Admirer

Remus watched as Sirius walked out of the waves. It was really unfair how he could look like a model all the time, his hair and swim trunks dripping and heavy, clinging to his form. As he arrived at the shore he shook out his hair like a dog. Anyone else would look ridiculous, Remus thought, but Sirius looked even better.

They had invited Harry’s friends to come to France with them for a week. They all deserved a vacation after everything. Most of all they deserved to just be kids for once. France had been Sirius’s idea, who had wanted to show them all where he’d spent so much time when he was younger; some of the only good memories from his early childhood had happened in France. They also thought that visiting places Sirius used to spend time at might help him with getting some of the memories back Azkaban had taken from him. So far it was a slow process, though not completely in vain it seemed.

Sirius eyes found Remus who was sitting further up on the beach in the shade of a few rocks and walked over to him. Not looking awkward at all walking through the sand, of course. Sirius wasn't capable of looking awkward.

“I think you might have a secret admirer,” Remus said to him as he approached.

Sirius immediately turned around to scan the other people on the beach. Apart from the teenagers throwing themselves in the waves, there was only one older couple and a small family further down. Only Hermione was stood a little closer to the shore, looking right at them.

“What, Hermione?”

Remus breathed in. “No, not Hermione.”

Sirius took another second. “No,” he said, drawing the word out as it dawned on him, his eyes falling on Harry who very pointedly was not looking at them. When he turned back to Remus he was smirking in a way one might mistake for hopeful. Remus knew better. “You think?”

“I think it’s possible that he might just fancy you a tiny bit,” he worded carefully so as to not boost his ego too much.

“What makes you think that?”

“Well, he’s been watching you a lot when he thinks no one can see,” he started. “And he seems uncharacteristically sheepish around you lately, haven’t you noticed? He almost blushed when you praised him for a good Quidditch game yesterday.”

Sirius listened with his head tilted, considering Remus’s arguments. Apparently he concluded that Remus was right because a bright grin erupted on his face.

“Ha!” he exclaimed. “Well, why wouldn’t he? I mean look at me, Moony.”

He pointed to the general area of his body to make his point. Naturally he looked gorgeous, water still running down his skin and making the tattoos stand out even more. His hair was already starting to dry in the warm sun, forming soft waves to frame his face. He’d gained more weight since Azkaban again, still looking lean but no longer skinny.

Remus completely understood the argument.

He couldn’t tell him that, of course. He’d already boosted his ego way too much.

“Alright, alright, don’t let it get to your head. Just be gentle with him when you let him down.”

Though Sirius’s smile didn’t dim as he made to sit down on the blanket next to him, and Remus knew he would never live this down.

“You’re dripping everywhere,” he chastised him for good measure and to get him off his high horse.

“Oh, don’t nag me you old hag.”

Remus looked away to hide his smile and shoved his lover off the blanket, only hearing an “Oi!” as he fell.
