Chapter 19
Regulus
James' singing was absolutely horrible, off-key and just. And yet he looked so fucking irresistible on a stage with a microphone and the confidence only he would be ever capable of carrying.
“Nobody can tell you
There's only one song worth singing
They may try and sell you
Cause it hangs them up
To see someone like you”
I'd never heard the song but it was beautiful.
“But you gotta make your own kind of music
Sing your own special song
Make your own kind of music
Even if nobody else sings along”
I didn't know how I was supposed to handle all these emotions I was suddenly washed over with. James was looking deep into my soul from the stage, mic to his lips, hair coloured by the stage lights, constellation freckles glistening, looking like a god and saviour and everything right in the world. Then there were the off-key words leaving his lips. Singing to me about loneliness and staying true to yourself and it was suddenly just too much. I turned my head and headed for the bar, I needed more alcohol if I was going to get through this.
“So if you cannot take my hand”
My head snapped back towards him.
“And if you must be going, I will understand”
