Magic Training

Task number two, Magic training with Rimbaud.

This was a good time to get to know Verlaine’s husband better. The man was going to act as Dazai’s father for this entire year after all. He might as well learn to get along with him. And Dazai was quite eager to find out how No Longer Human and magic would work together if he was going to be honest.

And so, they all stood there by the kitchen island, Dazai, Rimbaud, and Chuuya (unfortunately). Some looking more eager than another.  A big contrast when looking at the two children. Not just in height but expression. One of them looking as eager as ever, the other wearing a never faltering scowl on his lips, his arms securely and tightly crossed.

“So, boys... magic!... Super fun, right?” Rimbaud said in an unsure tone, avoiding eye contact, fiddling with his scarf. It was more like he was trying to convince himself rather than Dazai and Chuuya.

“Whatever.” The gremlin of the group grunted. “We already know what we’re going to do.” He barked.

“We do?”

“You do?”

Two pair of eyes fasten at Chuuya. Staring at him. One of the pairs a little creepier than the other.

Dazai studied Chuuya big eyes. The dark glassy lifeless beads almost drilling holes into the shorter boy. Can this kid get even more creepy?... Chuuya wondered, his eyes narrowing. Honestly what was his deal? He was such an edge lord, the bandages don’t make you look cool, they make you stink!

“Yes, we do. We’re going to test out how his ability will affect magic. And my animagus spell.” Chuuya grunted as elaborated. “You have some kinda ability that stops other abilities, right?” His eyes snapped to the taller kid beside him, narrowing.

Nullification.” Dazai sighed, looking at Chuuya like he was an idiot. It just pissed the shorter boy off.

“Ah well, then I uh, guess I’ll skip the introduction speech I had prepared…” Rimbaud mumbled from the other side of the kitchen island, putting away some papers. Dazai was almost starting to feel bad for the man. “Since Dazai doesn’t have a wand yet, what we’ll do today is just, make sure that you in dog form can be touched by Dazai, be picked up and such. If not, we’ll find a solution.”

“Ooh, this seems fun! Right, Chuu-yaaaa?” Dazai looked over at the named boy, leaning his upper body forward, Glancing at Chuuya with a slight grin.

“Yes very funny.. now Chuuya, go on. Transform, so we can get this over with..” Rimbaud interrupted, fiddling with his hands. “Is the heat really on in this room? It’s so awfully chilly..”

Chuuya Scowled, teeth gritted hard against each other, he really looked like an angry growling dog, Dazai found it extremely humorous. “Whatever.” He spat, and the morphing began, him shrinking and his human features slowly disappearing and being replaced with the ones of a papillion.

“You know Chuuya, I think it’d have been way funnier if you were to transform into a chihuahua. It fits your name really well, and your personality.” Dazai said, whispering that last part as he crouched down to the dog. Rimbaud didn’t seem to notice or pay any mind to the teasing; he was busy hugging himself and making small remarks about how cold the heated room – walls covered in windows and not a curtain to keep out the warmth of the sunlight be seen – in July was.

The reaction Dazai got was golden, at least to him, the canines showing and lip curling up, the silent but just hearable growling. And he just couldn’t be taken seriously, not looking like that. “Welp, time to do this.” Dazai’s hands approached Chuuya, they touched the fur, nothing happened. Dazai lifted the dog up “Hey this is going pretty nice, I honestly didn-”

A light filled the room and there was a loud thud. When the brightness has dimmed out two children were on the floor on top of one another.

“Never mind” Dazai sighed, laying straight across on top of the ginger.

“Get off of me!!” Chuuya yelled, kicking his feet.

“I’m on it, I’m on it! Jeeze.” The brunette huffed, pushing himself off the angered boy and standing up.

“Oh well, I guess we’ll have to find another way for this to work..” Rimbaud chimed in, walking up to Chuuya to help him up, and brush off non-existent dust off of the boy. “Do you think gloves would work, Dazai?” He glanced at the dark-haired boy.

“Mmmhh, probably, my ability only works on skin-to-skin contact.” Dazai says with one of those proud smiles, like he’s just came up a way to save humanity.

Rimbaud gave the boy a quick nod and turned to his brother-in-law (more of a son). “Chuuya, could you lend out your gloves for Dazai?” Seeing the look of disproval on the boy’s face, he added a quick “Just this once.” And was pleased when he saw the ginger reluctantly slip off his gloves and slowly shove them in his hands. “Thank you.”

Dazai liked seeing it play out, he enjoyed seeing someone’s pride be broken down. Now, especially Chuuya’s. He was so proud of himself and was so stubborn, it was hilarious to see him give up like that. A tiny smile was plastered on Dazai’s face as Rimbaud handed Dazai those gloves. “Thank you, sir.”

“Call me Arthur, it’s best to get the act together as soon as possible. We don’t want any slip ups when you’re away.” Rimbaud replied, not even looking at Dazai. He felt a little offended, it was like a rejection. “Now, Chuuya, transform again.” He gave Chuuya’s shoulder a quick pat, getting only a snort in return. It made Dazai a little mad. Chuuya was getting all this affectionate treatment, yet he seemed so annoyed and unpleased about it, so ungrateful.

The transformation started again, and in a few second there was a ginger papillion on the floor where Chuuya had once stood. Dazai slipped on the gloves, making sure to not once break eye contact with Chuuya as he did so. He wanted to rub the fact that he had one of his prized possessions in the shorter boy’s face.

“Let’s try this again!” Dazai squatted down again, his hands came closer, they gripped the dog, he lifted it up. Ah he looked so mad. Nothing happened, a few seconds passed; nothing. The gloves seemed to work. “Well, this went smooth!” The brunette said, holding the dog close to himself.

“Yes, good to know that this problem is solved. Very well, this is enough training for today… I’m going to brew some tea, it might make me feel a bit warmer..” Rimbaud turned to the kitchen counter and reached for the kettle. The moment he had dismissed them Chuuya kicked himself out of Dazai’s grip, hopped onto the floor and then magically a human stood there again.

“My gloves.” He held out a hand. Glaring at the taller boy.

“Calm down, jeeze.” Dazai rolled his eyes, taking off the black gloves and pushing them into the gremlin’s hands. “Happy?”

His response was a snort. Rich French brat, Dazai frowned as the ginger turned on his heel and stormed off. And he was left in the room, the only sound being the quiet shivering noises from Rimbaud.

“I’ll be looking forward to the next lesson with you, Arthur!” Dazai said, a wide smile on his face as he followed after Chuuya out of the room. And he was met with a quiet “Ah yes, next lesson-.” Not really sounding as if it was directed towards him, more like a reminder for the man himself.

Were the French people just in a bad mood today or is his entire say here going to be like this? In any case he had already decided to even worsen Chuuya’s bad evening mood so he supposed it didn’t really matter.
