Invisible String
Sirius never intended for this to happen. He never intended to run away and become a knight for Apricum castle. He never intended to leave his brother behind with his parents in the land of Grimmual. He never thought that he would once again be standing in front of the doors of the palace of Ignotus. Sirius brushed off these thoughts of past intentions and looked over at James. Prince of Apricum, the boy with an ego the size of a lake but a heart to match it, his best friend. James looked absolutely dashing in his dark suit with purple trim. His eyes sparkled underneath his violet mask.
“You ready?” James asked as he placed a hand on Sirius's shoulder. Sirius looked at the doors once more, the doors he had visited so often with his parents, and then back at James.
“Yeah, let's go.” He replied and together they walked up the moonlight stairs and into the palace. As they enter, a swirl of coloured fabric meets them. Waves of masked people dance like sunlight in water. People from Ater, Apricum, Ignotus, Patriam and Isle of Lupus together under a chandelier of fire stars.
Sirius thought he also looked quite fabulous in his matching deep purple suit with black trimming and obsidian coloured mask. That was until he saw the man on the other side of the room. His soft brown hair fell gracefully over his eyes and his cerulean mask wrapped around his perfectly shaped face. His blue suit was tailored brilliantly to show off his incredible body and he held himself with a sort of casual elegance.
“Mate, Sirius, you good?” James voice interrupted Sirius’s thoughts
“Hi, yep, I’m all good-” Sirius didn’t even look at James when he responded he just kept gazing at the man. James waved his hand in front of his face and said
“Oi! Earth to Padfoot.” Sirius batted his hand away and finally broke his gaze from the man to look at James
“Prongs, you’re great with names and knowing everyone right?” Sirius asked
“Yep, Remus Lupin.”
“What?”
“I’m assuming that’s who you wanted to know the name of. The man you were staring at with big heart eyes.” James grinned as he pointed over to the man
“I was not staring at him with heart eyes! And stop pointing at him he might see you” Sirius replied as he snatched James arm down. Sirius looked over at Remus once more and started to say something but James beat him to it.
“He’s the prince, soon to be king, of the Isle of Lupus.” Sirius looked over at James and eyed him suspiciously
“How did you know I was going to ask that?”
James smiled at him showing his dazzling white teeth
“You’re more predictable than you think”
Sirius huffed, he thought to himself ‘I’m not that predictable am I? I’ve done some pretty unpredictable stuff. Like when-’ James nudged him and Sirius looked around, Remus was moving across the room towards him. Shit. He grabbed James arm and ran to the food table. It was piled high with all sorts of food and drinks but Sirius's target was the massive five tiered cake. Still dragging James with him he scooted around the table to the other side and behind the cake. He peaked around and saw Remus looking around while a Dumbeldore tried to make conversation with him. Remus absentmindedly nodded and started to walk away from Dumbeldore but he was blocked by a red haired girl in an emerald green dress. He seemed more pleased to talk to the girl than Dumbeldore and they started talking animatedly to each other. Sirius turned back to James and saw him staring at him with slight disappointment.
“What?”
James sighed and said “You can’t just run away from every single problem you have”
Sirius gasped very over dramatically “How dare you accuse me of such actions Mr James Potter!” He put his hand to his forehead and fake fainted.
“Oh I am terribly sorry Mr Sirius Black but it was not an accusation, more of an observation.” James said in a very over the top manner as he placed one hand on his chest and the other on Sirius’s shoulder.
“Oh you’re gonna pay for that.” Sirius said and he shoved James backwards.
Sirius and James often had many play fights but not so often was there a five tiered cake behind them. As James stumbled backwards his hands flew out to steady himself. Unfortunately, there was only the flimsy table and the cake behind him. Sirius watched as if in slow motion James tumbled and grabbed the table with one hand and a handful of cake with the other. “Shit, shit, shit, shit.” Sirius said under his breath and he reached forward to steady the table. The cake wobbled, began to tip, and then stabilised. Both boys in sync let out a long breath. Sirius grabbed some napkins from a nearby table and began trying to wipe the cake off James's hand.
“I couldn’t help but notice, but did this cake almost fall over just now?” A voice said from somewhere. Sirius whirled around and was suddenly face to face with Remus Lupin.
Sirius began to stutter “A-ah well yes, but you see it was just an accident we didn’t mean for it to happen-” Remus cut him off and spoke with a laugh
“Would of been funnier if it had fallen and more importantly on top of you”
James whispered so only Sirius could hear “On top of you? Sirius can only dream” Sirius punched him in the arm worried that Remus somehow heard what James said. Remus was now looking at the cake and the Jame hand size hole in the back of it.
“No one will probably notice it right?” Sirius asked, trying to make some form of conversation.
“Probably not. No one will figure out who it was if you guys move now.” Remus said as he started to walk away. Sirius strided after him and James followed while trying to hide his cake covered hand behind his back. He looked like a waiter. Sirius was just about to point this out to James when Remus turned and said to James
“There are bathrooms up the stairs to the right. I would go clean yourself up.”
“Great idea! I’ll leave you two alone” James winked at Sirius and galloped off and up the stairs.
Why the hell would James leave him alone with Remus. He doesn’t know what to say, something clever, witty, funny, literally anything that would make Remus not think he was a complete idiot.
“You know the palace of Ignotus well then?” Sirius asked. That’s such a basic and boring question ‘what is wrong with me’ Sirius thought.
“Yeah, often needed here for discussions between the lands.” Remus replied. Of course he’s a fucking prince Sirius remembered.
“Oh sorry, forgot you were royalty for a second.” Sirius said with a bark of laughter. “Would you like me to bow, Prince Lupin?” He smirked and as he began to bend Remus said
“Oh Merlin no, please I hate all that stuff. Also call me Remus.”
“I’m sorry Lord Lupin but I don’t think that will be possible.” Sirius said with a mischievous spark in his eye. Remus sighed and rolled his eyes. They both looked over at the dance floor. Sirius saw the red haired girl in the green dress dancing with a pretty dark haired girl in a stunning blue dress. Spinning gracefully through all the people they shined like mirrorballs in the middle of the dance floor. Sirius then looked back at Remus, he was already staring at Sirius. His heart skipped a beat. His coffee coloured eyes looked back at Sirius.
“Would you like to escape this madness and go outside for a minute with me Sirius?” Remus asked while not taking his eyes off him. ‘He knows my name’ Sirius thought.
“Of course Sir Lupin the gorgeous.” Sirius replied. Sirius mentally hit himself. I just called Remus Lupin gorgeous.
