1970 September 1, Lily was finally going to Hogwarts! Her best friend Severus had told her all about it. When she first found out about the Wizarding world she was 9 years old. Severus had shown her a "magic trick" and after that he told her everything about wizards. Severus was a half-blood Lily learned, which mend that only one parent was a wizard and the other a "muggle."
Lily couldn't wait to go to Hogwarts, she had already read her school books just incase. "Sev come! we don't want to be late" Lily said while dragging her best friend along. "Lily! slow down" he laughed. They said goodbye to their parents and entered the train. They eventually found a compartment to sit, there were already 3 other boys. "Hello! the train is pretty full can we sit here?" Lily asked with a kind smile. "Sure!" the boy with glasses and very messy hair answered. The boy with black hair glared at Severus, Lily chose to ignore it. "Im lily Evans" she stuck her hand out to the boy with the messy hair. He shook it immediately, "James Potter! This is sirius don't mind him. And that is Remus Lupin" Lily looked at the third boy, he seemed kind a bit shy. "Its nice to meet you this is Severus do you all know each other?" Lily tried to get some conversation going. "No actually! we just met are u two first years as well?" James asked while sirius was still glaring at Sev which Lily found very rude. "Yes we are i didn't expect to get a letter, i knew about Sev but i never had the thought i could be a wizard to" Lily answered, she liked James he was kind.
They talked a little bit more Remus joined in after a while and Lily was happy to make some new friends. "What house do u hope to be in?" Remus asked, this alarmed Sirius who was ignoring the conversation at first. "Im difinitely a Gryffindor!" James said "i don't really know Sev said i will probably be Ravenclaw or Gryffindor tho!" Lily told them. 'I also hope to be Ravenclaw or Gryffindor" remus said. "I'm going to be in Slytherin" Severus said. There was silence for a moment with a lot of awkward eye contact. "Anything but Slytherin" Sirius said with a mocking tone on Slytherin. "Aren't u a black?" Severus asked glaring back at Sirius. "So what" Sirius spat. "Sev? what's going on do u two know each other?" Lily asked carefully. "Watch out for him miss Evans" Sirius said mockingly. Lily frowned and stood up "come on Severus we will find somewhere else to sit." Lily said ignoring james sign.
They did find somewhere else to sit, there were 3 girls and one boy. Their names were: Mary Macdonald, Marlene Mckinnon, Frank Longbottom and Alice Fortescue. They were all very kind and didn't say a thing about Severus. Lily liked Mary the most out of them, she was kind and energetic. Marlene was similar but more adventures. Alice was sweet but very confident, Frank was caring and would be that "dad" friend. They talked a lot about Hogwarts and their expectations. Mary was also a mudblood is what they called it, a witch with non magical parents. They were told by Frank that "mudblood" could also be used as an insult so they were told to be careful. Lily was exited for the year to begin.
second year
Lily had been sorted into Gryffindor and Severus into Slytherin, they were still close but it had been hard to keep as much contact as they would have liked. Severus had made some new friends, Lily knew she should be happy for him but his new friends felt off. She had caught them bullying smaller weaker kids. The only reason they didn't do it to Lily was because she always had friends surrounding her. She had told professors multiple times about the incidents and luckily they had done something about it.
It was a sunny day and Lily decided to go on a walk, in the distance she saw somebody floating in the air with lots of people surrounding them. Lily decided to go check just in case it was bullies again. When she got closer she realized this person was Sev. She ran to them and found Potter levitating him in the air upside down. "Let him go James!" she shouted at him. And luckily james let him go. "He deserved it lily! the slimy git!" James said hopelessly. "Leave him alone! what has he ever done to you!" Lily said, "he can't even stand up for himself!" Sirius said while laughing loudly. "So what he's my-" before Lily could finish her sentence she was interrupted. "I don't need help from a filthy mudblood!" Severus shouted. Everyone was silent and Lily her heart broke into a million peaces. Her best friend called her the worst name he possibly could, only because she stood up for him. Remus walked towards her and grabbed her hand, he dragged her inside. They walked in silence all the way up to her dorm. Then Remus hugged her tight. Lily knew James and Sirius wouldn't understand only Remus would.
Then she realized something, remus hugged her like a brother she always wanted. He always was there for her like a true best friend. When was the last time Severus asked how she was doing? Remus always made sure she was okay. He always studied with her, walked her to class listened to all her girl problems. And lily did the same she hugged him when he cried about his scars. She made sure he ate enough and made sure he got enough sleep. They understood each other like no other. Lily loved remus, and Remus loved Lily. Sure Lily and Severus truly were best friends but Remus was different, very different. She knew Remus would never even when his life depended on it call her that awful name. She didn't stop crying but the tears were happy, she had the most wonderful best friend in the world. She had Rem.
fifth year
Lily sat at in the grate hall, eating her breakfast while going over her classes for the day. "Lily!" called a voice, it was Mary. She sat next to Lily their knees touching. Lily's heart skipped a beat for some reason. "Hi mary!" Lily said with a tired smile. "We have potions together remember?" Yes, Lily remembered it was her favorite subject because she was partners with Mary. "Yeah we just need to finish the last step and we should be done" Lily answered. Then their other friends joined the table, their knees still touching.
They then walked up to class Mary rambled to Lily about her new favorite artist Abba. Lily also really liked them and it was nice to talk about "muggle" things with someone. Mary was wearing red lipgloss and she had her hair out today. She looked very nice. Mary had just broken up with sirius a few months ago. They weren't that serious but Lily still had felt jealous. She couldn't really figure out why tho.
James had stopped asking her out as well. Lily was relieved, she wanted to say yes to James but the truth was she didn't like him like that. Lily knew that if she had said yes to james that eventually she would have to break up with him anyways. She sat in the back with Mary, the only reason why they were allowed there was because of Lily. She was a hardworking student and didn't fool around. The teachers liked her for that, of course people called her "teachers pet" but she couldn't seem to care. They were busy putting the last ingredient into the potion when their hands brushed against each other. Lily felt her cheeks warm up at that, Mary also stopped talking at that and quickly went to do something else. Remus smirked at Lily from the table next to theirs. What was so funny? Lily thought to herself.
Later that evening Lily and remus sat in a corner in the common room as they usually did. He moved from his armchair to the floor next to Lily. Suspecting he was going to tell her something she laid down her book. "Yes?" Lily asked curiously, 'now Lils be honest here, do u have a crush?" Remus asked with that stupid grin again. "Huh? me? i don't think so" Lily answered confused. Remus looked her in the eye, "Mary and you are close right?" he asked, Lily nodded. "And she is different from all ur other girl friends right?" He said, "Uhm yes i suppose so" Lily said taking in remus words very carefully. "Look Lily u don't have to be ashamed but i think u have a crush on Mary." He said at last. Lily stared at him, oh. Everything fell into place, her getting extra warm around Mary getting flustered easily always wanting to touch Mary. Remus chuckled and grabbed his book again apparently happy with Lily reaction. "Wow, you're okay with it?" Lily asked quickly. Remus turned back to her and whispered "don't worry im like you" and all Lily could do was hug him.
"Soooo sirius?" she asked when they pulled apart.
It was a Friday night and the Gryffindor quidditch team had won the match which mend a party. The people from other houses had already left seeing as it was past midnight. Mary and Lily were slightly tipsy seeing as the alcohol was limited. "Lils come i want to show you something" Mary giggled. She took Lily's hand and dragged her out of the common room. They went up a set of stairs and reached a window. "Wanna go out on the roof?" Mary asked smiling at the redhead who nodded in response. They climbed out of the window and settled down on the roof looking up at the stars. "Its beautiful" Lily said not sure what she was talking about, the stars or the girl beside her.
Mary looked into lily's eyes, and whispered "it is." Then they both leaned forward and their lips crashed together. Lily could taste the cheap alcohol on mary's lips. Mary rested a hand on lily's cheek while Lily covered her hand with her own. Mary pulled away first hand still on lily's cheek. "Lily i really like you" Lily her cheeks turned pink, "I really like u to" Lily smiled brightly at Mary. "Do you want to be my girlfriend? we don't have to tell anyone." Marry rushed the last bit. Lily giggled and kissed mary again, hopefully Mary got the message.
they laid side by side on the roof looking at the stars, while holding hands. "I told Marlene about my crush turns out she's down bad for some Slytherin girl' Mary turned to face Lily. "Really? Remus made me realize i liked u to be honest" Lily said smiling at her girlfriend. Mary kissed Lily's cheek, "i will never get tired of this" She whispered.
Eventually she found out a lot of her friends were "like them" Remus and Sirius were painfully obvious pining over each other. After James found out about mary and lily he had come to lily's dorm and he told her about his crush on Regulus Black. Sirius brother apparently. He was down bad to say the least, Marlene had a crush on some Dorcas girl. And so the list went on. She was happy all her friends supported her, except for Snape. But she wasn't friends with him anymore. He was an asshole now and Lily knew she had made the right choice to leave him in the past.
seventh year
It was the last year of school and maybe the best one yet. Lily and her friends were closer then ever, She Mary Marlene and Alice. They spend almost every minute together and every minute was worth it. Last summer they had gone camping, Frank Peter and Dorcas had joined in. Frank and Dorcas for obvious reasons and Pete just for fun. It had been the best summer of lily's life. She had introduced Mary to petunia. She and Petunia were alright again, and petunia liked mary. They had tea together and Mary was "approved" by Lily's older sister even tho it did't really matter. They only had a few more weeks of school. Of course they were informed of the war, and told to help fight if they could. Lily and all her friends planned to join Dumbledore's little army after they graduated. They didn't know much about the war, just that there was a "dark lord" whose name must not be spoken out loud. And the "death eaters" the followers of the dark lord. A few of them are suspected to be in Hogwarts. They just tried to make their last year as good as they could.
1981 October
it was three years after they graduated, Lily had married James fucking Potter. If u told this to lily in seventh year she would have laughed in you're face. But just after graduation Lily and Mary had broken up. Regulus, james lover had died at the age of 18. James was miserable at the time, but with the help of all his friends he got over it. And now they were married and Lily had a child in her arms. Mary had broken up with her because of her mother, who had threatend her. Lily had been heart broken, but eventually she did gain feelings for james. Yes okay they weren't the same as for Mary but something was definitely there.
They had indeed joined the army, there were a lot of scary times. Remus went on many terrifying missions to the werewolf's. Lily had found out in seventh year (on accident). They had drifted a bit apart since they joined, they didn't see each other as often as they used to. Just a couple months ago Marlene was murdered by death eaters. Everybody was shocked by her death. The brave energetic kindhearted Marlene was dead. Her death had hit Mary the hardest but Alice and Lily weren't much better. They weren't complete without Marlene and they never would be again. They lost a lot in this war but they also gained. Lily had her first son, Harry Potter. He looked a lot like james but everyone told them he had lily's eyes. She loved Harry with all her heart she didn't know she could even love something this much.
Severus had also joined the Order of the phoenix is what they called it. They had found out he was a death eater, and Dumbledore used him as a spy. Nobody fully trusted Snape but for the sake of the wizarding world they worked with him to say the least. It was hard for Lily to see her friend after all those years finally choosing the good side, she hoped he would stay on that side. Sadly there was a traitor in the order. that had been clear for ages since the death eaters kept finding them. Nobody had any idea of who it was, of course people suspected Snape but dumbledore trusted him most. Lily was certain it was none of her friends, it just couldn't be she would have known.
October 31
Lily looked down at baby Harry, music played softly in the background. It was a very rainy fall night. James was busy in the other room. They were hiding from the world. They were hiding to keep Harry safe, they were trying to get their child away from you know who. He was after their child so they chose to hide away in Godrics hollow. Lily hummed softly to the music, then somebody knocked on the door down stairs. Lily froze up, they were told not to open the door to anybody who just knocked. James came out of the other room just as scared as lily. Lily's eyes begain to water. "james.." she whispered. She could see the tears in his eyes, he looked at harry and then headed down the stairs. The tears started rolling down Lily's cheaks her heart ached. The door slowly opened and it felt like what happened next took hours, maybe days. "Lily! bring Harry to safety!" James screamed. Lily caught a glimpse of his face. Then a green flash, then somebody fell to the floor. It was James, James Potter was dead. Lily rushed to little Harry and begged for her dear life and the one of her son. Somebody walked up the stairs, Lily turned around and saw.
Peter Pettigrew
Peter, one of james best mates. One of Lily's closest friends was standing, wand raised black robes a cold look on his face. "Peter.." Lily sobbed out. "N-n-no please.." she cried. For a moment she saw, just for one second the real peter behind the mask. His eyes were glossy and wet and he trembled a little bit. Then the cold look was back. Lily fell to the floor, baby Harry started crying behind her. "im sorry Lils, forgive me" he said. Lily didn't know this man who stood in front of her. This was not her Peter Pettigrew. She looked him in the eye but only silence followed. And another green flash, Lily fell to the ground right before her son. Her baby cried just wanting his mommy to hold him again.
That night the world changed.
Peter did not succeed in murdering Harry Potter. He had only killed his best friends. When mary heard the news she had screamed in pain. This pain she had never felt before, her best friend her love was dead and she was there all alone. Only weeks later Alice was tortured by death eaters. She would never be herself again. Mary dreamed of Lily every night and she couldn't stand it anymore. That night she obliviated herself. She took all her friends out of her memories. All the moments, all the memories were gone. Remus was fighting to survive. He had nothing left, nobody was there. He blamed it on dumbledore, that man had taken his happiness. He was mad at sirius, why? why? he needed to know. When he found out Mary had forgotten him he was heartbroken. He had thought about doing the same but he couldn't. At least he had those memories. Studying with Lily, oh how he missed her smile and bright green eyes. Lily was his sister and now she was gone. Watching james fly on his broom having the time of his life, james really was the sun. He was bright and caring. Remus dreamed of being like James potter one day. Then he was holding hands with Sirius. Oh how he missed Sirius Black. He told people he didn't miss him but who was he lying to? only himself. Sirius was his other half, as cheesy as that sounded. But he couldn't think of sirius in that way ever again. How could he? Now he was playing chess with Pete. Pete was that calm funny friend, he would listen for hours and know exactly what u needed. Peter was always the least popular one of the four but he was and will always be a true marauder. And then he was screaming to david bowie with Mary. Mary was the girl who checked up on you and didn't judge. Mary was an inspiration to everybody. She put others over herself and if she could she would have traded her life in for lily's. Remus didn't blame mary for forgetting, he knew how much she loved Lily and he knew Lily felt the same. He knew how Lily missed Mary to the last day she lived. He knew how she pretended James was her number one but he knew the truth. Then theres alice and frank. They were that power couple who everybody adored. U could always knock on their door and they would be so happy to let u in. They made sure u felt at home and safe. They didn't deserve what happened to them, remus had visited them but it was miserable to see his two good friends in that state.
Remus had to survive. For harry, for the wizarding world. For james, for Lily. For little Neville who would never really know his parents. For all the kids who would be recruited in the next war. He had to survive and he was going to make it.
And in the end, he would see his friends again. He would hug them and it would have all been worth it. Lily and james would be proud of him.
