they'll be just fine

Euphemia potter was not one to cry in front of her family.

she didnt cry in front of james the first time he broke his arm, even though she was so worried about him.

she didnt cry when her husband got diagnosed as terminally ill, sure she cried late at night after he was asleep. but never in front of her family.

she had to keep strong for them.

so when two young boys showed up in the middle of one peaceful tuesday afternoon, bloody and unconscious, she didnt cry.

"oh my word."

she rushed to their sides along with her son, who was crying.

he had tears rolling down his soft  little cheeks, fogging up his wire rimmed glasses.

"james honey i need you to go get my wand from the kitchen table. can you do that for me? she kept her voice soft and quiet even though she was close to sobbing her eyes out.

he nodded and ran his hands through his curly locks before running off to the kitchen.

"effie dear? what happened to them?"

she turned to her husband who's eyes were red and brimming with unshed tears.

she sighed in frustration. who would do such a thing to such young boys? to anyone?"

"i dont know monty but the signs are looking painfully close t-to the cruciatus curse."

she barely even whispered the last two words, because they couldnt be true. who would do that to these lovely precious little boys?

she heard a sharp intake of breath from her husband and quickly blinked away tears as her son came rushing in with her wand in tow.

he handed it to her and she quickly got to work,

a diagnostic charm first.

the smaller one, regulus she assumes, looks a lot worse so she begins with him.

she casts the spell and nearly stumbles backwards at the results.

no it couldnt be.

no one would do that.

would they?

her son seemed to notice her shock,

"mum? mum, what is it? whats wrong with him? mum?"

she looks up at his pleading chocolate brown eyes and takes a deep breath.

"nothings wrong jamie he'll be fine."

she doesnt know  if thats true or not.

one someone endures the cruciatus curse for as long as poor regulus has.. well sometimes they dont get better.

she casts the same spell on sirius and sees the damage isnt as bad as regulus.

she uses a levitating charm to lift them both to the sofas and quickly gets to work.

"monty i need a blood replenishing potion and some essence of dittany please, james dear can you grab some of the blankets and try and warm up the boys please sweetheart."

she tries to keep her voice steady for james but she can feel it shaking.

her husband rushes off to get the potions and james gets the blankets.

she goes to the boys sides and starts to cast all the spells she can remember from her healer training, if she acts quickly she can still save them.

"m-mum? will they be ok?"

she hears her son practically whisper, she hates this so much. hates that these two boys could be hurting so much, that her son has to see them like this.

"you dont need to worry my darling, they'll be fine."

her son doesnt look much more reassured,.

just then monty comes back with the potions and she gets back to work.

two hours later when she is 100 percent sure that sirius and regulus are completely stable, she sits back on the sofa rubbing her aching back.

"mum? a-are they gonna be okay?"

she turns to her son who is still intently watching the two boys, like if he looks away they might disappear.

she shifts over to sit beside her son,

"dont worry baby, they're going to be just fine."

he took a shaky breath out and repeated in a whisper,

"just fine."
