay, I’m really bloody tired, so that’s all for today. Thanks for reading and leave a comment if you want, I love reading your comments and have an AMAZING day.

Night.
