How about a ball?
The entire extended group of marauders are sitting together in the Gryffindor common room. It is the beginning of their last year at Hogwarts and they want to spend as much time together as possible while they still can.
Remus is sitting on the sofa across from the fireplace, head in a new book with Sirius snuggled in his side reading over his shoulder. They always sat close and cuddled up with each other, no one else was allowed that close to either of them, they had a sort of understanding in their friendship that no one else could understand. Kind of like the bond Sirius has with James but still so very different.
Peter somehow managed to drag Mary into a game of chess. She must've been really bored, or her competitive side got the best of her for a moment. Marlene was on the floor next to the chess table watching them, laughing at every move Mary makes because they all break some type of rule since Mary has no idea how to play chess.
Lily sits on one of the armchairs surrounding the common room table, studying for one of her last tests and James is sitting in the armchair on the other side of the table, admiring his girlfriend.
"I can't do this anymore, you win" Mary sighed and got up from the chess table.
"Booriiiing" Marlene groaned, getting up after Mary to sit closer to the rest of the group
Mary took a seat on the sofa, making sure to put a bit of space between her and Remus and Sirius, so as to not disturb them. Marlene decided to lay down on the table in the middle of everyone.
"Shouldn't we do something big and special this year? I mean it's out last year at Hogwarts and all we've got planned so far is studying. I wanna do something memorable" She said after a moment of silence.
"You mean like a big final prank?" James asked through a yawn. They were all tired and the rest of the gryffindors had already gone to their dorms to get some sleep.
"NO. Absolutely not a prank, you've done enough of those" Lily said, closing the thick book in her lap.
"What other big special things are there?" Peter said, finally being done cleaning up the chess game.
Sirius started giggling at his words. He slightly lifted his head to face his friends "My di-"
"No." Remus interrupted quickly. This made Sirius turn his attention back to Remus and his book.
"How about a ball?" Mary suggested excitedly, choosing to ignore Sirius' immature comment.
“Yeah, a ball could be fun.” Lily agreed. James nodded along to the suggestion as well. “I'll take the idea to Dumbledore tomorrow.”
“Great!” Mary squeaked, now very happy.
After soaking up the silence for a few minutes, people started to head towards the dorms, one by one.

Remus is sitting in the common room with James, Sirius and Peter, all of them finishing the last details on an essay, when Lily walks in and slumps down in front of them.
“I just talked to Dumbledore and he thinks that the ball is a great idea!” She exclaimed, getting the boys’ attention.
"You guys were serious about that?" Remus groans. He was hoping it was just a joke made in the tired state that everyone was in yesterday.
“Of course we were serious about it.” Lily giggles “It's going to be so much fun. We'll start off with a bit of slow dancing and mingling to start everything off and then it will be just like a huge party in fancy clothing.” She locks eyes with Remus. “You’ll be fine.” She pats his knee lightly.
They get into mindless conversation about the school work they have left and the rest of the day goes a lot like all the previous evenings that week, in the common room with everyone gathered in a small circle. Remus is not very focused about his schoolwork anymore though. All he can think about is that dance, which he very much does not want to attend.
