Park Jimin and Spectator Shenanigans
“Jimin, come on. We’re gonna be late!” Jungkook whined, tugging the Slytherin’s sleeve harder. Jimin sighed, stumbling along the path, really wishing Taehyung had come with.
“Jungkook, we’ll be fine. It doesn’t start for another fifteen minutes-”
“That’s too close! I wanna see Hoseok Hyung come out on the pitch!”
“Hyung? You barely talk to him-” Jimin grumbled, not jealous of the title. Not at all.
“I talked to him during training camp, two months ago.”
“Three months ago.”
“Uh. . . we have a class together?”
“You’re a first year, and he’s a fourth year. Which means either you’re a genius or he’s stupid. And I’m feeling more like you’re the stupid one.”
Jungkook huffed a response, choosing to tug Jimin along faster. The two boys weaved in between other students on their way to the Quidditch pitch. They were submerged in a sea of blue and yellow, charmed birds flying above them and mini gold fireworks going off every few feet. Today was Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff’s first match of the season, and it seemed like no one was missing it. Hufflepuff was expected to win with Hoseok and all, but Ravenclaw never made it easy.
Jimin rearranged his yellow scarf, courtesy of Taehyung, as they made their way towards open seats. Their box was rather high up, and right behind the Ravenclaw Keeper so Jungkook would be able to see every one of Hoseok’s points. Jimin knew he should be analyzing the game today, looking for weaknesses and strengths, but it was hard to muster any motivation when Jungkook was squirming in his seat every second. The younger boy could not sit still. He was too excited, talking faster than light about Quidditch facts and statistics.
“-And then the Italian team chose Ronaldo for their Chaser position because the-”
“Jungkook, I don’t care.”
“-because the arm to leg ratio of their players was-”
“Jungkook.”
“Was too drastic, seeing as Coltra had lost his leg to a dragon-”
“JUNGKOOK!”
Jungkook finally snapped out of his fact spewing trance, blushing embarrassed.
“Sorry Jiminie, just excited.”
Jimin looked away, pretending he didn’t like how the nickname sounded.
“It’s fine. Just reel it in.”
Jungkook nodded, going back to his own world. He played with the Hufflepuff pin on his robes, absentmindedly chewing on his lip. He was just so naive and young, Jimin thought to himself. Jungkook was pretty different from most of Jimin’s friends, but he was a nice change of pace. The past few months when he, Jungkook, and Taehyung hung out were really entertaining. It was nice to have another close friend, especially someone not from Slytherin.
Jimin loved his house, no questions about it, but sometimes it felt fake. Slytherin was the house of pride, meaning everyone around him constantly was protecting their image. No one ever did anything unique or weird in Slytherin, so at times conversation was petty and dull. Taehyung used to be Jimin’s only source of fun, he was just so random and happy, he brought an entirely new perspective on life.
Then Jungkook came along.
This starry eyed Gryffindor, whom Jimin was supposed to hate.
The centuries old grudge between the founders of each house was no joke, Gryffindors weren’t allowed in the Slytherin commons, and vice versa. Their tables were the farthest apart in the Great Hall. Jimin swore random Gryffindor students glare at him in the hallways all the time, for no real reason other than the dark green of his robes. His mother would’ve said that’s a good thing, better to be feared and respected at a distance.
But Jimin’s father would’ve said to try and make friends.
Jimin’s dad was a Hufflepuff pureblood who worked for the Ministry. He met his mother while on business in a remote village in western Romania. There, everyone was Slytherin descendants, and all part Veela. Whenever Jimin asked, his father would always say that their village was the scariest place he’d ever been. He’d tell Jimin how he was constantly watched, glared at, hated. They could basically smell the yellow robes of his childhood, and they despised him for it.
But then the love story would happen, how his dad saved his mother from falling rocks outside the village, and history was made. Jimin’s mom moved back to England with his dad, and met their interwed family of Hufflepuffs and Slytherins. She took a while getting used to it, but finally they got married and had Jimin.
Jimin was only a quarter veela, but he still wished he could go to see his mom’s home one day. She’d often laugh when he asked her that, saying he was ‘too soft’ for it, and that it wasn’t a paradise. He’d hoped that last year, when he was declared a Slytherin, that she’d let him go, but it seemed to do nothing.
So Jimin invested himself in Slytherin. He made friends with every Slytherin. He got on the Quidditch team. He made sure he excelled in Potions, and was the favorite student of the Slytherin Head teacher. He acted cold and indifferent to other houses, choosing to find friendship only where he needed it.
But it was a sad path, trying to be like his mom.
His dad saw it on his face when he came home from Christmas last year.
Jimin remembered how his father pulled him aside from family dinner, how he asked Jimin genuinely if he was okay, if he was happy. And Jimin couldn’t answer. He broke down sobbing in the hallway, and his mother and little brother had to pretend they couldn’t hear it over Christmas ham.
Jimin swore never to let it happen again.
So he meticulously planned, plotted, analyzed, and finally chose the one friend he’d allow from another house.
Taehyung was the best choice in every way.
He was muggle-born. Smart. A little ditzy, but honest and reliable. He was entertaining, and had no other friends. Maybe other students said he was weird, but Jimin found it charming. They became fast friends, and everything in Jimin’s life got better.
Jimin hadn’t really planned on becoming close to Jungkook, that just sort of happened. While Taehyung had been a completely thought out choice, the Gryffindor was by complete accident.
And now, Jimin couldn’t get rid of him.
Jungkook had inserted himself in every corner of their lives, from studying, to classes and free time, and even Quidditch. There was no escaping the terror that was Jeon Jungkook. Taehyung liked him, which meant Jimin wasn’t going to kick him out, but still. The first year could be annoying.
He was talkative, aggressive, pushy, confident, loud, good at everything, and for some reason, just didn’t need to sleep. He’d stay up later than everyone, insisting Jimin and Tae explore the castle with him after hours, even on weeknights. Then, he’d wake up the next morning before the sunrise, not tired at all. He’d go on morning walks, do some Quidditch practice, or his favorite, ‘wake up Jimin and Taehyung with some new and completely rude prank’. Somehow he always knew their common room passwords, and somehow he had an infinite supply of Weasley prank supplies. Jimin had woken up too many times with weird hair colors, boils on his face, or even missing teeth (they simply walked out of his mouth and sat under his pillow. Painless, but annoying to try and catch.) This morning, Jungkook chose to wake him with an extra potent stink bomb, ruining their dorm and surrounding halls.
It was safe to say that the Slytherins still hated Gryffindors, and that Jungkook was not helping.
Jimin sniffed his collar, smelling the stink bomb remains, and scrunched his nose in distaste. Why was he still friends with Jungkook?
“Jimin! Jimin! It’s him! Oh wow, he’s so cool! I wish I looked that cool in my Quidditch robes!” Jungkook squealed, rocking back and forth in his seat as he clapped violently for the Hufflepuff team, which had just walked on the pitch. He sat there so wide-eyed and starstruck, it was like he had never seen Quidditch before. Everything was a new experience, and he loved every minute of it.
Jimin sighed, realizing he wasn’t getting rid of Jungkook anytime soon.
“Hey, can I sit?”
Jimin turned to his left, seeing none other than Min Yoongi.
“Oh, yeah, sure-” Jimin immediately scooched over, shoving Jungkook as hard as he could.
“Ow! Jimin, quit it-”
“Shut up.” Jimin hissed, elbowing the younger. “So Yoongi Hyung! Here to watch the competition?”
Yoongi lazily scanned the pitch, not bothering to look at Jimin.
“Yeah, I guess. Hoseok and I have been working together for the past month on a few training drills and he said he was going to use them today.”
“Oh, are you two friends?” Jimin asked, not sure he ever heard about Yoongi talking to Hufflepuffs.
“. . . something like that,” Yoongi mumbled, frowning when the Ravenclaw team walked out.
Jimin bit his lip, unsure how to respond to that. He wanted Yoongi to like him, as a friend, and if possible more, but it was just too hard. It wouldn’t work for the same reason Jimin wanted it to work, Yoongi was just too Slytherin. Too cut off, too cold, too in his own world.
The Quidditch game began, and Jimin heard Seokjin’s voice call across the pitch.
“And the Quaffle is up! Immediately caught by Hufflepuff’s captain Jung Hoseok, he speeds towards Ravenclaw Keeper Jackson Wang-but no! Intercepted by a bludger from Ravenclaw Beater Lisa-”
Jimin lost interest, not really in the mood to watch Quidditch. He wished Taehyung was there with him, but he knew the Hufflepuff hated heights and would never want to be sitting up so high. Jungkook was too interested in the game to talk, and Yoongi simply wouldn’t talk, so Jimin had no one left. Bored, Jimin let his eyes wander, seeing a group of cute Ravenclaw girls sitting next to them. Shrugging, Jimin slyly pulled his scarf off and slid around Jungkook, smiling confidently.
---
“That went well,” Yoongi rolled his eyes, watching Jimin sit back down in his seat around a half hour later. Jimin smiled, a new Ravenclaw scarf around his neck along with a few blue pins.
“You know, you may not think I’m charming, but other people do.”
“I never said that.”
“You thought it.”
“Hmm,” was all Yoongi responded with, before going silent. Jimin frowned, wishing the game was over. He loved to play Quidditch, but watching it was boring to him. Nothing compared to the rush while you were on a broom.
Taking another glance at the field, Jimin watched Hoseok throw point after point past the Ravenclaw Keeper. It was almost sad, there was no way the Ravenclaws could come back. The Seekers still hadn’t found the snitch, and Jimin just wished they’d put themselves out of the misery.
“That’s another ten points for Hufflepuff, making it 310 to 20. Still no sign of the snitch, but for how this is going, Ravenclaw should just grab the snitch and end this-hahaha, I’m joking, I’m joking, sorry Headmistress, just fun and jokes here!”
Jimin smiled lightly, knowing Jin must want to be done too. Hoseok’s best friend was always the game announcer, and Jimin thought he did a good job, but Jin was known for adding in pointed comments whenever he felt something wasn’t done right.
“Wow, look at that, another ten points for Hufflepuff, so rare, so-THE SNITCH! RAVENCLAW SEEKER DOAN BLACKFORD HAS THE SNITCH!”
The stands erupted in cheers as the Ravenclaw landed, solemnly handing the snitch off. He clearly was in defeat, head hung low in shame for not catching it soon enough. The Hufflepuff seeker looked unbothered, like she didn’t care that she did nothing. Jimin guessed it didn’t matter, she probably knew that all along. As soon as Hoseok stepped on the field it didn’t matter. The Hufflepuff team was celebrating wildly, zooming around on their brooms and cheering excitedly. Jimin glanced at Yoongi and saw the faintest trace of a smile on his lips, which was more than Jimin had ever seen.
Yoongi must really, really love Quidditch.
“Wow, Jimin, that was such a good match! Shame Doan had to end it like that, but it was for the best. Just like when Spain forced Greece into a similar move in 2011 during the-”
Jimin sighed, covering his ears. He was done pretending to listen to Jungkook.
Hoseok flew over, his yellow robes billowing behind him, hugging his shoulders and waist just right. Jungkook had been right, Jimin thought. He also wished his Quidditch robes fit him that well.
“Hey guys! Thanks for coming to watch, I know you could’ve been studying seeing as break is soon, but it means a lot.”
“No problem Hyung!” Jimin responds happily, a little surprised Hoseok came over to talk to them.
“Yeah. It was nothing,” Yoongi said, crossing his arms against the cold wind. Hoseok smiled in response, reaching into his robes and pulling out a green glove.
“Here-” He tossed it to Yoongi, Jimin recognized it to be a Keeper’s glove. “You dropped this. Sorry I couldn’t get it back to you, I was busy checking it for hexes and sticky enchantments.”
“What, can’t trust a Slytherin?” Yoongi called out, a smirk on his face. Jimin sat there puzzled. A smirk? Yoongi?
“I can, I just think it’s better to be safe than sorry,” Hoseok laughed. Jimin watched in confusion as Hoseok’s face seemed to be more pink than before.
“You’ll be sorry Jung, just wait till our teams play.”
“You’ve gotta beat Ravenclaw first, then you can worry about me.”
“Worry about you? What makes you think you’ll even cross my mind?”
Hoseok smirked.
“Just a feeling. See you around Hyung.” Hoseok turned and flew away, leaving them alone in silence.
“I’m sorry, but what was that?” Jimin yelled, pointing at Yoongi. “You were TOTALLY just flirting!”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
“WHAT!? DON’T PLAY DUMB, I JUST SAT THROUGH THAT! IT WAS HELL! PDA HELL!”
“You’re delusional.”
“DELUSIONAL!” Jimin gasped, grabbing Yoongi’s arm and shaking him. “I’M the delusional one?! Excuse me? The boy with the Pureblood Slytherin fanatic parents who flirts with muggle-born Hufflepuffs just told me I’M DELUSIONAL?”
“You didn’t see anything-” Yoongi hissed, pointing a finger at Jimin. “Or else the bunny boy next to you gets it.”
“Hey! Jungkook can stand up for himself! Right Jungkook? Jungkook? oh-” Jimin turned towards his friend, but was shocked to see he wasn’t sitting with them anymore. Jungkook was a few seats away, surrounded by a large group of Hufflepuff girls who were cooing over him. He said something and every one of them giggled, making Jimin want to gag.
“Okay, well, uh, that changes nothing! You still flirted with Hoseok!”
“And?” Yoongi spat, eyes growing dark.
“Uh. . . I just-”
“What? Huh? You’re just gonna go and write a letter to my parents? Hmm? Tell a teacher? Make them do it? No. I’ll hex you thirty times before you make it to the owlery, don’t think I won’t. I don’t care if you’re a Slytherin or not, I-”
“I was just gonna say that I was gonna help you!” Jimin squeaked, afraid for his life. “I’d never write to your parents, I’m not that much of a prick! I just think you two would be cute together. I wanna help you.”
Yoongi glared at him, biting his lip in thought.
“. . . why?”
“. . . uh. . . cause I think you’re cool?”
“You just watched me flirt with another man and you’re trying to make moves on me?”
“No, no!” Jimin back tracked, groaning. “No, I mean, you’re literally the embodiment of Slytherin. I only liked you in the first place so my mom would accept me more. I thought with you around me, she’d have to think of me as a Slytherin. But I don’t need you to date me for that, I can just be your friend!”
“Friend?”
“Yeah, like you and Namjoon Hyung. Now you can come study with us!”
“. . . Yeah, no. That’s not happening.”
“Oh, yes it is!” Jimin suddenly said, pointing at Yoongi. This was his last chance, he needed Yoongi. “Or. . . or else I’ll tell Hoseok you’re in love with him!”
Yoongi was a very pale boy, but when Jimin said that, he turned completely white.
“You. . . you wouldn’t.”
“Oh YES, YES I WOULD!” Jimin giggled. “And if you even think about hexing me or Kook, I’ll make everyone knows.”
Yoongi glared harder, so much so that he almost was pouting.
“You’re evil.”
“No, I’m just making a deal. You get it. Besides, you win here. At the end of this, you and Hoseok can fly off into the sunset together while I get to be at the top of the Slytherin pyramid. You’re incredibly popular and your family has crazy respect in the wizarding world, there’s no way I won’t be seen as a real Slytherin after this.”
“You’re only doing this for the status?” Yoongi said skeptically. “You know you don’t need to-”
“Yes I do! Don’t argue with me!” Jimin said angrily, his lip sticking out in a pout. “Just make sure you come to our study group tomorrow.”
Yoongi rolled his eyes and walked away, and as he left, Jimin felt a pang of guilt. Yoongi really didn’t deserve this blackmail, it wasn’t his fault Jimin found out about Hoseok and him.
“Yoongi!” Jimin called out. Yoongi turned around just a little, already at the top of the steps to leave. “I’ll make sure to bring cookies! See you then Hyung!”
