Chapter 1

"Miss Black, maybe we should get you some robes," Kate suggested.

"Fine," I whined as we paid for my books. I didn't want to leave the bookstore yet but we made our way to the robes shop. There were two boys already there. One boy was blonde and the other had brown hair and a lightning bolt scar. Harry Potter. I grinned. Not many know that The Dark Lord had two partners. With them, he had me. My Dad is the only one of my three Fathers still alive. Many think The Dark Lord died because of Harry Potter but the Potters were spies for him. Dumbledore killed the Potters and my Father showed up to protect them just in time to save little Harry. But, Dumbledore killed my Father. According to my Dad, when my Father was hit with the Killing Curse, a part of his soul latched onto Harry and left him with his scar. My Dad had always been good friends with the Potters. He was friends with many different generations of Potter. It's about time I continued that tradition. Harry will find out the truth about what happened eventually. "Hi." The blonde boy was startled and fell out of the chair.

"Ahh!" The boy screamed.

"Sorry," I said with an apologetic look on my face. "I didn't mean to startle you. I'm Cassie. Cassiopeia Black."

"Black?" A woman with blonde and black hair asked.

"Yes," I said and my hair turned bright blue. I scowled and concentrated and my hair turned back to black and shortened to match Harry's style and length. I smiled at the woman. "My Father was Regulus Black." I frowned a little before focusing back on the blonde boy. "I really am sorry."

"It's fine," he said. "I'm Draco Malfoy."

"Narcissa Malfoy and this is my husband, Lucius," the woman said as she gestured to a blonde man who just entered the store.

"I'm Harry Potter," Harry said and Draco gaped.

"Really?"

"Yes," Harry said and it was clear he was uncomfortable.

"I know. From what my Dad tells me, your Father and he were good friends," I said.

"Regulus wasn't friends with James Potter," Narcissa said.

"No but he's not my only Father," I said. "My Dad is like me. When my Father wanted an heir, he used his ability to change so he could carry and give birth to me. My Dad was his friend."

"You are Pureblood, aren't you?" Lucius asked with a sneer.

"Actually, there's no way of knowing," a brunette girl with dark skin said as she walked over to us. "Hi, I'm Hermione Granger."

"What do you mean there's no way of knowing?" Lucius said with a scowl on his face.

"From what I read, everyone and everything has Magic, even Muggles. However, Muggles and Squibs don't have enough Magic to be able to use it. But, every time a person has a child, that child inherits a percentage of Magic from each parent. If they inherit enough Magic from each parent, even if both parents are Muggles, the child has Magic. However, if they don't, even if both parents are Magical, the child will not have Magic. That's why Squibs and Muggleborns exist. Therefore, without knowing what percentage of Magic is required to be classed as Pureblood and without knowing how to find out such a thing about yourself, there is no way to know what Blood Status a Magical child is. Especially for those like me who are adopted."

"How do you know you were adopted?" Harry asked.

"Everyone on both sides of my family tree as far back as I can trace it is white so it's kind of obvious," she said. "And my Muggle adoptive parents told me I was adopted when the beat me for the first time at my first display of accidental Magic." Hermione shrugged. Narcissa looked horrified and so did Draco but Harry looked like he understood.

"I get that," he said. "My Muggle Aunt, Uncle and Cousin hate Magic. Every time I had a display of accidental Magic or even just said the word Magic they beat me. At least, I still have my cupboard."

"Cupboard?" I asked.

"Yeah," he said. "The cupboard under the stairs. It's my room. My Hogwarts letters were even addressed there. Before Hagrid came to pick me up at least."

"Hagrid!" Narcissa exclaimed and started going on about how a proper Professor should have brought him to Diagon instead like with all of the other Muggle-raised children. Hermione mentioned that Professor McGonagall was the one who brought her and she was just watching another student right now because he threw up after the carts in Gringotts. It set Narcissa off again when Harry mentioned Hagrid got sick too so he left Harry here while he went to the Leaky Cauldron to get a drink to settle his stomach.

"Great, Dumbledore entrusted a student with the Groundskeeper who's an alcoholic," I said.

"Hey!" Harry said. "Hagrid got me out of the Dursleys today and he said Dumbledore was the greatest Headmaster Hogwarts has ever seen." All three Malfoys and Hermione and I snorted at that.

"Harry, he may have said that but Dumbledore does the letters for the students. You said yours was addressed to the cupboard under the stairs so he knew you were there and you still have to go back to the Dursleys. He doesn't care about your safety," I said.

"Well, after we left the house, the letters did keep coming and they all had the new place and room I was in so he had to have known where I was somehow," Harry said.

"Back to the topic at hand," Lucius said. "Miss Granger, are you saying that those who could be believed to be Muggleborn or Half-Blood or Pureblood may actually have a different Blood Status and Magical ability level?"

"Yes, Sir," she said.

"Well, that would explain Lily Evans' Magical prowess, Lucius," Narcissa said. "She was powerful enough that The Dark Lord made an exception to his Mudblood rule," Narcissa whispered the last sentence to him but my God abilities I inherited from my Dad allowed me to pick up on it.

"I believe we will have to look into this further, Miss Granger," Lucius said. "As thanks for bringing this to our attention, when we find a way to test Blood Status, we will let you in on it to test yours." Hermione grinned at his words.

"Thank you, Sir," she said. Professor McGonagall came in with the other student and the shop owner. Apparently, they had been talking while the boy tried to settle his stomach.

...

Everyone waited for Lucius to explain the pins. He had already asked everyone to introduce themselves. Hermione, Draco, Lucius, Narcissa, Harry (who I had picked up from the Dursleys with Kate and we'll all be staying here before going to Hogwarts tomorrow), Kate and I were all here. A few people who will be in our year at Hogwarts were here with their parents and siblings. There is Pansy, Penelope and Peter Parkinson, Daphne, Astoria, Gemma and Tyson Greengrass, Theo and Henric Nott, Blaise and Anathema Zabini, Vincent, Katherine and Vincent Crabbe (apparently, the Father and Son had the same first name), Gregory, Lila and John Goyle, Augusta and Neville Longbottom (Augusta is Neville's Grandmother and Neville seemed displeased at being here and full of nerves), Tracey, Taylor and Michael Davis, Millicent, James and Violetta Bulstrode, Hannah and Michelle Abbott and Susan and Amelia Bones (apparently, Amelia is Susan's Aunt). There was also a set of ginger identical twin boys with a younger boy and girl who were also gingers. The younger siblings were called Ron (who will be in my year) and Ginny (who will be in the year below) and they didn't seem happy to be here. The twins are their brothers (who will be in their third year) and are called Fred and George Weasley. There was a black boy called Lee Jordan with them too and he is the twins' friend and in the same year as them. The only other people here were Severus Snape, Head of Slytherin House and Potions Professor at Hogwarts and Cassiopeia, Cygnus and Lucretia Black and they were all standing next to Lucius and Narcissa. "Get on with it, Lucius," John Goyle said.

"Yes, please do," Gemma Greengrass agreed.

"Well, after Hermione's revelation in Diagon a few weeks ago, Severus, Narcissa and I started researching a way to prove Blood Purity," Lucius said. "I know a few of you are here only because you're curious about your own Blood Status, others because you want to prove that what we all thought about Blood Purity is wrong and some of you are here just because. As you can see," he said as he gestured to himself, Professor Snape and Narcissa. "Narcissa, Severus and I have already tested the pins. We all got a green colour. This means the three of us are Purebloods. As everyone is aware, Severus' Father was a Muggle. Therefore, if we go by what we already believed, he would be a Half-Blood. However, this test has proven that wrong and Hermione's theory correct. We will be keeping a list of the person and their result if you decide to take the test. You don't have to wear the pins if you don't want to once the test is over but, for research, we will be recording the results and you will be doing a Heritage Test to ensure the details you give are accurate as the pin will determine your Blood Purity so, if someone using Polyjuice did it, it wouldn't be the person they were pretending to be's Blood Status. However, this won't be done today as you weren't told how you'd be tested beforehand and I know everyone here."

"Which colours mean what?" Hermione asked.

"Yellow means Muggle," Professor Snape said. "No one here will get yellow because you can all see the Wizarding World. Orange means Squib. The only people here who haven't got their letter are Miss Greengrass and Miss Weasley and, given their ages, they would already know if that was the case. If you have 10 to 19% Magical ability, you are a Muggle. If you have 20 to 29% Magical ability, you are a Squib. It is believed, that Muggles can have Squib children who are then put in places like Mental Institutions because they can see the Magical World but they don't have any sort of proof that it is real. If you have at least one Magical parent, from our testing we can conclude you will inherit at least 20% Magical ability. If this wasn't the case, Squib children wouldn't've been able to see the Wizarding World as they would've actually been Muggles and this would've raised red flags in the past."

"What about Mudbloods?" Henric Nott asked.

"Muggleborns have red pins," Lucius said as he eyed Amelia Bones. "They have 30 to 49% Magical ability. Purple pins are for Half-Bloods and they have 50 to 69% Magical ability. Purebloods have green pins and 70 to 89% Magical ability... Then, those with Creature Heritage, for example, Veela, have 90 to 99% Magical ability and their pins are black... We have concluded that it is impossible to have 100% Purity and still be classed as a Human or even a Magical Creature that we are currently aware of but their pin would be white. If you do this test, you may be pleased or displeased with the results. Regardless of what you believe your Blood Status to be, this test is 100% accurate and your result may not be what you are expecting. If you are not willing to accept your result, regardless of what it may be, please do not take this test and you can leave now. The same applies to if you are not willing for us to record your results." No one left.
