Kim Namjoon and FINALLY, GODDAMN.
“Okay, so I have a list of stuff to get done today,” Namjoon said, holding the door open for Jin. “We can’t mess around.”
“Oh please, since when do you mess around when it comes to studying?” Jin laughed quietly.
“You bring out the procrastinator in me,” Namjoon said gently, and Jin blushed. Good job Namjoon, the Ravenclaw thought. Just how Dawon said it.
The two boys were going into the library to do a tutor session on this fine Sunday. After yesterday’s exciting Quidditch match and after party, both boys decided today was better than ever to try and get caught up with work. Namjoon would never admit it, but he was getting some tutoring of his own. Every Tuesday and Thursday he’d head to the seventh year Ravenclaw girl dorm, where the four ladies there would explain flirting basics. They’ve covered everything from small talk, to compliments, and they deemed Namjoon ready. They said he should make his move soon.
And he was determined to do so. Today. He liked Jin, and he was done wasting time. He wanted to kiss that boy before all hell broke loose and Death Eaters went rampant, so today was the day.
That doesn’t mean he isn’t shitting himself in fear though.
Why did Jin have to look so damn good all the time?
“Should we sit by the window, by everyone else?” Jin asked, and Namjoon snapped back to reality.
“Uh, actually I was hoping to head to the restricted section. I wanted to look into the Resurrection Stone more.”
“Sure,” Jin smiled, not thinking anything of it. Namjoon sighed a breath of relief. Step one: Get him alone. Done. Namjoon followed behind him, and they set their stuff down in the restricted section. It was much quieter over here, with no struggling students or curious teachers. Just Namjoon and Jin. Oh boy.
“This looks like a nice spot,” Jin smiled, sitting down in a chair. “Nice view, too-”
Namjoon thought Jin was talking about the window, so he didn’t catch that Jin was solely staring at him.
“So,” Jin said. “You had stuff to get done today?”
“Oh, yeah. I have to find a bit more on the Resurrection stone, finish my report on werewolf bites, write a letter to Harry Potter, and make a plan to get Jimin and Teeth back.”
And kiss you.
Namjoon chose not to add that last part.
“A letter to Harry Potter?” Jin asked while taking his potions textbook out. “What for?”
“Well, I have a theory that Headmaster Dumbledore left it to him in his will. Potter had the Cloak of Invisibility and the Elder wand at some point, so I’m going to bet he ran into the stone as well. Maybe he has a clue what happened to it.”
“Smart,” Jin hummed, opening his book and starting his work. If he would’ve looked up, he would’ve seen Namjoon’s heavy blush, which was ridiculous, because omg Namjoon he only said you were smart, not that he wanted to marry you or anything crazy. The thought of marrying Jin made Namjoon blush harder. Merlin’s beard, he was down bad.
Okay, Step two: Compliment him.
Easy enough, Jin was literally perfect in every way.
“Pretty.” Namjoon coughed out and Jin looked up.
“I’m sorry, what?”
“Oh, uh, I said you were, uh, pretty. When you read. You look nice,” Namjoon said, and let an awkward smile hit his face. Jin chuckled lightly, shaking his head.
“Thanks Joonie.” He went back to reading his book.
Okay, so maybe that step worked. Maybe.
Namjoon really couldn’t tell. Oh well. Continue to the next step.
Step three: Get closer.
Phew, that’s a tough one. Okay, he’s got this.
Namjoon stood up, and moved to a nearby shelf, looking for a book related to magical stones. He ended up finding one, and brought it back, moving his chair a tiny bit closer to Jin. As he opened his book, he realized he was nowhere near close enough. Damnit.
“What book is that?” Jin suddenly asked.
“Huh? This? Oh, I don’t know, I just grabbed something on magical rocks. Thought maybe the stone would be in there.”
“I wonder-” Jin suddenly said, standing up and searching the rows. Namjoon caught himself staring at Jin’s ass, which was looking criminally plump in his jeans, and he mentally slapped himself. When he realized he didn’t stop looking at his ass, he physically slapped himself.
“You okay over there?” Jin asked.
“All good!” Namjoon sent back two thumbs up, and Jin smiled. Close one.
Jin grabbed a book and came back, sliding his chair way closer to Namjoon's. He opened the book between them and started searching for the Resurrection Stone.
Okay, so Jin did step three. That’s okay. Maybe? Namjoon didn’t really know. The girls didn’t teach him that.
Well, the only thing to do is to move on.
Step four: say something about his eyes. Be smooth.
“It’s uh, cool you don’t need glasses,” Namjoon said very un-smoothly. He winced at his own words. Jin blinked at him and smiled out of pity, no doubt.
“Yeah. I mean, I have contacts, but, like, that’s cool too.”
“You do?”
“Yeah. I’m batshit blind without them.”
“Huh,” Namjoon said dumbly. Jin nodded and went back to his reading.
“Here,” He pointed at a section, and Namjoon read it over. There were a few bits about the stone’s history Namjoon had never read before, but nothing overly helpful. Still, there was new information, and he was grateful for everything he could get.
“I’ve never heard some of this stuff. It’s really detailed. What’s this book?” Namjoon asked, looking up to see Jin was closer.
“It’s my mom’s.”
“Oh.”
“Yep.”
“Well, uh, your mom is, uh, pretty cool.”
“I think you’re supposed to be complimenting me, not my mother.”
“Oh.”
“Namjoon.”
“Yeah?”
“That means you should compliment me.”
“Oh! Right, right,” Namjoon shook himself a little and looked at Jin’s face. It was literally perfect. Not in the cheesy, ‘I love all your flaws and quirks’ way, but in a literal, ‘your face is perfectly proportioned in every way to visually satisfy the eye and perfection in nature is incredibly rare’ kind of way. But instead of saying that, Namjoon went with the classic “Um, you’re cool.”
Jin smirked.
“That’s it? You can say anything you want to say to me, and you say, "You're cool.””
Namjoon realized just how close they were and that Jin was moving closer. That was Namjoon’s job! It was Step five: Get really close.
“I, uh, dunno what else to say.”
“Why?” Jin whispered.
“Cause you make me nervous?” Namjoon replied, realizing Jin also just did Step six: make them nervous with a pause.
“Why are you nervous?”
“I. . .” Namjoon didn’t know how much he wanted to share, but maybe this was good. He’d gotten so far just being honest and real, so maybe following the rules was out the window. Time to just be Namjoon?
“I just really like you and I don’t want to mess this up?”
He must’ve said the right thing because Jin laughed lightly, a real squeaky sort of thing. It was cute, and made Namjoon’s heart melt a little.
“Oh Joonie, you can’t mess this up-” Jin smiled.
“Why not?”
“Because I really like you too.”
It happened all so fast, Namjoon didn’t even realize he hit the final step. Step seven: Just kiss him you damn fool.
Namjoon leaned in, cupping Jin’s cheeks with his hands and pulling him into a kiss. As soon as their lips touched, both boy’s eyes shut, savoring the moment. It was chaste and sweet, something so innocent and perfect, just like Jin. It was everything Namjoon thought it would be, and when he pulled away, he couldn't help but let out a huge smile.
“Aww, your dimples!” Jin laughed, touching them with his fingers. “You’re so cute, Joon.”
“Thanks Hyung,” Namjoon smiled bashfully, lowering his head a little at the praise. He received compliments all the time, whether it was about his academics or his new found muscles, but something about being called cute in a romantic sense hit him hard. Never had he been desired like that before, and it left a gaping, bottomless hole in his chest that called to be filled with more praise. If he had to kiss Jin for forever to fill it, then he would. Anything to fill the void the Gryffindor caused.
“Can we kiss again?” Namjoon asked, and Jin’s face lit up.
“Of course, I’ve been waiting forever for that.”
“What? You have?”
“Uh, duh. Namjoon, you're mega-hot and cute and smart. How could I not want that?”
“But, Hyung, I’ve been waiting forever too.”
“Well then, what are we doing wasting time? Get over here-” Jin said, wrapping his hand around Namjoon’s neck and pulling him closer. This time they kissed and didn’t pull away anytime soon, enjoying the feeling of finally being together.
Maybe they were a couple. Maybe they weren’t. Maybe they’d kiss again in the future. Maybe they wouldn’t.
Namjoon didn’t care much at the moment.
They could do potions homework and write a letter later. For right now, they were too busy ignoring the maybes and getting around to what they waited forever for.
And it was so worth the wait, Namjoon thought.
