Chapter 1

It was a rainy day. Remus could hear the soft pattering of water on the window beside his desk where he was reading a book. He looked out. Oh, of course. Nothing stopped the Great James Potter playing Quidditch. Rain, hail, a storm. No, nothing. There he was. As quick as ever, manoeuvring up and down and side to side on his broom. And there was McKinnon beside him. She trained almost just as hard as James himself. And Remus thought it paid off well. Of course, he never quite understood the crazy broom game, but he could sense talent when he saw it. James definitely had it. So did Marlene. And so did Sirius Black.

Sirius wasn’t at the pitch that day with James. For the first time in forever, he was in the library. When Sirius told Remus he was going off to study, Remus practically fell out of his chair. In all of his six years of knowing his best friend, (and very secret and embarrassing crush) not once had Sirius went of to the library to study. But alas, exams were soon, and maybe even the most perfect people also needed extra help.

Remus couldn’t tell you how long he sat there, staring outside the window, watching two small figures fly around on the Quidditch pitch. But he finally got out of his trance when a person walked into the Gryffindor common room.

Ben Copper.

Remus’ most recent ex. Since he came out a few months ago, twice as many people were trampling over themselves to try and ask out Remus. And honestly, Remus couldn’t care less. But there was something about the way Ben Copper looked at him, and spoke to him, that made Remus say yes.

The night Ben asked Remus out, was a surprise to all the Marauders. They have all accepted the countless people coming up to Remus in the middle of their conversation to ask him out, and they have all accepted Remus not caring about them. So they got quite the shock when Remus told them he was going out with Ben Copper.

Ben Copper was the Gryffindor’s Quidditch team’s seeker. And he was quite a good one, too. Remus never thought Ben would be interested in him. Quite frankly, Remus never thought anyone would be interested in him. Even more so before he came out.

But he had to snap out of his thoughts as Ben walked over to Remus, and sat across from him.

“How long are you planning on ignoring me?” Ben demanded.

Remus honestly didn’t know how to respond, so he just focused on his book again, which looking back, could’ve only angered Ben.

The truth was, Remus was still hurting. He had decided to break things off between him and Ben because he realised he was getting too close. If their relationship had gone further, he’d have to tell Ben about his monthly problem. He couldn’t pretend to have the flu every full moon for the rest of his life. He knew he had to end it.

It hurt bad. Ben was a good guy. He never did anything wrong. He treated Remus nicely. And it hurt even more that Remus couldn’t return the favour.

“Alright fine.” Ben’s voice brought Remus back to the present. “Be a child about all this. I just want to know why you broke up with me. Did I do something? Say something?”

“No, no.” Remus finally spoke. “It had nothing to do with you.”

“Then why?” Ben was almost pleading.

This was it. There was no way out. Remus couldn’t possibly think of an excuse this quick. When suddenly, a certain boy with porcelain white skin, and long black hair came through the portrait.

“Because I’m dating Sirius!” Remus had blurted out. Except, he ended up yelling it.

Everyone in the common room fell silent. Sirius stopped dead in his tracks. Ben’s mouth dropped open. Then, slowly, time seemed to start back again. And Sirius came to his senses.

“Remus! I thought we agreed not to tell anyone!” Sirius grinned.

What made Sirius go along with the lie, Remus would never know. All he knew, is that he fucked up, and Sirius was helping him.

At that comment, time started back completely, and Remus was mortified to see people exchanging money.

People had actually bet real money on Remus and Sirius dating. Remus couldn’t believe it.

He himself knew he has a crush on his best friend, but he never expected others to know that. Was it obvious? Did Sirius know? Is that why Sirius was going along with the lie?

Remus regretted his words as soon as he said them, and wanted the floor to eat him up alive. He had a crush on Sirius since 3rd year, but he convinced himself he got over it. He was wrong. He was not over it. Over him. Over his best friend.

“Alright, come on, darling.” Sirius grabbed Remus’ hand and dragged him up to their dorm room. Remus tried not to gasp as Sirius’ warm fingers wrapped around his wrist.

Once the door closed behind them, Sirius turned to face Remus, a smirk playing on his lips.

“When did you decide we were dating?” Sirius asked, now fully grinning.

“When that Ben Copper guy wouldn’t leave me alone.” Remus huffed. He then realised him and Sirius were still holding hands, and he quickly let go. Sirius blushed, but came back to his senses pretty quickly.

“I always told you he was a git. What was he doing? Pressuring you? Threatening you?”

“Merlin, no.” Remus shook his head. “He was just asking why I broke up with him. And I couldn’t exactly tell him it’s because I become a wolf ever month.”

Sirius nodded slowly. An awkward silence fell between the two friends, which was quite strange. They never had trouble speaking with other. Remus broke the silence.

“Did you see all those people exchanging money?” He asked.

“Yeah. That was weird.” Sirius agreed. Silence again. Remus once again, broke it.

“Do you want to go down and tell everyone we’re not together?” He asked.

“No!” Sirius almost shouted. Remus put his hands up in surrender. Sirius recovered, and said, “I mean, no, I don’t think we should. At least not until Copper stops bothering you.”

Remus smiled. He quickly realised he was quite involuntary staring at Sirius and smiling, so he turned his smile into a smirk and started walking over to his bed saying,

“No, that’s not the reason. You’re just madly in love with me.” He joked.

Sirius grinned back.

“Oh, but how could I not be? Remus John Lupin, the Casanova of Gryffindor tower.”

Remus turned back to face Sirius and winked. And Sirius almost melted right down there on the floor. He blushed profusely and Remus tried not to enjoy that too much. He turned back to his bed, and grabbed a chocolate bar from the stack he had on his bedside table.

“Want some?” Remus asked. It had become a joke with the Marauders that Remus would ask if they want to share, the others would say yes, and then just completely ignore the chocolate.

Sirius smiled. “Sure!” And he actually grabbed a piece and ate it.

Remus gasped dramatically. “Excuse me?”

Sirius smirked. “Well, I mean, since we’re dating now, you would want to share with your boyfriend, wouldn’t you?”

Remus groaned. “Piss off.” But he couldn’t keep from smiling. Then he added, “And don’t take my chocolate.”

The moment Sirius grinned his Sirius Black grin, Remus knew, he was in for a long ride.
