School life

Sirius was dreading the end of the day. He had a detention like normal but he didn't want his mother to know. God forbid she finds out why he got it. She would kill him. Literally.

He and Remus snuck off during class. It wasn't a problem really they just both got bored and didn't want to go back to class. So as teenagers do, they sniped the rest. They were both in year 9 and knew almost every hiding place in the school. Even the secret tunnels the teachers insisted weren't there.

Remus came out of maths and Sirius came out of geography. They say each other on the corridors and just stayed together they were gunna get James but their parents said that they would like them to stay in class so they left him. Sirius would never ever go against Effie.

So here they were. At the end of the day both in detention after being caught snoging under the stairs. Honestly, Sirius has started getting detention deliberately, just so he wouldn't have to go home. It was a bit extreme yes but they wouldn't let him go to clubs. Technically he had to do the detention.

It was their favourite teacher sitting in today. They were they with one other kid. It's a Friday so most kids just skip the detention anways letting it run to Monday. Remus sat neat the back as sirius walked up to the teacher.

"Mr Black, we need a word," she said before Sirius could even say anything. He looked down and nodded his head letting her lead him out the near empty classroom.

"Mr Black-"

"Please miss, please don't call me that," his voice was small and timid something it often wasn't.

"Sirius, at this rate there going to make you move schools why are you so keen on getting into trouble?" Her voice raised slightly and sirius twitched his head staying down and his shoulders tenseing.

"You only live once right?" His voice came out weak and his eyes clouded over. He never was good at hiding his emotions.

"Qe had to call home today telling them why you had a detention," sirius froze. He cut her off mid sentence.

"You what," his voice louder now. Fear seeping into the corners of his words.

"It's normal to do that Sirius you of all people would know, when you are on report-"

"NO Miss you don't.... you don't get what you've told them. No no no. Minnie there gunna kill me,"

"I'm sure it will be fine now go sit down I need a talk with Mr Lupin,"

Sirius walked in as remus walked out. Anxiety clawing at his chest. He sat down his knee bouncing up and down. He had to tell James. He pulled out his phone quickly getting sending James a short text.

Padfoot

Oi prongsie you still have my spare bag o' clothes
Right?

Prongs

Yeah why u good

Padfoot

Yeah yeah fine might just stay at yours tonight

He put his phone away as the teacher walked back in Remus quick on her tail. She stood up at front and dismissed them all. She held out her hands waiting for the paper they were supposed to write. Sirius and Remus walked up together Remus handing in a full one sirius handing in a blank one. He was distant and withdrawn nerves getting worse by the second.

"Sirius where is your work for the third time?!"

"Huh? Oh um I didn't do it sorry,"

"Just leave you will be doing it tomorrow," her voice left no room for argument.

Sirius left the classroom making his way to the school exit. He walked out the doors into the car park going to sit and text James to pick him up. However instead he was greeted by his mother. She pulled him by the ear into her car and started to drive off. This was one of the worst parts. The silence. They were known their way somewhere else. Not to the house. Shit. It was her work.

"No mother I'm sorry please don't I'm-"

"Shut up sirius. I'm am not your mother," her voice was cold and cruel. Sirius started to panic.

"But it I please not there I-"

"Sirius I told you to be quiet," she didn't raise her voice but it still sent shivers down his spine. He thinks silently. How can he get out of this. Maybe he could run when she opens the door. He reminds himself what happened last time he tried that. Not worth it he thinks.

The car stops.

He gets pulled out the car by his wrist, dragged along by his mother. She worked in a church. They entered the building going downstairs into a small room no one really knew was there. It was dark and cold blood smears still on the walls. Sirius tried not to think about the fact that it might well be his. Or Regulus's.

"Repent," her voice cut through the thick silence

Sirius swallowed. He wouldn't. He refused to let them control him. "No,"

Walburga spoke again. Her voice firmer than before,"Repent."

Sirius stayed where he was. Head held high as he swallowed down his fear. "No," his voice came out far more confident than he was. Something he was glad about.

"Then face the consequences," she pushed him down to the floor and lifted her foot smashing it down on his ribs. Sirius stayed silent. She lifted her foot again as sirius tried to scramble away her hand swooping down and grabbing him by his hair. A muffled whimper leaves him mouth. She pulls him up by the ends of his hair. She stands back up to her full hight letting go of him. She quickly slaps her hand across his face.

"I will not have a fag for a son," she spits

She took something out her pocket. A lighter. Sirius scrambled back. If there was one thing that he truly hated it was bring burned.

He didn't give in.
