The day was a very cold one outside. It was said on the wireless it could get to 32 C. That is why Lily Evans was making her way to the library with her bag swung over her shoulder instead of going outside to the courtyard. "Hey, Remus" she called out to a boy with sandy brown hair who was a little taller than her.
His nose was stuck in a book and he was walking with a crutch in his right hand. The book was stuck between his hand and chest. Lily noticed that his left arm was in a sling. She ran to catch up with him. "Hey, Lily," Remus said as she slowed to a pace beside him.
Lily had a smile on her face because she was in a very good mood that afternoon. James Potter hadn't bothered her once that. "Where are your friends and what happened to you?" Lily asked.
Remus walked into the library carefully putting his book down. He didn't feel like talking to Lily about what happened not yet anyway. "Could you get my bag for me?" asked Remus not answering her.
"Sure" she replied taking it then sat it down. "You still have not answered my question."
He sat down in the chair after pulling it out. Lily sank into a chair as well. Remus pulled out his Defense the Dark Arts homework and his book as well. He did not answer until he started to write. "James and Sirius were headed to lunch when I fell down. Peter was with me. He was walking slowly and I wasn't watching where I was going. Madam Pomfey says I will be alright" Remus said.
Lily gave him a curious look. She knew he had to be lying on one of those things. "Right. Like I am supposed to believe that, Remus. Come on, we have known each other for five years now" said Lily.
She hoped that Remus would be truthful with her and not lie. lily thought that they were good friends, but she guessed not. Remus hung his head down. He knew it was a terrible lie, but he was never good at lying in the first place. "Fine, I will tell you as long as you tell no one. Not even Severus" Remus said.
Severus already knew his secret, but it was to make sure that Lily wouldn't say a word to anyone. Remus knew that she wouldn't, but just to be on the safe side he said that. The only reason Severus knew was because of a prank Sirius played on him. Lily was about to get some answers and she wasn't sure she wanted them. "I promise, Remus," said Lily writing her charms paper.
Remus stared down at his paper as he spoke. "I am a werewolf."
He did not look up from his paper. It was best to keep working which he did. Lily let out a gasp. She hoped that Severus was wrong, but she guessed he wasn't. Sweet kind Remus a werewolf. Lily made up her mind. It did not change a thing between them. "Remus, look at me," she said.
Remus looked up with a few tears running down his cheeks. "I understand if you don't want to be my friend anymore," said Remus.
Lily wondered why Remus would think that. They had always been great friends and nothing was going to change that. "Why would you think that, Remus?" She asked in a curious voice.
Lily was confused now. "Because I am a monster," said Remus quietly.
Lily gave him a dirty look. How dare Remus think like that. It was awful. He was a good person. "Remus, I am your friend and nothing will change that. I like you a lot. You are a very good person, Remus unlike your friends" said Lily.
Remus wiped the tears away while laughing at that last bit. "Thanks, Lily," he said.
Lily leaned in to give him a hug as they heard two people fighting. "I can't believe you, Regulus. Why would you even think of listening to Mum and Dad?" Sirius asked with his wand drawn.
Lily and Remus stood up. They left their stuff and went over to see if they could help at all. Severus was standing in the corner laughing a little. It stung to see someone else go through that but, he was just glad it wasn't him this time. Lily went to stand next to Severus as Regulus shouted back. "Because my big brother hates me. He would rather hang with his other brothers."
Sirius took a few steps back. That had stung a lot. James looked between the two of them. He really wasn't sure what to do, but knew they needed to get out of there. "We should go, Sirius. We are making a scene" said James.
Sirius hexed Regulus as he walked away. He didn't care for his brother at all now. Regulus had made his bed and chose to lie in it. If he was going to listen to his parents then Sirius was done with him. Lily ran to help him up. "You ok?" She asked.
Regulus took her hand as Remus wobbled over to help as did Severus. "Yes, nothing I can't handle" Regulus stated.
"Well, Remus and I were studying if you wanted to come," said Lily with a smile on her face.
Remus stood there in shock. He snapped out of it. "Sorry about that," Remus said quietly. Severus wanted to puke. Remus never said that after his friends bullied him. "I am sorry as well Severus."
Severus walked over to the table. "Whatever" he replied.
Lily gave Remus a look that said 'It will be ok. Severus is having a bad day I guess.' Regulus walked over to the table as well.
