Chapter 10
CRACK
Harry let out a sigh of relief. All of the food on the table disapperated, meaning there is only about an hour and a half left. He can do this. Just a little longer, just a little more socializing…
He can’t do this. Forty five minutes into the party and he and Draco are completely surrounded by women and men offering gifts to betroth them. At one point Harry is pretty certain he saw Draco receive a proposal from a woman that looked to be in her late 60’s.
“Please heir Tristis’ I know I’m not one of the sacred 28 but my family are all pure bloods!” A girl about 13 begged as she offered him a necklace with an eagle pendant. “I’m really sorry but I can’t, that’s our fathers decision’s.” Harry said anxiously.
That seemed to work. Everybody left with a groan and finally gave Harry and Draco some room to breathe. Draco moved closer to Harry with a sigh of relief. He looked pale and was sweating excessively.
“Hopefully they’ll stay away now. That was terrible.” He whined. Harry rolled his eyes teasingly but couldn’t help but nod in agreement. Draco was usually better with social interaction. He seemed to thrive under the attention, but even he doesn’t like to be surrounded by dozens of people asking to marry him. He doesn’t like the idea of a loveless marriage.
A beautiful girl with white and purple hair reminiscent of hyacinth flowers approached them. “Do you know her?” Harry asked, tilting his head in acknowledgment toward the girl. Draco turned to look where he was signaling. “Oh! That’s my dear cousin Luna lovegood I believe. Our great grandparents on our fathers side are siblings. Although, mine married a Veela and hers married a flower nymph as far as I am aware.” He said, as if he wouldn’t know. The boy memorized his whole family tree hundreds of years back.
“Yes I am. Lovely to meet you cousin Draco.” Luna greeted in an airy voice. Her wavy hair bounced as she curtsied to them. She appeared to be about a year younger. They bowed at the waist, a hand in a fist behind their back and a hand in a fist on their chest.
“Your thestrals are really pretty. They don’t like the unicorns though.” Luna says. She leans in and puts a hand beside her mouth “don’t tell the unicorns but they’re a bit full of themselves. The thestrals think it’s annoying.” Harry couldn’t help but laugh. He had a feeling the thestrals weren’t a big fan of the wild unicorn herd but to have this random girl confirm it like she actually had a conversation with them was incredibly amusing.
“You know, I can definitely see that Luna. It’s in the way they swish their mane like they have better places to be.” He snickers. She nodded excitedly “Yes! The unicorns are very aware that they’re some of the most beautiful creatures on earth. Although beauty is subjective and then again everything comes at a price.” She said solemnly. “Yes, we’ve seen a fair share of poachers lurking around our cathedral lately. We’re thinking of building the unicorns their own pasture at this point. We might as well, as they’re basically ours at this point.”
It was the unicorn blood. His Father said that Dark wizards have been in short supply of it for their potions lately. Harry can understand using dark magic but some spells and potions really shouldn’t be messed around with. Unicorns are becoming more and more endangered lately. He’ll have to speak to his daddy about it later.
“Hello, hope you don’t mind if I join you guys. The other kids here are being boring. All they want to talk about is how pure their blood lines are and who they are going to marry.” A boy grumbled as he approached them.
Harry turned around and saw it was the boy from the table. Blaise if he is recalling correctly. “Oh! No you’re perfectly fine. We were just talking about our unicorn poacher issue and what we should do about it. I think I should get a pasture built and warded.” Harry said.
Blaise’s eyes widened excitedly. “You have unicorns!? Can I see? I’ve never seen one in person before.” Harry smiled. “Sure, but I don’t know if they’re out and about right now. They are a bit wild, you see. We have thestrals too but I’m sure you know that already, as we’re very famous for it.” Harry started walking towards the door that leads out to the thestral pastures and the forest where the unicorns wander.
