Chapter 3
“Brooms Up!” the whistle blows and James flies to the quaffle. The wind blows on his face, through his hair. Minutes in a voice call out “10 points to Slytherin”.
“Ugh” James swears, throwing down his stuff in the locker room.
“James you-” a team mate looks over to James. His heart was pounding with anger as he stormed off, broom on the floor with the rest of his gear.
Students watched as James stormed past, dodging out of his way or getting pushed.
James makes him way to the corridor that houses the statue of Gregory the Smarmy. Slipping out of the castle unnoticed making his way to the hogs head. The passageway was dark and small, James didn't bother lightning up the passageway with his wand, knowing the route by heart.
He stops, his chin shaking. How, how could they do this to him, they are messing with HIS life. Hes losing games now, it their fault. It all their fault. As James’ mind races a miles a minute he sets back off, his one goal, firewhiskey.
James stubbled, his bottle of liquor sloshing in its bottle as he brings it to his lips once again. He’d made it back after curfew, but it didn't seem to stop him from walking around loudly. The hallways started to tilt and sway.
“Blood hell” He whispered under his breath as he uses the wall to help him walk. James could have really used the map right about now, seeing that if he got caught, he would be in deep shit.
“Potter?” him. James froze, every muscle in his body going taught. He knew that voice, better than he was willing to admit.
“What do you want, Black” he spat, not facing the younger boy but hiding his whiskey from his sight.
“Your?” he stops. “How much have you had to drink. James” Regulus said the last word, James, slowly, like he had just said it for the first time and was still sounding it out.
“Why does it matter to you” James slurred, he didn't want to face the other boy, to have regulus see the water marks left by loose tears.
“Because its passed lights out, your bottle is empty and.” He stops once again, walking up to him and facing him. “James, no has seen you for 4 or 5 hours.”
James looks at his bottle realizing that it is indeed, empty. “so, fucking what, Regulus” He puts the bottle under his arm and continues on his way.
Regulus looks at his back as James walks away. Shaking his head “where are you going” He starts to move towards James, grabbing his arm and holding his in place.
“Away from the likes of you” James tries to shrug out of Regulus' grip but to no avail. “Let me go, Black” Before James could even realize what was happening, Regulus put a hand over James' mouth and shoved him to the wall of a small hallway behind him. James gives a little “oof” as his back slams into the wall with a soft thud, Regulus’ own body pressed into his. Before James could struggle away or make a noise, He realized to other boys' eyes, staring right at his own. He had never noticed how Regulus grey eyes had specks of light blue and even yellow. The two boys stood like that, eyes locked for what felt like minutes before James heard a sound in the hallway, they had been occupying only seconds before. Filch grumbles passes, luckily not seeing them.
Regulus takes his hand off James' mouth slowly, and leans forward, resting his head on the wall behind James.
“Bloody hell.” James whispers, eye wide, staring at where filch just walked past.
“Come on, Lets get to back to your dorm to sleep this off” Regulus Doesn’t James’ eyes as he grabs him and steers him in the direction of the Gryffindor common room.
James noticed the way Regulus looked at the common room entrance. He doesn't ask James to open the painting with the password, he just bangs a fist on it and takes a few steps back, a very drunk James still gripping onto him for balance.
James could hear someone walking up to the painting, he thinks, hes not quite sure as he also things the room is spinning.
“What-” Sirius opens the painting and sticks his head out and stops mid-sentence. James doesn't notice how Sirius looks at him, clinging onto his younger brother.
“James.” James turns his head to Sirius, wondering how similar Sirius’ eyes are to Regulus’s own. James attempts to walk forward without holding onto the younger black, but fails miserably by stumbling over his feet, resulting in regulus and Sirius both moving forward to catch him. Sirius looks James over before calling over his shoulder to him. Moments Later Remus emerges with trousers and a half-buttoned shirt. The taller boy looks over James before shaking his head and grabbing James, Peter coming to his side to help. The two disappear with James into the common room, leaving Sirius and Regulus standing face to face in the corridor alone.
“Thanks for bringing James back here safely” Sirius doesn't quite mean Regulus eyes, but that doesn't stop Regulus from standing there, his face expressionless and eyes staring right at Sirius.
“What” Regulus starts, clearing his throat, running the tip on his tongue over his lip before continuing. “What happened, why did you let him go off and drink himself silly by himself. What if i wasn't the one to find him” Regulus spits out.
“Regulus.” Sirius this time meets Regulus eyes “James ran off after losing a match, you don't think I've been looking for him?” Sirius takes a step forward. “Me and Remus have been out there for hours, until we got caught wondering the halls, and set back here.” He looks away, shaking his head. “what about you Regulus? What where YOU doing out after dark” Sirius’ tone is laced with menace. To which the other boy just shakes his head and turns around.
“No need to fucking thank me, Sirius. For finding YOUR friend.”
Sirius doesn't walk as Regulus walks off, he just turns around, going back into the painting, and into his common room.
